lol almost 100% of gamers are non athletic lumps.
StrongBlackVine
You are definitely wrong about this. I lift 3/4 times a week and lot of guys at gym play videogames.
Anyway considering them pro athletes is joke, but at same I really don't care what they label themselves.
Are you athletic? Being fit =/= athletic. When they try to promote people playing FPS on control pads as competitive gaming, you know the world has gone down the shitter.
Competitive tournaments are cool and all that, but I can't sit well with the participants being referred to as athletes. Coin a new word or something.Shottayouth13-
They won't be referred to as atheletes by anyone outside the government. It's only the legal definition for documentation and other stuff. They've always been called either players or by their "online name."

Like I said, people took a misleading topic title and ran with it because System Wars users generally don't read 99% of threads or posts before theirs.[QUOTE="Rage010101"][QUOTE="AD216"] it's stupid and pointless in my opinion. i can understand the tournaments and what not but what is the purpose of getting gamers under contract and running leagues?LordOfPoms
Well in Korea, STarcraft is considered a National Sport. A contract is important so that the team sponsoring you doesnt go back on agreement as far finances, practice sessions, housing (yes starcraft players are given a place to live, i am not kidding), work time, royalties, publicity, winning cuts, etc. Leagues are self explanatory - Starcraft has been doing global competition (ie usa vs korea), it helps for organizing brackets.
For all the same reasons teams put athletes like LeBron James under contract, professional gaming teams do it to their talent. It makes a ton of sense.ya pretty much. i dunno why AD216 is asking about something that is so common sense and self explanatory.
I don't understand why people are trying to downplay this. I think that it's great that this happened and I definitely think video games require just as much time and effort as other sports. Not all video games but the ones that focus on being competitive like L.O.L. and StarCraft. Physical ability alone doesn't win you the World Series, it takes teamwork and extensive knowledge of the game being played as well and no one here can argue against that. Video games can have those same aspects, even competitive video gamers know that you need to keep yourself physically healthy if you want to perform better.

What do you mean? It's already happening, obviously. Now go back to your hiding place under the bridge. Hell watching professional Dota 2 and counterstrike tournaments is one of my favorite things to do on youtube.http://www.gamespot.com/news/us-government-recognizes-league-of-legends-players-as-pro-athletes-6411377
 how does the great people of sw feel about this? could u imagine competitive gaming leagues getting gamers under contracts to compete against other teams of gamers?

Have you been living under a rock? Starcraft has been doing that for over a decade now.
it's stupid and pointless in my opinion. i can understand the tournaments and what not but what is the purpose of getting gamers under contract and running leagues? What's the f*cking purpose? WHAT'S THE F*CKING PURPOSE? To have a job and you know... make money? Entertain players who play the same game? The amount of timed I owned people on these forums and made them cry and such. I would be a pro althlete if these forums were videogames.

TBH, I'm more concerned with so many people using the letter "U" for all these different reasons other than to spell a word. It's just...sad...and lazy.
But, on another note; to gamers being recognized as pro athletes. No...just no.
this is a joke, gaming literally requires little physical exertion for a start. It's all a ruse to make basement dwellers think they are now jocks.razgriz_101
16 thousand , 600 hundred and 84 posts, yet this fool thinks he can call gamers that make wayyyyyyyyyyyy more money than him a basement dweller.
I never understood these pathetic people. One would think that a fellow gamer ( thats on a gaming site) would be supportive of any gaming news, But instead anything to do with gamers making money for playing games gets teared down .. " basement dwellers". So much hatred for the things you like to do. If competitive gaming gets more mainstreamish, That will alleviate the sterotype that you yourself are promoting. Yet you are exactly what you speak.
What person with a life has 16,000 + posts on a gaming site. Only a basement dweller.
Professional gamers? Sure, I would consider that a legitimate career. Pro-athlete? No, that is something esle entirely. You need to be playnig a sport that requires ATHLETICISM for you to be an ATHLETE.

It's huge in Korea that's all I gotta say, other than that no I don't consider them athletes at all.

Yeah, it should. Can you play Starcraft as well as Flash? Yeah, you won't be able to no matter how many thousands of hours you practice the game. It is defiantely on of the least stable jobs you can have, but it is definately lucrative if you are the best.

Bold statements...idiotic, but bold. The fact that you don't know that I'm referring to "texting age" there isn't astounding. I'm in the Navy and married...simply go on here like 10 or so minutes a day. The fact that you judged me based off of that is sad.
Sad news. Now losers will try to have an excuse to not get a job .
Bright side is that I can learn the game and have another source of income within couple weeks.
At least they weren't running around with beer guts and neckbeards telling people that they're pro athletes.Enforcer246
No they just said they were pro gamers or e-athletes. It's not really much different. And in certain countries they may be considered "pro athletes"

ITT: Most here don't read links. It's just part of the legal jargon. Obviously they aren't generally recognized as actual athletes.
