Games this generation that had a great ending

Assassin's Creed 1, 2 and Brotherhood, Dead Space 1, Portal 2, Mass Effect 2

Halo 3 ended well.

inFamous had such a surprising ending. You'll never see it coming, but it fits everything that happens in the game perfectly including the concept.

It's all arbitrary. What do last gen graphics have to do with anything? Silent Hill 1 is still scary as sh*t!

I'll echo the common sentiments of SW and also say Reach and ME1. Call of Duty 4 definitely had a satisfying ending too.

I think Borderlands 1 had the best finale of any game this generation. ;)

First post, and its already spot on. Shattered Memories not only has a great ending, it's one of the best stroies in a game all gen.

I think that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has the best ending out of any game released this generation.

This gen....

- Bioshock 2 - the Good Ending, specifically the one connected with the "Savior" Achievement. The end-game portion leading up the ending is also awesome, probably one of the most intense end-game portions I've played. HUGE improvement over the end-game portion and ending of the original BioShock.

- Silent Hill: Shattered Memories - Cool twist if you don't know about it beforehand.

- BioShock 2: Minerva's Den - Cool twist at the end.

- Red Dead Redemption

- To the Moon

- Half-Life 2: Episode Two - Even though it's a cliffhanger, it's a damn good one. The end-game portion with the defending the base from Striders leading up to ending is also awesome.

Final Fantasy Type-0 ...

I liked Bioshock's twist ending. Other good ones off by memory are Gears 3, Darksiders, Halo Reach, Uncharted 2, Resident Evil 5, MW3, Assassins Creed 2, Saints Row 2 & 3, Batman Arkham Asylum & City, Dead Space, Limbo, Braid, The Darkness 2.

I'm sure Half 2 Ep 2 would of been good if they ever continued it...

I can't agree.

The Witcher 1 had a great ending - even with the unanswered questiosn about the Wild Hunt and Geralt's amnesia (all/most of which were answered in TW2), the twist at the end was really well done. It really made you stop and questions your motivations and whether or not you truly 'won', while at the same time making you feel sorry for the villain.

As for The Witcher 2, I liked the endings. We got all of the answers we needed, the game's plot reached its logical conclusion, and it set up the third game's various wars quite well. It was also cool to see how different they were - my friend's ending offered him a satisfying conclusion to the story he was persuing, while my ending (with different revelations/battles) brought me to a different, also satisfying conclusion.

Agreed. That 'second' ending with the kid completely ruined the story for me, making the entire game feel like a complete waste of time (and the story had already been 90% filler).

MGS4 - Purely epic! Solid v Liquid was a fight 20 years in the making!

RDR - amazing, expecially getting revenge at the end :P
