Game of the Year

There can only be one. Will Halo 3 trump all? Can Bioshock's single player stand alone?Does World in Conflict have enough quality and following? Can Crysis rip Master Chief a new bum hole? Will Gears of War PC prove itself again? Or will Unreal Tournament 3's stellar entrance receive the crown of legend? There's no mistaking it, one of these games will be crowned GAME of the YEAR. Yesmostly FPS's but the FPS genre is the stronger it's ever been. The question is which one?

Prvious 2 had "records & Ratings" and still failed to get GOTYs .... as the Zero Punctuation guy said "Halo 3 , run of the mill, other games do all its features and better".

It will probably be Halo 3, since according to every game reviewer it was graced by the touch of God, yet I struggle to get as much enjoyment out of it than 'that'.

I'd like to see Super Mario Galaxy, or Bioshock / Half life 2 : Episode 2 (least likely imo)

That's nice. Halo is still one of the best franchisers ever made IMO no matter what anyone says I could care less. Run of the mill blah blah blah... never had more fun of more replayability with a game ever in my life then with Halo 1 , 2 and now 3.

And btw the GOTY this year is easy:

already Halo 3 is not the highest scoring game this year....and there are many high quality titles still unrealeased....like Mass Effect...and Crysis.

True but its core gameplay is generally the same, small deathmatch like online , generic linear pathway singleplayer.

His main point is true though, these mass-marketed mass-hyped "critically acclaimed" games are usually nothing but glorfied generic genre based games that appeal toa broader audiance... I would take out a bet that 90% of Halo players that say "it has best gameplay" havnt played half the other shooters on the market.

Metroid (its gotten over 9.4 rating on other sites)

Mario Galaxy (it will deffinitely get over 9.7 in MANY MANY SITES)

Super Smash Bros Brawl (deffinitely a 9.3+ contender)

i do actually agree with most of his review. i honestly couldnt give a toss about multiplayer and it was pretty generic. I still enjoyed it loads though for probably the same reasons that i enjoyed the first 2 halos. Perhaps Yahtzee had it best, reviewing the game from a new pair of eyes.

Personally, I would give it to the orange box seeing as I'm a Half-Life fanatic.

But, based on what I've actually played this year, I would say Halo 3 merely because Bioshock didn't have Co-op or MP. Halo 3 is loaded with replayability.

I HOPE it's Mario Galaxy. That game looks too amazing to pass up.

But it will probably be Halo 3.

Agreed. Bioware always puts out solid games and I'm expecting a lot from this title.

Halo3 has the best SP and Mp combinedgame for this year... ME looks promising.... Bioshock??/ hmm the game is great and all but there is something that it really misses you figure out what...GS was impressed with World in COnflict so it might win... Crysis?? naah I dont think so I think it wont even get AAA... UT hmm it will probably miss the SP to be GOTY... No I dont think Wii games stand a chance...

You know I love the reviews and the vids so far from Mass Effect and I can't wait to play it and for it to come out. But I dont think you can label it has a game of there until actually comes, or even think of it being in the category until it does.

For me it's easily Halo 3. Hands down the best game this gen IMO. I'll say Mass Effect or Crysis at second. Other honorable mentions would be SMG and MP3 (even though it has no shot at GOTY here with an 8.5)DA_B0MB

We've learned this from history.

^Indeed, if a puzzle game got 10/10 it will be the best puzzle game, but may not be the best game of the year.

Anyway, Halo was awesome, but not GOTY material. Mass Effect looks good, Bioshock has a chance, as does Crysis and Mario Galaxy, imo.
