>GoldenEye was far superior to any FPS the PC had back in 1997.
oh god this is funny, you really think Goldeneye was anywhere near as good as Unreal/Quake1/2?

Unreal was released in 1998, fool.As for Quake 1 & 2, they both paled in comparison to GoldenEye, IMO.
It´s not a matter of higher standards,it was a matter of competition on the platform,on the PC there were plenty of top quality FPS´s by that time, but on consoles, none really,so it´s only natural. If instead of being a N64 only title G64 was on the PC,the reception wouldn´t be as vibrant as it was tbh, because on that platform the competition was way fiercer than on the N64(or any console).
Another thing that further proves the point(since you mentioned GS scores) is that, even with a 9.8 G64 didn´t win GOTY(that went to Total Anihilation) nor even the best FPS,because that went to Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2,and that one score a 8.9,so you can see the whole point I was making right there.

You've got it all wrong. GameSpot never even started handing out any console awards until 1998. Up until then, their awards were exclusively focused on PC games. In other words, GoldenEye wasn't even eligible for the GameSpot awards. If console games were eligible back in 1997, then GoldenEye would have easily won FPS of the Year, as well as facing-off with FF VII for overall GOTY.
I feel like they always confuse influence and quality in these lists.
Asteroids is ass by todays standards. It was very very very influential in both the economics and in the million games that copied it, but it's not too great now adays.

Actually, Space Invaders and Pac-Man were far more influential than Asteroids. In addition, Space Invaders and Pac-Man have also aged better as well, as they're still very much accessible to this very day. In terms of both influence and how well they've aged, it should have been Space Invaders or Pac-Man on the list instead of Asteroids. Or alternatively, it should have instead been Galaga, which is often considered the best single-screen (non-scrolling) shooter of all time, though maybe not quite as influential as Space Invaders, Asteroids, or Pac-Man.
