The Alienware Alpha I3 version can be had for as little as $400 on sale on amazon which is a FULLY functioning computer with Windows 8/10 able to not only play the past 15+ years of pc games with ease.. But out performs the PS4 in modern games, free and superior online services to boot with systems like Steam..

Show me a $349.99 steam machine that outperforms the PS4.
$400 is still $50 more expensive than the PS4/XB1. Gabe said at the same price a Steam machine can outperform current gen consoles, so I want to see a $349.99 Steam machine that can do that.
Your splitting hairs.. It is a fully operational computer that is not only better than the PS4 performance wise but backwards compatible with the entire PC library.. Furthermore if you wish to enjoy the PS4's multiplayer you have to pay a monthly fee, one that will surpass within a years time that $50 won't make a difference.. So it not only runs games better, has a larger library, is completely backwards compatible with 15 years+ of pc games, has a superior FREE multiplayer, but is a actual functioning computer giving you all the benefits you need to use one outside of gaming and the paltry insignificant amount of media tools the PS4 can do..
In less your looking for some specific exclusive game, the Alpha is superior to the PS4 in every way possible..
You can't even argue about local multiplayer because A) Consoles more and more often are cutting them out completely (sadly) and B) We are seeing newer games actually releasing for the pc game with LOCAL multiplayer (like divinity original sin enhanced edition).
Furthermore the developers and publishers don't have you by the balls.. You can decide how you want to play your games.. Not sure how any one ANY ONE would be against steam machines.. It is putting direct competition on console makers to stop locking down their hardware.. Being forced to play at a certain fps, graphical settings, control scheme, mods is absolute horseshit now and hopefully these things in next gen are not going to be locked down by the developer deciding how you want to play the product you bought.
Hopefully steam machines mark the death of the closed system console.. Because the steam machine has basically illustrated quite clearly that any advantage the console had over pc in accessibility and portability, price vs performance, has evaporated in this age of tech... Which is a good thing for most people.
