Of course they aren't.. Why is it still in Beta? Why is it taking so long to implement some basic features into the client?

I didnt have any major problems, but more importanly Steam was launched 8 years ago...they had nowhere to look for inspiration.
either way, steam beginnings weren't pleasant, I prefer steam over origin but steam had its problems when it launched 8 years ago, not for everyone though, just like origin doesn't mess up for everyone. Also i hope origin gets better because it will make steam get better or hopefully something comes and challenges steam. Competition is goodI'd prefer to purchase EA's games on Steam, but I don't have a problem with them wanting to take a risk to expand their business. Origin ain't bad either, but I do treat it like a store rather than a full-service like Steam.
I just think Origin is late to the party.LustForSoulI would say so. Steam launched in 2003, I believe. Origin, nearly 9 years later so they have a bit catching up to do. The thing is, Steam's design and layout is smarter, more intuitive, and less hassle. I'm not saying it has been revolutionary in terms of design, but it has served the PC community well with their digital download sales with a huge library of games, and one of the least-intrusive DRM's out there. The only thing I have against Steam is their customer support. Open up a ticket and wait for an automated response, with a general, yet vague response that more than likely won't help your specific need. With EA Origin, you can reach a "live" person. That's about the only thing EA has over Steam. As for Origin (beta) on a technical level.. it hasn't given me any issues. The only minor issue was one download freezing up, but that was the last of it.
I hate Origin, the downloads always freeze and force me to restart for no reason while it also tends to stop working randomly or make me go offline. Steam is MUCH more well formed and easier to use and navigate.
"I do treat it like a store, rather than a full-service like Steam." You bring up an excellent point and I agree wholeheartedly. I feel the same way every time I start up the Origin program as I browse through.I'd prefer to purchase EA's games on Steam, but I don't have a problem with them wanting to take a risk to expand their business. It's usually due to a corrupt data file or your anti-virus picking up certain files as a virus. I've since used MSE and I've never had an issue since. When I used Avira, Avast, AVG, I would get that problem with Steam and Origin. One time with Steam, verifying the cache seemed to work, but the game wouldn't start up. With Origin, I had to restart the download, but it was only one specific game (I forgot the game, but I think it was Bad Company 2).I hate Origin, the downloads always freeze and force me to restart for no reason while it also tends to stop working randomly or make me go offline. Well apparently Origin has issues with backing up downloads from what I hear, so while my Steam works fine and never loses more then 2% of a download, Origin can get an error or go offline and I have to start ALLL over again. Its just poor design, I'm no computer expert, but you'd think they would want to prevent turning a 2 hour download into a day day session of repeatedly trying to get a game or patch to download all the way.
Plus even if they fix it all up somehow, Steam is still much more convenient, with a significantly larger library of games and better deals. I'm no Steam fanboy and I loved the concept of competition, but I guess the old adage of "EA games come with free misery" holds true for their software as well.

Yeah, that sounds crazy bad. As far as the installer goes, you can store it, but you have to selecting "store installer after download finishes" or something like that in settings. And it's in a cache folder. I downloaded Arkham City the other day, and I have the installer saved in that cache folder just in case **** happens lol. And it works.
Downloads continue from where they left off as long as it doesn't get stuck and corrupted. From my experience at least.
Competition is good, fanboyism from idiots who don't buy games on Origins because it means having an extra program on their PC running is bad...JohnF111
Fanboyism has nothing to do with not wanting another program taking up resources on your computer. Nobody wants 20 DD programs installed on their computer. The rise of a new DD service will inevitably lead to the downfall of another service. Sony is proof of that. Competition destroyed them. Nobody wants steam to go anywhere. Why should they? It offers them everything they need.

