Gabe Newell reveals Super Mario 64 as his favorite video game of all time, also states that Portal 2 will be the best game Valve has ever developed.

Every time Gabe is brought up in a disscusion, someone just has to make a joke about he's weight.

I pretty much completely agree with all of his Mario assessments. 64 was a wonderful game, while the Galaxy games were disappointing, but not nearly as much so as Sunshine.

Exactly, and I'm glad he finds it to be better than overhyped Half-Life. The maker himself agrees with me.

Cool for him I guess. I never got into 64 that much. To me World and Galaxy are much better.

Half Life 2...one of my favorite games....so Gabe stop playing games and get to Episode 3 already. :P

Super Mario 64 was the last Mario game that I bought but I did love it. Pretty good choice although I would have given it to Ocarina of Time

Well Mario 64 does have better gameplay than the bulk of the MGS series. Definitely better than what MGS4 has to offer.

I dont really care for Mario 64, plus MGS2 and MGS3 are both in my top 10 favorite games of all time (possibly top 5), but those are the brakes son.

Mario 64 has better level design, better gameplay mechanics, much more playable content and is an overall more cohesive package than MGS4. If you were to strip both games of their presentation aspects and boiled it all down to gameplay, a game like Mario 64 would still be enjoyable while MGS4 would not. The only MGS game that was designed in a way to survive on gameplay alone was MGS2, hence the praise it got for its VR missions which were basically collision box levels and gameplay mechanics at the core.
