They need a co-op game where you end up battling your partner to the death. Thats the big twist I'm hoping gears have. I'd take great satisfaction killing dom.

[QUOTE="Saturos3091"]STALKER, "I want to be rich!" One of the worst endings (tied with a few others in that game). You lose in all of them but two, and one you're (spoilers) essentially helping the antagonist(s). (end spoilers)Kez1984
I liked the blind ending alot, good but bad.
If Im working really hard to beat a game, I want to feel like I accomplished something and became a hero(or whatever). I want all my hours spent on the game to go towards an ending were I am considered god to that specific game. Now if my comrades died and I was the lone survivor that would be kindda cool. There are games though that are similure to that, COD4 for example
FF7CC had the perfect "good bad ending" imo ...I wanted to play through it twice but the gameplay and sidequest were pretty crappytiger35010
That ending was epic...We already knew what was going to happen and yet my friends and I still felt really sad at the end

a- He is moved from the zone area, then made blind so he can no longer see it again.
or
b- The zone is healed but the area still exists, he made blind so he can't see it.

Exactly. Like you have fought so hard, killed so many enemies, but in the end the odds are just too great. Like I had an idea for a game, where an alien ship attacks Earth. It'd have a totally epic 20 hour campaign, with every nation on Earth hurling absolutely everything at it. Eventually winning after taking horrific casualties and damage. Everyone is standing around smiling, saying "We did it!". Then, whoom! Hundreds more ships appear in the sky. Shot of everyone despairing. THE END!
I think it's good :P
How about winning the war but being the last man/woman alive. :P might as well have lost the war
And then having the sequel take a different direction. The combat would remain the same, but there would be a bigger emphasis on exploring and conserving.

I don't really get the laughible thing, if he turned into a gaint hamster and attacked new york, now that I would get.

I can't really name any off hand that other people haven't mentioned, and I've only skimmed through some of the titles of the games not what the ending is.
Why would you want to know what games have these endings? It becomes much more of a shocker when you play through a gane and then, as it turns out, you failed.
Kingdom Hearts' ending was good. It was sad, but gave you hope that the light can shine through the darkness. SotC's ending is superb. Kingdom Hearts 2's ending was a fairly happy one, but with Axel and Namine it was also a bit depressing.
A person does not need to die in order for an ending to be dark, heartfelt, depressing, emotional, or leave you wanting more. More games need to focus on an ending such as this that leaves you wanting more by giving such an emotional ending instead of focusing on possible sequels and leaving you on a cliffhanger.
I'd love one of those Halo/Gears type games, where it's humans vs. impossible alien odds. And humans get completely annihilated. It'd be a nice change of pace from "OMG WE SOMEHOW WON!!!".locopatho
Sorry, but the theory of Arnold Schwarzenegger says that tough guys always somehow win.

The thing is, against these impossible odds you almost need to sacrifice something. Maybe not lives but something like luck can only get you so far against an entire armada of aliens that have taken world after after world. What if this character is the only one left after blowing up a main colony of the enemies?
What if, the character realizes he can't win. Imagine as you watch this character you've been playing for an entire game flee and abandon his world, maybe even Earth, and then he/she goes into hiding. The world/human race is gone forever but your character is still alive and that is the end of the game, leaving open for sequel and yet it had a conclusion to this game but not the overall story, not leaving a crappy cliffhanger.
Now think, if the right music/atmosphere/writing/cinematography have all been added to these cutscenes. Its a possibility that the devs could create such a moment that you as a player hate this character that you've been playing as. Not because he was a silent character or annoying, but because of what he has done.
Maybe a sequel would then have you playing the guy again or maybe a different character and you are charged with hunting down the character from the previous game. Could be that much more meaningful.
Sorry for straying off topic of the good guy always winning, but I felt it fit at the moment. :P
I like Dead Rising way of if you failed, you can still kinda win, due the fact you can rescue those who would have died if you continued the plotline.
[QUOTE="MuffinPunk"]Well with Braid, if you didn't get all the stars and just beat all the levels and put together the puzzles, then you don't really win. If you get all the stars then you seemingly have won, but following the story, winning isn't a good thing in this case.Vaasmanpff yea right like anybody has found all the stars. Do you know if anything extra comes from finding them all?
Well many people have found all 8 including me. And the only change is that the constellation of stars creates a picture. I won't say what it is.
Some of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl's endings end with you dying or otherwise failing to reach your intended goal.

Totally agree. I thought the ending was great even if half the story was pretty pointless.
Anyway, FFX has a bittersweet ending
SPOILER
*The main character is a hologram or ghost or something like that and he disappears*
END SPOILER
I think that if done right killing off a character or making the main character lose can be a good thing.
However I'd also like to see a story where instead of playing as the human protecting earth from the invading aliens, you play as the alien protecting you're home planet from the invading humans. I think that could be really great.
Final fantasy 7: crisis core, Zack dies at the end and the turks were able to save him in timeiesexywarden
YOU MOTHER ****
SPOILER ALERT !!!
I played through 25 hours of Silent Hill 2 and the guy simply drove himself in the water with his jeep . Felt really unrewarding ! HAHA, but good anyway !
I played through 100+hours of really tough Colony Wars missions to get the bad+ ending . Very unrewarding . But fun
I like games with bad endings . Even if you put a lot of sweat into them .
Cod4, the US guy dies (allong with everyone) and only Soap survives the SAS part
also Saints Row, you get sold out and blow up on that boat

Nothing like working hard for a just reward huh? even if it means all that work just to lose. :P
Haha, indeed . All those save the world get the girl become filthy rich games are boring ...
i felt i have lost in the ending in Shadow of the colossus, and left me with a guilt feeling (sort of)... that game was awesome..
