i would have thought console shooters, but i forgot about pc

Counter Strike is prety brutal, and the older Battlefield games are impossible to play thanks to both them and their use of broken game tactics (BF2 had some seriously bad hit detection).
Of course, the SOCOM series is PS only and just as brutal as any PC shooter in terms of community.
The original DoTA was much worse. If you were caught even downloading the map it was an instant ban by 99999.9999% of hosts.Nothing is worse than heroes of newerth.

PC racing sims by far. I have yet to see a community get nearly as brutally over the top insane as simulator racers.
How the heck isn't RTS winning? FPS have nothing but bitter people but RTS online community is absolutely BRUTAL. Don't even get me started on DOTA and LoL.
Isn´t there a penalty for people that quit before the match ends in those games? you lose your quarters?[QUOTE="FancyRaptor"]
Arcade Fighters. You start winning a match and your opponent will leave, but not before cursing you out.

Sports easily. Madden alone is probably the most competitive game on the net right now. Add in NHL(Huge teamplay community), Fifa, The Show, UFC, and Fight Night and its not close really.
I can't think of another genre that has had a competitive TV show dedicated to it.
Brutally competitive? PC Shooters that require massive skill, such as Quake III (NOT COUNTER STRIKE) and PC RTSs and MOBAs, such as Starcraft and League of Legends. Starcraft has some massive leagues in America, Europe and Asia (Korea specially).
[QUOTE="ShadowDeathX"]Well it seems that there is some debate, but we can all agree that the most brutal platform is PC. Competitive competition is more hardcore on PC.xYamatox
^^ Would like a word with you...
I see a lot more Starcraft tournaments than I do SFII tournaments...
no mmos? fail. griefing was always an issue in those things.
people have died. you are all he called me a bad name! boo hoo but mmo players have gone to other peoples houses and stabbed them over imaginary swords.
everything else is just fluff after that.
Anyone who picks something other than PC shooters or PC RTSs doesn't know much about the competative gaming around the world. I went with RTS because of your comment about games with a high barrier of entry.
Also, I would have replaced racing with MMORPGs. EVE would be my main example.
Bioshock 2. Seriously. All that's left in that game nowadays is a group of 200 hardcore elitists. Basically every match you find is with people ranked in the top 50. I'm one of them, of course, but it's still ridiculously competitive.
lol @ people saying League of Lamers is hard. You've never played DotA, have you? LoL is basically a dumbed down, casualised version of DotA.
Also, lol @ people mistaking HARDCORE COMPETITIVE communities with immature children communities.
example of hardcore and competitive community: quake/starcraft/dota, tons of e-sports involved, tons of practice and concetration required to even play the game at a casual leve.
example of a kiddie immature community: LoL, CoD: easy games, no brain needed to play, whiny pre-teens cursing, wannabe-elitists that wouldn't last 5 seconds in other games lecturing you, etc etc
Also, don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but Lineage 2 communities tend to be over the top competitive.
This is what you sound like right now. :lol:lol @ people saying League of Lamers is hard. You've never played DotA, have you? LoL is basically a dumbed down, casualised version of DotA.

Agreed.
All of them.
Online games in general (from WoW, to CSS to CoD to racing games) all have brutally competative community.
There's jerks in all online games. Shooters are most known for having terrible communities, but there's someone looking for trouble no matter where you go. Even Minecraft is full of people like that (griefers deserve capital punishment. :x)
brickdoctor
Hes asking about level of competitiveness not how many jerks there are in a game, :)

Meh I think they are about equal, but I think due to leaver % you end up enduring the rage for alot longer in HON.
It would have to be something like Arma 2 as they have "training" sessions and perform tactical formations etc..
counter strike imo. i remember a sc player getting tab by a knife on the head cause he cheated. god that was messed up :?
