Poll Game of the Generation - Breath of the Wild or Witcher 3? (116 votes)
Witcher 3. No doubt.
Witcher 3. No doubt.

Story:
Most of SW would naturally vote TW3 for the simple reason that TW3 caters to three fanbases (Cows, Lemmings, Hermits) whereas BOTW only caters to a single fanbase (Sheep).
Yes, but that doesn't mean it isn't the better game overall.
Both games had the same issue; they were way too generic and bland to be interesting.
In fact, most gamers got bored of both W3 and BotW way before they reached the end.
So, boring games.
Witcher 3 because there was more to do, had a better story, the environment was just as nice, characters were better, BOTW was a amazing slightly overrated game though.
It's close but Witcher 3 takes it for me, there was something about the world which felt more alive which sucked me in that little bit more. The amazing DLC's (blood and wine in particular) were also awesome gaming experiences. I'm yet to finish BoTW, 120 hours in but the will to finish it isn't there.
For me the games that deserve the "Game Of The Generation" title are The Evil Within 1 and Alien Isolation so far. (Haven't played TW3 and Breath of the Wild though)
The other games of this generation that I played that weren't as good as the ones I have chosen (Imo) : MGS V , Hitman 2016(Played it enough wasn't my type of game) , Doom 4 , Wolfenstein 2 , Batman Arkham Knight , Tekken 7, Metal Gear Survive , Mortal Kombat X , Shadow Of Mordor , DMC 4 Special Edition , Resident Evil 7 and Revelations 2 .(I also liked to play EA Battlefronts but gameplay videos didn't impress me)

Yes, BOTW is the better game overall.
I wouldn't say either are definitely my favorite games this generation, but out of those two I prefer Breath of the Wild.
The Witcher 3 takes the edge on storytelling, folklore and drove me to play to find out what would happen at the end of a quest. But I don't like the combat, exploration, general quest design or kinetics of the game. It feels very rigid, and the feedback you get in combat is really limp. The exploration isn't really there with many of the discoveries explicitly told to me before I found them. I hate following red lines and trails in games. I find that really boring, and much of the game is driven by markers and waypoints that can't really be switched off; The game isn't designed around it. While I appreciate the folklore and story, and the roleplaying elements, I prefer other roleplaying games such as Divinity: Original Sin 2.
Breath of the Wild has drawbacks too. The combat isn't very deep, the difficulty level is inconsistent and overall too easy, quests and shrines are inconsistent in quality; Some are great, others are fetch quests and the story and storytelling is very poor, but it does a few things very well which I appreciate in an open world game. Firstly the sense of discovery and exploration is heightened and reminds me of elements I love about games like Thief; where interfacing with the world and not the UI is the game's driven design. The systematic approach to its tools are much more engaging than previous entries in the series with items that have value and are useful throughout the game. Emergent situations and sandbox fun is more frequent than it is in The Witcher 3 but I still feel that there is room for improvement in Breath of the Wild too.
I enjoyed playing both games though, just that while the story and folklore are really enjoyable in The Witcher 3, I find the gameplay a bit rigid and exploration over-explained.
@hrt_rulz01: It's a fact that BOTW is the better game. TW3 is the better story though.
BOTW might be better in some ways, but I maintain that TW3 is the better game overall. Just my opinion, and I think a lot agree with me :)

That's your opinion. But Evil Within 1 was universally panned so it doesn't deserve anything.

And that's your opinion and lots of shitty reviewers.
I think “Game of the Generation” and I think what game has fully maximized the potential of all that is possible visually, mechanically, environmentally, character and storytelling-wise, etc? What game fully delivers on the promise of what current gen game making can be? That game is The Witcher 3.
BotW obviously. It revolutionized Open Worlds while being pretty much the only reason the Switch does well, getting Nintendo back on track. What did Witcher do exactly? Some like to play it?
Neither...... TLOU 2 isn't out yet.....or Death Stranding...
He specifically said game not movie.
That's funny because you don't have camera control in a movie but do in TLOU 2 and DS........ so your reply is pure fanboy salty tears.
@nomadic8280:You do know it is entirely up to Gameinformer's opinion whether or not they put BOTW or W3 at their top ten, right? I wish people would stop looking at review scores as objective facts and look at their own opinion more. Just because Gameinformer put W3 at the top of their list does not mean Witcher is objectively better.
