[QUOTE="i_like_pizza"][QUOTE="stika"][QUOTE="i_like_pizza"] There have been more ratchet and clank platformers (if you can call them that) in the past 4 years than there have been Mario platformers in the past 10. Mario isn't getting washed up, and he never will be. And as far as the story goes... I have yet to play a game with a truly compelling storyline. Games aren't made in such a way that they will be able to tell a story as effectively as a book or a movie can. It's just not the nature of games.
stika
actually it is, just look at farheneith (i have no idea how to spell that) AKA indigo prophecy, final fantasys, Syberia, Bioshock, or legacy of kain series
If you're going to use FF as a game containing a "good" storyline, you just proved my point.
Games simply cannot do it as effectively as books or movies can.
nice way to completely ignore every other game i said
if your going to say FF doesnt have a "good" storyline you just prooved my point that you dont know nothing about gaming
you see what i did there?
Is there is a need for me to bash something if I didn't know what I was talking about? You should be commending me for not being a mindless fanboy and saying all of those storylines weren't that great. I wouldn't know.
I'll get Bioshock along with an upgrade to my PC soon, but I'm in no rush. I have a plethora of FPSs at my disposal. I never played the legacy of kain series, never played indigo prophecy, and never played Syberia. I wouldn't really know whether those have "good" stories or not.
I do know however, that certain games which are acclaimed for their story-telling elements, such as the MGS series, various A/A games such as SotC, GoW, certain aspects of the Zelda storyline, even Halo's story is praised by many, Max Payne, Deus Ex, etc etc etc... don't have compelling stories to the same level as a book would be able to drive that story. They might have the same plot. The plot of a game can be quite compelling, but the story-telling elements will never be as good, because that isn't what games were made to do, and that is ALL a book does.
This isn't a difficult concept, and it's not like I'm bashing games. I'm simply stating something that's obvious.
