I agree with TC to a extent. I was once a hardcore PC gamer, and I simply adored those mods. I played the heck out of Desert Combat for bf1942. However, with the newer games like Battlefield 2, Halflife2, ect...the mods, the good mods that is, are REALLY REALLY slow to come out. So yes, mods give us what "the devs cant" but how long do we have to wait? Then we get it, it's buggy as heck, people start hacking/cheating...see my point? :(

Eaxctly and most important:

CREATIVE ASSEMBLY (the makers of Rome TW) will NEVER get the LotR license so the mods are the ONLY way to witness HUGE battles like in the movies...

I agree. I'm looking forward to playing Black Mesa: Source. It's basically a mod of the original Half-Life with updated graphics and physics. Why would I want to play that? Because I've never finished HL and it's FREE :)

These are some battle shots from Medieval 2 Total War, the successor to the game which the TC talks about. These are all in game, with individual models and individual AI. (right click and view image so they aren't all squished up).

LoTR: BFME turned out far better for the 360 than I was anticipating.



The BFME series is terrible. It's a dumbed down arcadey RTS that doesn't take a lot of strategy at all. Try playing CoH, M2:TW, or SupCom with an analog stick. Anyways, RTS's just don't sell well on consoles.

CoH was a hit and sold well because it was good. Halo Wars will sell good because it's Halo. I'd rather play it on the PC because RTS's are just better on the PC but I will buy it for the 360 because I dont want to wait for a PC port.

Well traditional Dune2 clones might work on a consoles albeit slowed down and completely transformed to another kind of game...The Total War games have something like 20 keys for even the basic commands...plus FPS camera and WASD controls something thats impossible to do on consoles without slowing and dumbing down the game beyond repair...
