What games have you played that have had a terrific storyline until the ending?
The biggest one I can think of is Bioshock, both of the endings were very poor.

The ending to MGS 4, while by no means terrible, was severely disappointing for me. Probably because I finished the game, and thought about it, and realized that Kojima explained just about everything by
nanomachines
Yeah, Bioshock and MGS4 for me too.

Fallout 3 as well.

GTA4's ending I found very poor, especially after the great stuff before that.

I was let down by that as well, especially after how good GoW 1's ending was.

I'm kinda curious on why people says Bioshock. I thoughtthe ending was good... I mean
you get back to the surface with the Lil Sisters and you all be happy together
And while you diss that ending, you don't even mention AC, which btw has not even an ending, the story just get chopped at one point and we're waiting for the next part of it.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.

The ending was so painfully horrible... I hate LucasArts for making Obsiden rush through the production of the game.

Wow some of you people pointing to bioshock show massive amounts of fail. The 'good' ending showed little but it had a lot of heart.

WARNING KINDA SPOILERISH..

I mean seriously has there ever been a video so emotional with only a couple of hands in it.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot Dead Space, but I should've seen it coming from a mile away. Its just that type of game. On another note, I thought Mass Effect's ending was going to be horrible, but it actually turned out to be awesome. One of the few "to be continued" ones that I enjoyed. Oh, and BioShock was a complete slap in the face after such a cool story throughout.

It was emotional... not to the point to bring you to tears but emotional nevertheless. And it's a good ending... **** even the bad ending was good IMO.

There are only a couple of questions I want answered. Like what's the meaning of life and why did micheal jackson rape his own career. Most of all I want to know why the **** did I watch the happening till the end. Shyamalan meet uwe boll.

Half-life 2 takes the cake. If I wouldn't have had Episode 1 to play ten seconds after beating Half-Life 2, I would've exploded.

Bioshock had an ending that destroyed the experience for me. Mass Effect had a finale line that destroyed the ending for me. Well not quite, but the way the final line was delivered was so cliched and cheesy it makes me wonder why they bothered to put it in. The rest of the ending was fantastic though. As for Bioshock, what a terrible way to end a great game. I wonder if the writers just gave up at the end. Past the big twist, the plot just went downhill at a ridiculously fast rate.

Most game endings fail to live up to the rest of the game.

Only games i can think of which isin't very old which has a great ending is Mass Effect and The Witcher.

RPG's need a good ending, and Fallout 3's wasn't!

If you consider Advent Children an ending to FFVII, I would say that. They should hve left it go at the end of the game, and not made anymore. I didn't think AC was bad movie, great graphics, but I hate contrived happy endings.

Agreed. It felt so anti-climatic and the fact that it was rushed. Another ending I didn't like is Fable 2. That story is written by a first grader. I've had fortune cookies that express better choices to make then in the ending. I love the games Epic makes as well, but Gears 2 had a dissappointed ending.

-Mass Effect may have had an epic ending, but just about any other RPG would've had another chapter after that bit, where you actually defeated the bad guys (exactly like in Neverwinter Nights, I guess). I don't see the point of a 'to be continued' when there's not much left to the plot - we know who the villains are, we know where they are...we just have to go and kill them. I found it disappointing.

-I'd say Fallout 3, but that never had a great story to begin with.

Others:

 • Beyond Good and Evil.
 • Dreamfall (Zoe's part of the ending was extremely well done, but this has to be the biggest cliffhangar ever).
 • Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy.

Assassin's Creed. I was loving it. I loved the plot, the characters, the fact that it was historically accurate, I didnt even mind the way they put me into the shoes of Altair, but that ending.... :| How the hell are you going to make a sequel off of that?

Edit: It didnt ruin the game for me. AC is still a superb game that I loved its just the ending was really dissapointing. Especially after a friend of mine told me he heard it had an amazing ending. The next day I asked him if he meant another game.

Indeed. The game could have been leagues better than the first. I loved how all the moral choices were so ambiguous, unlike BioWare's "angel vs. devil" styIe of morality. When something fell into those two categories, Kreia normally chastised you for being stupid and not "seeing the whole picture." And it was quite enlightening to look at it that way, especially on Nar Shadaa where even given a beggar some spare credits could lead to disastrous consequences.

They have to pull another two games out of that ending... which is unfortunate for the IP.

I have to disagree. That sounds simple to just say it, but what's "left" in the story is more than what can be summed up in a mere epilogue.

Agreed. I hate it when games always give you the cliche "good vs evil" schematic when it comes to moral choices.

Yeah KOTOR 2's ending was pretty bad. Such a shame that game's story wasn't as good as the first, because everything else about it was much better.
