... will be:

Little Big Planet 2

LA Noire

Portal 2

Skyrim

Dark Souls

Gears of War 3

Uncharted 3

Batman Arkham City

The Witcher 2

Deus Ex Human Revolutions

I feel the only big games I left out that might just get nominated are Dead Space 2 and of course Shogun: Total War. But I think Human Revolution will be placed ahead of them because wierdly, FPS's are underrepresented here.

The other ten nominations for the fan vote will be: Dirt 3, Battlefield 3, MW3, Crysis 2, Resistance 3, Mortal Kombat, Saints Row 3, Forza 4, Dead Space 2, Shogun II.

If I got any part of my lists wrong, I will eat Oprah Winfrey.

Seems pretty accurate. But I don't think Dues Ex will be nominated.

I feel like they should still nominate skyward sword even its just to show they have some representation for the wii even if they have no intention of allowing it to win and many other GS writer may very well believe SS is GOTY material this is GS GOTY not Tom mcshea GOTY

No, it won't. There are a bajillion other games that also flopped here at GS (BF3, Killzone 3, Forza 4) but they at least still got 8.5s, which is a full 1 point higher.

Doesn't matter to me what they nominate. I just want to see people blow up over their game not getting picked.

its gonna be either batman arkham city, uncharted 3, or skyrim, thats it but i think arkham city will take home the gold, i mean for once we get an awesome superhero game out of all theese years, we have been waiting yearssss for a good comic game so i think it will win just on that fact alone.

Fine, then inFamous 2 should be nominated as well. :x

Reviewers consult each other before they publish the score. It's the website's score, not just Tom McShea's. There's a reason his reviews are published on the site: He is part of it.

By your logic, Gamespot should publish multiple reviews for one game, each one by a different reviewer. It just doesn't work that way, because then their would be no point to the site. Reviewers would just break up and create their own websites.

SS should be in the user's choice thing. And Deus Ex should be in that category because it's one of the best RPGs this year.

Agreed they will in no way leave the wii not represented and I doubt it will be xenoblade due to it not releasing in NA so my guess is SS will end up being nominated even if it has no chance of winning

I'll be pretty upset if Dead Space 2 doesn't get nominated. It's singleplayer was superbly paced and Isaac was an awesome protagonist this time around.

It isn't about representing consoles. It's about nominating the best games of the year, then picking the best one out of them. According to GameSpot, Wii had no good games this year. Therefore, it will remain unrepresented.

Yeah according to GS but you must agree if GS chooses not to nominate a single Nintendo game because in there opinion they didnt release any great games this year doesn't chane the fact that many will call them anti Nintendo

But. It. Got. A. 7.5.

It is merely "good" while the others are "superd" and "great". It doesn't matter whether the Wii is represnted or not. Skyward Sword might be put in the extended GOTY list for the voters. But that's it. Wii just had no games that compare to the others this year.

If a console has no superb games, why should it get represented? It deserves to get left out.

Sheep will call them Anti Nintendo. Hermits will probably be busy making noise about Shogun or Witcher 2 not winning best graphics or something. And Lems and Cows will be concerned with what game actually wins GOTY.

We still have to see how much they will give Minecraft. This game looks like it could go somewhere with awards now that it is officially an actual retail game.

Then why even have scores? Why not just get rid of them? The score 7.5 was given for a reason: GS deemed it not as good as the other games on the list. Game of the Year isn't given to the best score, but it is definitely given to a good game.

And the only times a higher score game has been beaten out by a lower score game was in 2009 and 2010. But RDR and Demon's Soul got 9.5 and 9.0 respectively, not 7.5.

Not gonna happen the only two games that are GOTY with less than 9.0 are from the age of PC/Console awards (Everquest:8.4, Serious Sam TFE: 8.9)

There's virtually no way it's gonna happen with a 7.5 game. Hell not even WiiGOTY.

The score 7.5 reflects GameSpot, the website's, opinion. On Metacritic, it goes down as "GameSpot: 75" not "Tom McShea: 75". Like I said earlier, why even have the website if you're going to gripe about it being one guy's opinion? Why don't reviewers just go and make up their own websites?

So who has the final say?

The staff takes votes based on their favorite game of the year. I think Kevin Van Ord rules the roost up there and he will probably enforce his will on the others, so expect Dark Souls to be victorious.

True the score is decided by all the staff, but not based on their opinions of the game but based on the tone of the review so that the score doesn't contradict the review. Don't quote me on it but I remember a quote by the guy doing the walkthrough for the game stating he has run into the same problems but it didn't affect him much and he would easily give it an 8.5 (maybe higher).

I think SS will no doubt get nominated.

So it will come down to "Do we nominate Skyward Sword, which we gave 7.5, or should we nominate Shogun II, Witcher 2, or Dead Space 2?"

Those last three got 9s here (on PS3 for Dead Space). Now which would be a bigger snub: Leaving out games that GS deemed "SUPERB" for a game deemed "GOOD" or leaving out a game deemed "GOOD" for a game deemed "SUPERB"??????????????

And if other staff have higher opinions, then they probably do the same for other games. What if Kevin van Ord is the only one who think Dark Souls deserves a 9.5, and the rest think it deserves a 10? You could make your argument for any game.

its gonna be either batman arkham city, uncharted 3, or skyrim, thats it but i think arkham city will take home the gold, i mean for once we get an awesome superhero game out of all theese years, we have been waiting yearssss for a good comic game so i think it will win just on that fact alone.

ThaGameDude
arkham asylum scores.5 below arkham city you know. I haven't been waiting years for a great super hero game because 2009 gave me the first arkham. It was my goty that year.

You can. Other reviewers might think SS is way better than Dead Space 2, and maybe the rest of the staff think Dark souls is an 8 at best. Game of the year awards are never predictable only in what gets nominated and with SS which is one of the biggest games of the year second highest meta score of the year that the majority believe to be gaming at it's best, I doubt one mans opinion of the game out of all the staff will keep it from being nominated.

But it isn't one man's opinion. Once that review gets published, it is Gamespot's opinion. People don't say "That one reviewer from GS gave it a 7.5" they say "GS gave it a 7.5"

If the staff had really disagreed that strongly with McShea, that review would not have been put out. Why would Gamespot publish something they don't agree with?

On topic: imo, no. Zelda does not get a "sympathy" nod in order to represent the Wii. Some are saying " it won't win, bust just to give it a nomination"? Why should anything that doesn't have a chance at winning deserve a nomination? Zelda fans gotta get real with the score it has here, play it love it, if they in fact do, and stop thinking ,Zelda or ninty get a mercy ballot because of the series place in gaming culture.

not really, if tom was able to back up his 7.5 well enough they would have let it go... and he had some points.

Agreed. Zelda wont be nominated since it scored so low but Nintendo doesn't need a symphathy vote because Xenoblade Chronicles scored a 9.0 and deserves a nomination as much as any other AAA rated game on GS this year.

Do some of you Sheep really believe that Gamespot, who are always ruthless to the Wii, would give SS a freaking sympathy nom, and leave out a really good game just as a way of an small apology? Ridiculous.
