Assassin's Creed Unity. I finally beat the damn thing last night... and dear god I have never raged against an assassins creed game so much before, and I tend to rage at assassin creed games more than any other games out there, on account of their ABSOLUTE SHIT parkour mechanics. Just take a freaking note from Shadows of Mordor. They got it right, and it was their first damn try. For the love of god, stop releasing one every damn year. Take your time, we're okay with that Ubisoft. I know you're not, but we are.

Oh... and that ending. Are you kidding me? Tragedy for tragedy's sake is not good writing... in fact it's the opposite of that... bad writing.

@magicalclick: Well not everyone likes it. Like I hate the shit out of DMC type games. I just don't enjoy that button mashing type combo gameplay. I tried with the remaster trilogy and DMC 4 way back when it came out and the cows were upset that it went multiplat, but they're just too horrible to play. But I love NGB and NG2 though.

I'm concerned Arkham Knight will kill off the Batman games. Hopefully WB Montreal will continue. But they may copy the crap Rocksteady did in Arkham Knight. No atmosphere, shitty Batmobile, devolved combat. It's what happens when you take something that works and try to change it for the sake of it.

Arkham Origins on the other hand was criticized for being a copy of a great game with it's own story. But I fail to see how that's a bad thing when Arkham Knight is what you get when you force changes. And actually the Arkham Origins Story and Theme were quite enjoyable.

Once Arkham Knight has been completed, it just feels too boring for anything other than a short mess around. What a disappointment. Lost respect for Rocksteady.

It's shaping up to be the best Arkham game of i've ever played , the game is frickin great and underrated.

'Shaping up' have you just started playing it? It's somehow the worst Arkham game. It takes everything I loved from before and pisses on it.

So outside of those things I mentioned, the city design is horrible, which they had to do for the Batmobile. The boss battles are terrible. The actual Arkham Knight storyline is one of the best in video games, because it's engaging and you genuinely want to know who it is, but they ruin that with heavy hinting later on.

I play the shit out of the last three Arkham games and I'll continue to replay all of them, but Arkham Knight is the only one that I have had little interest in going back to get the proper final ending let alone replay it from the begining. What sort of Batman game has no atmosphere, you could replace the character with Nathan Drake, it wouldn't feel much different.

Any wrestling game after Smackdown HCTP sucks.

Tony Hawk Underground 2 sucked and killed the franchise.

Guitar hero 3 sucked + Rock Band killing it.

Driver 3 was a HUGE failure after the awesome Driver 2.

Every Need For Speed game after Underground sucked.

PGR died with the 4th game. It sucked.

Doom, Zelda and Half life have always sucked.

Kinda thought Judgment killed Gears but Gears 4 is on the way. We shall see if the franchise is alive and well or not so much when Gears 4 hits the street.

Just beat the story missions , now i'm playing side missions. (PC)

C'mon .. atmosphere is better than ever ...this is like one of the most gorgeous worlds ...seriously i don't get how you liked the City but not this one in terms of design, graphics and atmosphere

The gameplay is evolved , Batmobile was necessary , they needed to implement sth new ....and i believe Batmobile was the best idea and it really did change the game ...

I'm sorry that you didn't like the game , i truly enjoyed it.

Well, it's good you enjoyed it. Nothing wrong with that. :-) The fact that we're arguing about this stuff shows you how far gaming has come.

It would be boring if things were like they were back in the older days when games were either good or bad. Now it doesn't even matter if reviews say a game is good or bad, it's up to us.

It didn't have any games for a decade; it sold poorly and was the most expensive game developed at the time. The only reason it started back up was because a cheap and dirty remake sold well.

A few of those games people are mentioning I actually liked...

Driver 3 while glitchy was a good enough game at the time, had better driving than GTAIII series.

Max Payne 3 was alright.

Silent Hill: Homecoming was OK but not brilliant, the worst in my opinion was SH4 with the respawning enemies and breakable weapons and limited inventory I hated that with a passion, good concept executed poorly. Such a shame Konami killed all their own IP.

Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness... that game was awful. I tried to play the game and give it a chance but I encounted so many game breaking bugs I gave up, one time it saved during a cutscene so when you loaded it up you never got control of your character back so you had to sstart the entire game again, another time i got stuck inside a building you could not get out of. For a game that could not be patched on PS2 it was awful.

