Give me a break.

The reasons laid out by the reviewers seemed quite rational to me. I have yet to play the game, but from the text of the reviews I can clearly see that the reviewers were not just mindlessly bashing the game without providing reasons for the score.

"Then there's the issue of the subject matter. Protagonist Travis Touchdown is a sociopath, killing largely for pleasure's sake, but we never really get to explore why he is the way he is. There's also a sick fascination with linking love and sex with extreme violence - Travis at one point waits to confess his love to a woman only after she's blown her own head off with a grenade. In short, there are some things here designed from the ground up to shock and offend. "

After reading this from the review I have to wonder what the reviewer's problem is. Not everything has to be unravelled right to the bottom like all "epic" games want to do all the time. Travis Touchdown is just a sadistic sociopath, (maybe a comment on the constant killing that people do in 90% of all video games??), and I dont want to learn about his troubled childhood and I dont want everyone he kills to have a full backstory to justify their death

Then there's the reviewer's hatred of the blood and violence and killing. That's just the type of game it is, and the reviewer shouldn't be bringing it up, especially as a supposed flaw

From the very next parapgrah:

"No More Heroes certainly gets a nod for being wildly different. It's a unique take on open world play, and its almost nihilistic fixation on violence for the sake of violence has a satirical and darkly comedic edge. Unfortunately, the repetition and lack of substance behind the flash left me cold."

At the very least he seemed to recognize the satirical nature of the game...

If he's going to bash a game that was made to have violence in it, for having violence in it, he should not be reviewing the game, give him Viva Pinata, or something like that.

so you just accept the fact that the character you're playing is one ****ed up son of a gun? It doesnt even cross your mind tp ask why? that seems like a pretty shallow game to.

that's true, and I almost quoted that as well, but I just get the feeling from the review that he just doesn't like the KIND of game that NMH is, rather than how well executed it is. It's not a sandbox game so the hub world being bland shouldn't be that big an issue. As for textures, sure, that's a legitmit complaint

that's exactly right, just like I didn't care about the battletoads' lives leading up them headbutting the dark queen.

People who are bashing this game based off one review should stop until they play the game.

So far, we that the extreme reviews of perfect 100% and this, on the other side, with a 60%.

No More Heroes has excellent fighting mechanics, outstanding character design, and some sweet cinematics.

What is lacking is on the overworld, which is where this reviewer goes into with repetitive tasks. He is correct. But each reviewer will focus on different things. If you focus on the good... why then, it could get a 10/10. But if you only focus on the bad... that will result in a 6/10.

I think the game should be an 8/10 for doing some outstanding things with its gameplay, but not creating an altogether cohesive world.

I can see what he is saying about not liking the protagonist. It's one of the reasons why I couldn't get into Vice City that much - I hated being Tommy Vercitti because he wasn't a nice guy. But that game got universal praise. Sure, Travis here isn't a fleshed out as Tommy, but does that mean Tommi's actions are justifiable just because he was more fleshed out. The GTA games were nothing but a bunch of satire, so maybe he is just sick of those types of games.

Still, If that's how the reviewer felt that there is no to change that. Play the games for yourselves and if you don't like it then that's alright. If you do, then great.

Grasshopper studios hardly has the money to give out. And Ubisoft isn't even publicizing the game. Not to mention, the title has 6 reviews in the AAA-AAAA status, vs. 4 in the AA status, and only 2 in the A-B status.
