It's true. The Playstation Vita has no games and never will, I might as well just go buy a Kindle Fire with the money that I had reserved for it.
- It's expensive - I don't think the PS Vita is expensive for what it is offering. Don't forget, this is a mobile gaming device which you will probably have much longer than a smart phone.
- Battery life - This applies to all mobile devices. If you only want to watch videos you get 5h, listening to music 9h, gaming 3-5 hours. Smart phones and 3DS are no different.
PS One compatibility - Who cares on launch? I will be playing Vita games. I think this only affects a minority.
Pay for UMD games - They have to port the games to a new platform. This does cost money, because the PS Vita is a new console with a new architectur. Full backwards compatibility for free would be a nice feature, but honestly: I want to play Vita games on my Vita, not PSP games. The other option would be, to raise the entry price for the PS Vita and make full backwards compatibility available. I don't want that.
Launch titles - Seriously, what the hell is wrong with the author? Weak launch titles? Did he drink?
Save location - I fail to see how this is a problem.
Memory cards - Yes they are expensive. But Sony will not make much profit from the PS Vita alone, if they make any at all. So they have to take this route, and honestly I don't have a big problem with that. I will buy a memory card once, and then I will stream my media from my PS3.
The PS Vita has several cool features which he didn't even mention. For example that you can connect to your PS3 at home over the Internet (Wifi, not sure about 3G) to access your media library and stream music and movies to you? I mean how cool is this? I have an 2TB hdd connected to my PS3, and now I can have this data in my pocket. Or the new remote play feature - play your PS3 games while your gf is watching TV. PS Vita will rock!
The article, and many like it, have a point about other companies offering better devices to play media on. Playstation portable systems have always advertised themselves as a media hub first, and games secondary. That's a large part of the appeal.
Smart phone devices are the direct competitor to the PS Vita in that regard, but not the 3DS since that system's main feature IS the games. That formula certainly could spell a lot of trouble for Sony and the future of the PS Vita.
It's funny how complaints about things are predefined. The Vita is not expensive. And yet, it was expected to be expensive and the complaints are following that train.
Vita is in trouble, no doubt. Looks great from a distance, but the more and more I look at it I'm unsure who the target audience is. Too expensive for children, adults use smartphones, and I've read many "gamers" on this site say they don't care for portable gaming at all. It seems it will fill a niche audience. Whether or not it will survive I do not know.
I only don't like the price, the stupid 3G model, or their memory card format (Switch to regular SD cards ffs.)

Where I am the listed price is pretty damn expensive, it costs $450 without a memory card or game, that's a little bit cheaper than a 360 which comes with quite a few games. While I know it's not like that everywhere but it is here :PIt's funny how complaints about things are predefined. My little sister is far from a gamer, she's thirteen, she is always using my psp and think the vita looks amazing because of the media functions. If there are gamers out there with the insatiable thirst for social connectivity, the vita might be a good choice
I dont think hidden costs are a problem, the 360 launched with all sorts of hidden costs adnd that didnt hurt it.
the key is advertising, if MS has taught anything its that if you advertise anything hard enough, people will buy it
And I have always said that gaming'journalism' is the toilet of press media
[QUOTE="ActionRemix"][QUOTE="thatisfalse"]the guy says the Vita's going to imitate smartphones, but its smartphone functionality will revolve around gaming, and mainly/only gaming, that's the difference. the writer would fit right in with system war trolls here in game spot. also, people just don't seem to realize all possibilities of the Vita, they think it's just a PSP super plus. I disagree with his article completely.p4s2p0It's a portable PS3, something very few people actually want. So 70mil is only a few ppl? Which is more than sony and ms home consoles sold this gen.
I think you may be proving his point. I own a PS3. I DO NOT WANT a portable that plays ps3-like console games.
I think the biggest issue is hardly anyone really wants to play PS3 games on the go. Portable games are targeted for children or are quick play for bus travel.ActionRemixThat was my main problem with most PSP games, you couldn't really play them on the go due to the length and battery life. The games just aren't portable friendly.

Playing a normal PS3 game is a relatively large time commitment. How often are you in a situation outside of your home where you have the time to play a level of Uncharted? iOS/Android portable games thrive because they're designed to be played in increments of five minutes or less.PS Vita has no games!ActionRemixLol I know it's sarcasm, but Vita has a great launch lineup... especially compared to the 3DS (I had my pre-order down but then cancelled due to no games at launch), which is why I will be happy to buy one at launch.

It's not even about PS3 games, it's the Vita games and the fact that handhelds are just much more convenient in general than home consoles hooked up to TV and only able to play on TV.For me there are no real killer apps (Uncharted and the Gravity game look neat but they aren't must) aside from that I'm good, I don't know of any launch that has blown me away. Memory cards? I don't even own an SD card. PSP games? If you are so inclined just play them on your PSP, Sony never promised backwards compatibility it's just something we expect we'd get. Battery life? Yes it's a bummer but how many people are really playing this thing for 4 hours straight?

I don't understand what you are getting at. Console games on a portable just don't work that well, generally. Especially today, where the "big" visual and sound is the "in" thing. I like Uncharted--it is a very good game, but the senses are GREATLY increased by having a proper a/v setup. I own a psp--probably the biggest waste on a console. The loading on sports games was just unacceptable.

Didn't PS Vita had a huge amount of pre-orders in Asia already? are people that stupid all over the internet and have nothing else to write about :| Have they seen all the games that are being releaed for the VITA in 2012? are they that ignorant? I forgot where I saw the list but no system is getting as many games as the Vita. And 250 dollars for a 6 year system isn't expensive at all. I think there's too many people on earth... you know? we could use more space for smarter people. The dumbasses should go find some other home land where they belong.