Also one of the Rayman games on PS2 was glitched, at one point in the game it crashed every single time, I even tried restarting the game and it didn't help. Was not even anything to do with loading or the disc the game was just a POS.

Angel of Darkness came in 2003. The next game, Legend, arrived in 2006.

CoD: MW2 killed CoD as a good PC series. It introduced matchmaking, reduced player counts, smaller maps, paid map-packs (before this they were free on PC) and increased speed of play. I think it was a good console shooter, but yea, it forever ruined the series on PC.

Fear 2 - just a really lame shooter compared to the first which was brilliant, the series never managed to recover its reputation

Dead Space 3 - good game, but it didn't sell well enough and literally killed the franchise

Medal of Honor (the first modern-day one) - this series really should have stuck to historical periods.

The failures and death of these games hit me hard because i did like earlier games of their series.

Ultima 9 (however Ultima 8 showed how out of it they were and really there was no chance in U9 being any good with that level of incompedence with Ultima 8)

C&C 4

The Sims 4

Dune 2000

Privateer 2

Simcity 2013

Medal of Honor (all down hill after Allied Assault)

Syndicate (the fps version killed any hopes of continuing the franchise)

Populous The Beginning

Anyone notice these are all EA games, they know how to kill a franchise like no other.

I actually liked Perfect Dark Zero

How, they are coming out w/ a f2p mmo:

Loading Video...

tbh I haven't kept up to date just want Black Dessert, but it brings a lot of new stuff to the table + it'll be on PS4/ PC f2p

A game like that will gain traction in f2p market no matter how bad the launch is and best of all shockingly you DONT need a powerful PC or graphics card to play this game which was proven months ago making it accessible to all.

  1. Thief 4...I enjoyed it for what it was but it killed the franchise for good I'm afraid. No publisher will ever touch it again.
  2. Quake 4...it's not no Quake 2, that's for damn sure.
  3. UT 3...same reason as Q4.
  4. Ninja Gaiden z..I still prefer the original Xbox NG but Z probably didn't really kill the franchise or anything but I'm wondering if the series is going to continue or not.

AC Unity, but maybe will wait to see how Syndicate does before seeing if the franchise is totally dead.

I loved Unity, I thought it was fun and one of the most beautiful games ever. I didn't care much for Black Flag or AC 3 but Unity I thought was great. I'm still impressed at all the tiny details they put into it and all the NPC's they managed to cram into every street corner. The artwork and models alone are a masterpiece. Now the story didn't do anything for me but there was plenty to do. If you really observe, explore and look around, it's pretty amazing imo.

@wiiboxstation: <Sigh> True. I'm one of those guys who rails on AC games, then looks back stunned to realizes he's bought each one. I don't know what it is about those games, but they entice me, even if Ubisoft keeps making things worse. After Unity though, I'm steering clear, that was a slap in the face. I tend to dislike more than one protagonist anyway. Also, I like your moniker.

That "tech demo" happens to still be the first praised TR since before Angel of Darkness and one that probably got new TR fans (like me, because Legend on the GameCube is my first adventure with Ms. Croft). Believe it or not, the original TR games aged horribly (and probably worse than Goldeneye and Perfect Dark on the N64 combined) due to an action-platformer relying on freaking tank controls (which only still work best for games like Fear Effect and Onimusha) and it's why I think Anniversary was a great remake (on the level of Metroid: Zero Mission in that both games make the original, for all they brought, irrelevant).

Old thread,'but I don't subscribe to a single game killing a franchise. Commercially sure, but creatively speaking any franchise can bounce back.

Why a people listing a bunch of games that didn't kill their respective franchises? There's a difference between not liking something and saying it destroyed something.

I very much agree. TC should take control of this thread or just have it locked.

Why? Even the thread creator doesn't understand his own thread.

He listed RE5, well they keep on making Resident Evil games.

I never knew that The Order 1886 was a franchise already.

It was meant to be a franchise but i doubt it'll ever get a sequel, same goes for Heavenly Sword.

For me, Syndicate and Unity put together have irreparably killed Assassin's Creed.
