most people would agree that FF7 is the best RPG....with Chrono Cross and FF3 and FF8 and so many others...stereointegrity
No they wouldn't
And link, tc?
Torment's only at #22? I won't even bother reading the rest of it.
As for the link... http://www.gamepro.com/article/features/207777/
*Edit* Ok, so I gave in and viewed the next page...and they ranked Oblivion over BG2 and Torment? Ahahahahahahah-urgh.:|
*Edit 2* I respect the fact that they put the Ultima series in the top ten, but putting Mass Effect anywhere near the top 26 RPGs of all time is a bit of a travesty, too.

What about Fallout 1 or 2?
I hate it when people call Zelda an RPG series.
Final Fantasy VII isn't even close to being the best RPG. After a while I just wanted to murder Cloud in his sleep.
Man, hermits here have made me really want the original Fallouts. But the pack that you can get them in online doesn't work with Vista.
For 19 bucks I'm willing to try both the first Fallout game and Tactics.
Is there are way to get it to work on Vista?

You can get the three games for $18 US off gog.com, and they claim to be Vista compatible.
I'm sorry but this list is too controvertial. Understand that I'm not an RPG buff and every Top # list will be different but honestly...
1. Pokemon Red and Blue should be on there, not Diamond and Pearl, they definatley made the larger impact. 2. How could FF12 be on there? I guarente that if I polled 100 random gamers, AT LEAST 95 would put 6, 8 or even 10 far ahead of 12. That is just rediculous. 3. Where is the love for Phantasy Star. 2 or 4 could've easily made any top 26 list. 4. Yes, Fallout 3 looks like an awsome game, (I have yet to play it) but it has been out for a grand total of 1 week. Could someone at least what for it to stand the test of time a little bit before calling it the 6th greatest RPG of all time.
Fallout 3 is the best WRPG of all time? Wow.
World of Warcraft being the best MMORPG of all time is no surprise.
Final Fantasy VII being the best JRPG of all time is just too predictable.

There's a reason why it's predictable..

I know.
Hmm this could quite possibly be the worst "best" list ever conceived.
Pokemon, oblivion, fallout 3, and super mario rpg are all better than planescape and BG2? No, just no.
Also where the hell is secrets of mana? I'm playing that now with 2 of my roommates, and it's more fun that most of the games listed.

mmm maybe, but not diamond and pearl, not even close. I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but it's basically been the same game released every 2 years for the past 10, and throw in like 50-100 new pokemon with each iteration, the weirder and lamer, the better, and have 3 be legendary. So yea maybe red and blue, but nothing else.[QUOTE="ArisShadows"][QUOTE="Vaasman"]Hmm this could quite possibly be the worst "best" list ever conceived.

I wouldn't be looking at Gamepro for the most well based "best ***** list". Just looking at the FPS one also, I was annoyed at this statement,
"The controls, graphics, sound, and online modes were all hugely influential -- this is another series that played a key role in the creation of Halo."
Why are they trying to label Halo as some holy coveted game? Oh and speaking of which, Halo 3 in the top 10? Before anyone flames me, I'll just simply say the Halo series is overrated. By no means are they terrible games at all, it's just the way people talk of how great it is, is severely overrated. Oh and where's the original Half-Life?

I going to say Crystal, because I thought it took the best out of both those two. I also loved Yellow.

I'm going to say that the original R/B/Y were timeless classics and I would never get tired of that game. IMO G/S/C was a faithful follow-up to the series and offered some very fun extras (The ability to go to Kanto was fantastic). However, R/S/E I was disappointed with, the series has gone downhill, but I still find the recent games fun, just no where near the quality the first 2 generations were at.

you're kidding right?
it's pretty up there, i wouldnt be suprised. i dont believe there is a best, buy FF7 is definately one of the most popular RPGS in history.
[QUOTE="naruto7777"]no link and of course The FF series is the bestArisShadows
Only if you havent played many rpgs.
The fact they gave ff7 number 1 shows the list is crap.WilliamRLBaker
It's not even a contender for #1? Geez, give us your list.

I say something like Fallout 1 or 2 be number, hell even something as old as Wizardy. I probably be in the list, but not number 1 for sure.
Meh I'd give that list about a three out of ten. It had a few great RPGs on the list but left out too many good ones imo.Bigboi500
Nice siggy.
Mass Effect? Zelda? Fallout 3?
And how the heck on earth do these things out beat persona 3, dues ex, planescape torment, fallout 1 & 2, Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, Skies of Arcadia, alundra, morrowind, wizardry 8, icewind dale, divine divinity, the witcher, vampire the masquerade: bloodlines, Arx Fatalis, gothic 2 & 3, daggerfall, Betrayal at Krondor, Eye of the Beholder, Arcanum, vagrant story, GRANDIA 2!!!!, dark cloud 2, etc
I could go on for ages about rpgs that wipe the floor with those titles, I wouldn't even class the zelda series as rpg its freakin action adventure.
no suikoden 1,2(best of series),no legend of dragoon,no alundra,no phantasy star 4,no breath of fire 3..........
and mass effect in.......a bunch of kids are doing lists these days.and yes ffvii deserves to be on top and if you dont agree you either played ffvi before and think ffvi is the best or you played ffvii after 4-5 years......
check out gta4 they gave it a 10,if they played it and review it now (after 5-6 months) it would get a 9 tops, imagine playing the epic ffvii 4years later, you wouldnt get the game ,thats how it is.at the time ffvii was released the only good rpgs out there for ps1 were suikoden 1 and breath of fire 3(see these games to see the difference that game had,a difference so great that wont happen again in gaming, except with generation change.)
ffxiii can make that impact again ,but we havent seen anything yet, also wkc seems great too,but other than that i am greatfull that i lived in the era of snes,ps1 and feel sorry for young gamers out there
