I didnt have any major problems, but more importanly Steam was launched 8 years ago...they had nowhere to look for inspiration.

Steam doesn't need any competition, it's been doing fine on it's own and I hope it stays that way.

I'd prefer to purchase EA's games on Steam, but I don't have a problem with them wanting to take a risk to expand their business. Origin ain't bad either, but I do treat it like a store rather than a full-service like Steam.

I hate Origin, the downloads always freeze and force me to restart for no reason while it also tends to stop working randomly or make me go offline. Steam is MUCH more well formed and easier to use and navigate.

I'd prefer to purchase EA's games on Steam, but I don't have a problem with them wanting to take a risk to expand their business. Origin ain't bad either, but I do treat it like a store rather than a full-service like Steam.

I use Origin for one thing only and that is BF3, not because I wanted Origin but because I'm forced to use it.. I wouldn't touch it otherwise.

Well apparently Origin has issues with backing up downloads from what I hear, so while my Steam works fine and never loses more then 2% of a download, Origin can get an error or go offline and I have to start ALLL over again. Its just poor design, I'm no computer expert, but you'd think they would want to prevent turning a 2 hour download into a day day session of repeatedly trying to get a game or patch to download all the way.

Plus even if they fix it all up somehow, Steam is still much more convenient, with a significantly larger library of games and better deals. I'm no Steam fanboy and I loved the concept of competition, but I guess the old adage of "EA games come with free misery" holds true for their software as well.

Yeah, that sounds crazy bad. As far as the installer goes, you can store it, but you have to selecting "store installer after download finishes" or something like that in settings. And it's in a cache folder. I downloaded Arkham City the other day, and I have the installer saved in that cache folder just in case **** happens lol. And it works.

Downloads continue from where they left off as long as it doesn't get stuck and corrupted. From my experience at least.

Fanboyism has nothing to do with not wanting another program taking up resources on your computer. Nobody wants 20 DD programs installed on their computer. The rise of a new DD service will inevitably lead to the downfall of another service. Sony is proof of that. Competition destroyed them. Nobody wants steam to go anywhere. Why should they? I don't think Steam is all the much better from my experience. I'd prefer to be done with both of them to be honest.

i know of sony woes but you said destroyed meaning they exist no more, their going through some troubles which happens, they had a good run so it was bound to happen. business is a funny thing, you can be in good shape one minute and in the slumps in a blink and vice versa. Sony isn't destroyed their just going through the motions, they can change it all around, they just have to get their sh*t together. Its hard times for most japanese businesses right now.

The problem with origin. Is that they're limiting the amount of PC sales to one specific platform.

I won't buy a plethora of other titles either.
I mean it's a cool service. But with the juggernaut of steam there really is no point to it. Except for EA to monotize their cash flow into one service.

you missed the point, steam has 8 years on Origin, 8 years to become what it is now, its only fair we see what origin does in the coming years, maybe it will do something big or maybe not. It's the same argument people use for the MMO market when talking of WoW. It doesn't matter if WoW had a headstart - if other MMOs can't stand the competition when they come out, they either fold or are forced to change their model to dock into a different market.

It's just an example, neither of them applies here considering the resources EA has. Origin will step up eventually, no doubt. However speaking of how the big players were doing in their beginning is taking things out of context.

What does that matter? Witcher 2 is $30 on Amazon, and regularly goes on sale at GoG for less. Every DD has deals - discounts are not something exclusive to steam :?

I don't think it would make sense for them to ever endorse or compliment Origin ... at all.

and we all know Origin is bad regardless, there are independant sites who do a better job of DD.

That might be my problem then. I disabled automatic updates on Skyrim because it kept messing up my mods. The offline mode flipped out when I tried to play it when my school internet servers went down.

Problem is, EA isn't exactly 'competing' with Steam - they're outright refusing to sell their games on Steam, and that's terrible for consumers.

Instead of granting us the same stock on multiple stores, forcing Steam to lower to prices to stay competitive, EA are actually limiting the options that consumers have. This wouldn't be a problem if their store was great...but it's terrible for anyone living outside of North America.

Most of their sales and some of their pre-order bonuses are US-exclusive (unlike Steam), all of their games are regionally-priced (unlike Steam, where only some games are like that), and every other online store that sells Origin keys is region-locked (unlike Steam).

It's definitely the most expensive DD store for Australian users - we'd probably get cheaper retail prices, and that's weird since games are notoriously expensive here as it is. Want Alice: Madness Returns or Dragon Age 2 on Origin? They're the equivalent $82 USD here, each. At least Alice is $50 on the Steam store, and Steam has worldwide sales to reduce that even further.

So...uh, no, consumers don't win with Origin. It's pretty much the worst thing to happen to digital distribution here in Australia.
