Unless these Steam "Machines" have worthwhile exclusives, those of us who game on consoles won't even consider picking one up. I can't think of a reason why PC gamers would want one either. Just connect your PC to your tv and launch big picture mode. If anything i'm more intrigued by AMDs latest initiative to allow devs to "program to the metal" of high end cards. But even that may turn out to be useless if devs build their games for the lowest common denominator.

The only way you will see exclusive at this point is if developers make games only on the SteamOS the steam machines are just PCs you can either run windows or steamOS and play the games on steam which are windows/mac/linux games.
This isn't the death of consoles. Steam machines are pre-built systems similar to PC's you can get from cyberpower, dell/alienware, etc. You will be able to upgrade the components inside too. So it isn't a console. This is targeted to those that want to game on the PC but don't want to build one themselves. Hopefully though this means the end of having to use windows to game on the PC. The PC has been needing of a dedicated gaming os for a while now. Hopefully this is it.
So they are making like a wireless bridge router with games? I don't get this. Don't understand the appeal. I have a laptop which is the most popular thing right now and I can buy steam and connect to my TV to play games. Why do I need a steambox to do this if i already can? This is probably the most useless gadget that is going to bomb hard when only 10,000 hardcore PC fanboys buy it LOL

Steambox is completely open like a PC. You can do what you want to the hardware and software.
Only if conosles were that good.

Ilnazar being an idiot in another thread?
Shocking.
Keep crying, consolite.

Poor Hermits.Nope.
Even if it's great (which I'm sure it will be), and even if it's successful (which I hope it will be), you'd be daft to think something as ludicrous as the Steambox leading to the death of gaming consoles. That is simply never going to happen (unless the entire industry crashed again of course) which is a very good thing.
Nobody is killing anything guys. Shottayouth13-
This quiet and simple five-word sentence is the smartest thing being said in this entire 7 page thread.
I think this is blurring the definition of what a PC is... well its really not I guess. Right now we basically have anything vs ps4 vs xbox one when the new systems come out. the said part is that PC is such a loosely defined term in here, consoles are basically closed PCs... any way steam os is basically consoling PC. Unless the steam OS can install basic Linux software... its pretty much working as a console. I think systems should be classified based on the OS they are running. Just because you can switch an OS just means you can convert the hardware from one platform to another. This steam OS sounds more like a console, but it will allow you to convert any PC to a console, and any steam box to a PC.Steambox(s) = PC for casuals
Not impressed, my laptop can do more.

People said this about Steam.
Look how that turned out.
but at the time... the PC market really needed something since its current model was kind of crap.. I guess steam OS will allow the PC market to do... better in the living room but its really not necessary. I'll likely be getting one of these though... I'm hoping they are decently specced because the one thing I wish my PC could do is living room gaming, for things like skyrim/saints rowIt's just a Steam Console it sounds like. Sure, I'd buy one, but not at the price they're asking. The Steambox was rumored to be priced at $1000 for the "premiere" model. I'll stick with the Wii U, Xbox One, and PS4 till the price goes down. Then I'll pick one up.
