Can you guys tell me ( please ) a list of games with a deep beautiful story?

I miss those kinds of games.. the Shenmue series really got me and I was wondering if there were other games out there that have some intense story, possibly close to reality, like Shenmue. I really liked wandering around the city and interact with the enviroment in that game, so immersive and intriguing, imo.

I loved how in his room, there was a sega console, and you could play older sega games too. I must find my dad's killer...

Anyways I do miss those kinds of games as well, the atmosphere was amazing, the interaction was great. I feel like this generation resolves around shooting too much, developers are afraid to part from the constant action and games like Shenmue due to the fair that it might not sell.

They were both created by Sega's arcade divisions. Shenmue was AM2 (Yu Suzuki's team responsible for Virtua Fighter). Yakuza was Amusement Vision.

What sets Shenmue apart though is the sheer level of detail. Being able to look in drawers, enter or interact with most buildings in the area, every single NPC having their own voice actor, etc. Yakuza has nothing like that sadly. They both have a very authentic Asian feel to them though.

Shenmue BLEW MY MIND. Sailors, FORKLIFTS!!! The Afterburner Arcade Cabinet, the toys you can collect from those machines... Catching a leaf between your fingers = The most epic thing I've ever experienced. :D Plus that end walk through that beautiful forest at the end of Shenmue 2 was just wow.

Some games I know with deep story:

- Max Payne series

- Zelda series

- Okami

- Heavy Rain

- Ico, Shadow of the Colossus

- Metal Gear saga

- Alan Wake

well I guess only Max Payne and Heavy Rain are "close to reality", like you said. For the rest there are many adventure games on Pc, but wow.. I just realized how unique is Shenmue.

it's sad that there are so few games revolving around some deep story

I guess for real stories I should watch movies, then. Sadly I can't control movies. more Shenmue-like games and less fps's please!

well there are good storylines in games but i agree the high selling fpses in halo and cod tend to not have a great single player story.

Onimusha should have a good story too, not quite realistic though.

Heavy Rain is basically a western Shenmue, gameplay's nearly identical (except for the CSI stuff).

Honestly, I don't think there is a game like Shenmue; that game is a one of a kind masterpiece.

Disagree... Shenmue actually had a lot of exploration, secrets and a real time battle mode (using the Virtua Fighter engine no less). Even a weather system coupled with days and nights. Heavy Rain is just moving from scene to scene, with some QTE's thrown in and it's all over very quickly.

Oh I do remeber it very well ;) And people answered: Oh,that day....the day of the "incident".... (I believe Sumya-san is the one that says that) lol
