I think a lot of old games still look really great, but you may disagree. Parasite Eve 2 is probably the best looking console game of the PS1 era.

Planescape: Torment, but that's from 99'. Duke 3D, I think, though the pixels show. Basically, many sprite based games still look great. To the guy who says "I don't think by today's standards that any games from back then look good"... Not entirely true. Early games that are 3D rendered look *terrible* by today's standards, but sprite based games? In the late 90's, when resolutions were getting high (late 90's you could actually play a lot of PC games in what is now known as HD, believe it or not), sprite based games got pretty damned nice to look at. Outside of resolution, which wasn't bad, the only real issue was, how good was the artist drawing the pictures? And yes, those pictures were drawn, not rendered, so they captured that flair of the artists (figurative) brush. Games like Planescape: Torment, Dragon's Lair, still look very nice to this day.

I still love Grim Fandango's graphics, but you wouldn't confuse them with new graphics.

It's sad this game didn't sell well enough for a sequel. It's a masterpiece.

That´s probably one of my biggest frustrations regarding videogames. How can the best adventure game ever(imo)not have a sequel when we see so many trash out there with four or five(if not more)iterations?

Sigh...

LOADS on the PC to be honest. Really surprises me how well games can be scaled - especially with things like Glidewrapper.

I think Resident Evil 2 and 3 have held-up well as far as backgrounds go, since they're pre-rendered. The character models, though, are a different story.

And my vote would go to unreal. altough there is no real 3D game that looks graphically appealing in this day and age from that long ago visually its another story. 2D games rely on visuals not graphical tech so you can't apply them to topics soley around graphics.

Bingo, right here! People this was the Crysis of the late 90's. This game brought so many PC's to their knees. Short of a PII MMX and a Voodoo 2, you weren't touching how this game was meant to be played. Wooooo!

Played through King's Quest V, VI and VII a few month back. Those games are beautiful. Really neat animation too.

It's very easy to lists dozens of pc games before CDROms and goog resolution became standard on this platform long before 1999, thus allowing lush 2D graphics and those don't really age much.

Not just the PC. I can think of *plenty* of SNES era games that look great. There were games released then that are about in the same ballpark as Braid.

Let's put it this way... Braid, by today's standards, looks good. Some older sprite based games are comparable to Braid for quality of sprites and art style. Therefore, some pre-2000 games look good by today's standards. Or are you suggesting Braid, a game which *many* this gen have described as beautiful, looks bad? Heck, even the Gamespot review describes it as "beautiful" - and it's basically done with tech that has been around since the SNES era.