By using your logic then Windows is already in downfall... It's 25GB just to have Windows on my PC... I remember when 2GB of OS was too much, you say it as if there's a finite number of programs allowed on a PC where the power and resources are increasing massively.. How is it going to lead to a downfall exactly? Files are associated with their respective software so where's the issue? I've got about 70 programs on my PC and never once hab a problem where my RAM bursts open and all my programs dribbling down my motherboard....I don't think Steam is all the much better from my experience. I'd prefer to be done with both of them to be honest.

i know of sony woes but you said destroyed meaning they exist no more, their going through some troubles which happens, they had a good run so it was bound to happen. business is a funny thing, you can be in good shape one minute and in the slumps in a blink and vice versa. Sony isn't destroyed their just going through the motions, they can change it all around, they just have to get their sh*t together. Its hard times for most japanese businesses right now.
The problem with origin. Is that they're limiting the amount of PC sales to one specific platform.
I won't buy ME3 on Origin
I won't buy a plethora of other titles either.
I mean it's a cool service. But with the juggernaut of steam there really is no point to it. Except for EA to monotize their cash flow into one service.

you missed the point, steam has 8 years on Origin, 8 years to become what it is now, its only fair we see what origin does in the coming years, maybe it will do something big or maybe not. Like gabe said, their not doing anything big right now and in 2003 i'm sure people were saying steam really isn't anything special but look what happened.[QUOTE="N30F3N1X"][QUOTE="Chris_Williams"]

I didn't miss the point, I know what you mean. That, however, doesn't matter - the market is *now*, not 8 years ago.
It's the same argument people use for the MMO market when talking of WoW. It doesn't matter if WoW had a headstart - if other MMOs can't stand the competition when they come out, they either fold or are forced to change their model to dock into a different market.
It's just an example, neither of them applies here considering the resources EA has. Origin will step up eventually, no doubt. However speaking of how the big players were doing in their beginning is taking things out of context.

Steam offers THE best DD has to offfer. Origin won't be able to compete with it. Ever. great opinions you got there It's not. This has validity. Witcher 2 EE on origin. 49.99 PLUS tax Witcher 2 EE on steam 42.50 WITHOUT tax. What does that matter? Witcher 2 is $30 on Amazon, and regularly goes on sale at GoG for less. Every DD has deals - discounts are not something exclusive to steam :?

I'm not saying that. I'm saying that origin has the templates but when the discounts do roll through there's always something better than origin. Origin offers easily the worst of the bunch out of all the DD distributers.[QUOTE="call_of_duty_10"]

Even if you turn auto updates off, steam will detect that updates are available. Once it does that,it will not let you play the game in offline mode.I don't think it would make sense for them to ever endorse or compliment Origin ... at all.
and we all know Origin is bad regardless, there are independant sites who do a better job of DD.

Problem is, EA isn't exactly 'competing' with Steam - they're outright refusing to sell their games on Steam, and that's terrible for consumers.
Instead of granting us the same stock on multiple stores, forcing Steam to lower to prices to stay competitive, EA are actually limiting the options that consumers have. This wouldn't be a problem if their store was great...but it's terrible for anyone living outside of North America.
Most of their sales and some of their pre-order bonuses are US-exclusive (unlike Steam), all of their games are regionally-priced (unlike Steam, where only some games are like that), and every other online store that sells Origin keys is region-locked (unlike Steam).
It's definitely the most expensive DD store for Australian users - we'd probably get cheaper retail prices, and that's weird since games are notoriously expensive here as it is. Want Alice: Madness Returns or Dragon Age 2 on Origin? They're the equivalent $82 USD here, each. At least Alice is $50 on the Steam store, and Steam has worldwide sales to reduce that even further.
So...uh, no, consumers don't win with Origin. It's pretty much the worst thing to happen to digital distribution here in Australia.

I got BF3 for £20... Cheapest deal anywhere, of course EA are restricting consumers just like Steam has done for years, i can't sell my unused games, i can be banned for accepting a gift from someone if that persons account was unlawfully accessed and credit card information used. Aus has always been expensive can't blame a business for capitalising on it. I've read about Steam users using VPNs to get cheaper prices which by the way can get you banned and lose you access to all your games(oh what a wonderful service). The point is Origin isn't just a big bad turd-sprayer hoping to rain some sticky-brown on everyone.
