Games radar posted this article about what the reviews will say, (sorry if old) with both the good and the bad. the bad almost seem to outweigh the good??? thoughts?

http://www.gamesradar.com/f/killzone-2-what-the-reviews-will-say/a-2009010616181421045

-------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------

the Good:

• Graphics wh**** will love it – Whether it's the brooding oppression brought by the lightning-scorched sky, the impressive smoke and dust effects or the startling enemy animation; the game is sometimes jarringly bleak but always darkly beautiful… but it's still a bit brown.

•The cover system works brilliantly - It's definitely the game's most successful mechanic. Similar to the system used in PC shooter FEAR, it works by holding L2 while pressed up against objects in the environment and then peering over or around to shoot things with the analogue stick and R2. Hiding behind cover and popping up to bring the hurt to the Helghast reminds us of playing a particularly bleak version of Time Crisis. And it provides a welcome tactical and methodical edge to Killzone's firefights.

• The motion controls don't feel forced – Yep, as hard as it is to believe that statement, the motion controls in the game work fairly well. They're simple and feel pleasingly responsive, reminding us of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption's excellent switch flipping sections.

• It's got a brilliant flamethrower – Better than the one in Halo 3 or Dead Space or any game we can think of actually, Guerrilla's flame-grilling weapon extraordinaire is perfect for barbecuing baddies. It's not only fun to see the Helghast burn like evil s'mores, but the gun's rapid, incisive flames and impressive range makes it consistently engaging to fire.

• The viewpoint is incredibly immersive – From the reload animations, the way your gun rests on obstacles - rather than passing through them - or the way your hands desperately cling onto the rungs of ladders, you always feel like you're in the shoes of an actual person, rather than a disembodied gun.

---------------------------------------------------------------

The bad:

The objectivesBlow up communication towers, plant explosive charges, defend Johnny Useless team-mate, Guerrilla have more brutally killed the box rather than thought outside it for most of the game's objectives.

• The level designWhile levels are fairly linear in the way they're laid out, usually offering clear, channelled progression, we still got lost quite a bit. Pressing up on the d-pad points you in the right direction, but, if level design were clearer, you'd naturally know where to go.

• Your AI team-mates – Aside from enjoying running in front of your gun, getting shot and needing to be constantly revived, your team-mates constantly grate by dropping relentlessly tiresome F bombs.

A lack of memorable set pieces – The first five levels feel like a bit of a slog at times, with many trench fights or pitched battles in city squares. The pacing just can't match something like Half-Life 2 and, as a result, the action gets tedious at times.

• It's very 'gamey'Many battles with the Helghast end with you having to trigger some sort of event - like having to walk to a certain point to activate a new stream of enemies or a new setpiece. It's all a bit entrenched in contrived game logic. That, and the story is a load of clichéd sci-fi pap.

Anyone else find the idea of a games media outlet predicting the content of next months reviews for a game a little... odd?

I would assume they would have some valid points based off the preview code, but at the same time, it does stink of fishing for hits.

It actually just seems like a standard preview, except they've actually put negatives in it. Frankly, I wish all previews did this, rather than the overly-praising ones most sites hand out.

I wouldnt say they are bad, but they are bog-standard game mechanics and i guess everyone expected more from something as big as KZ2.

Oh dont get me wrong, as a preview it works great, and i agree that jouranists shouldnt be afraid to put in the negatives in a preview if it looks likely that they wont be changed in the final product.

Unfortunately, the title and wording of the article negates that. A simple preview for Killzone 2 probably wouldnt net too many hits at this point, hence my skeptisism (sp?) in my first post.

What? FEAR had a cover system and I haven't noticed it despite the fact that I played the game three times?:|

heh. i am wondering the same thing. i finished FEAR, but i dont ever remember there being a cover system.

You have to remember that most console FPS dont have lean options or use third person cover, so i suppose the guy who wrote this is a console only gamer.

Anyway Medal of Honor Airborne had a system like this were you had to get close to a wall you pressed a button to hug it and you could peak around corners or above walls with the movement keys.

Doesn't suprise me to see this, after all they had already reviewed the game after E3 and gave it a 6.

The only legit reason to criticize from that list is "generic objectives". Everything else is pretty much nit-picking. Still, it may sway some reviewer's "tilt". Also, don't forget that this is only the SP. MP will be the GREAT contributor to the lasting value and quality of the game. Think about it: if CoD4/WaW, Gears 1&2, and R2 didn't have MPs, they'd receive AA-A across the boards.

Swearing: not a problem, it happens in RL ffs. Level Design: sounds like Halo 3, good enough. Objectives: it's an FPS, no1 is expecting HL2 here, its gameplay we want and online is where it's at. Set-pieces and triggers: i'll wait and see for myself but so long as the SP is solid enough I won't care for set-pieces much. If it's samey then it's no loss with co-op.

look what i scavenged.....

Killzone 2 - PS3
Eric Bratcher

Finally, a PS3 game worthy of the "Killzone" name! Just be glad the name isn't "Resistance" or "Gears of War", because then this would totally fall short. It's boring, from the all-gray graphics to the level design (hey, another warehouse!) to the set pieces, which involve such exciting things as blowing up a small bridge or opening a very large door with a hand crank. Yes, it's chaotic like a real war zone, but being a poor man's Call of Duty just isn't going to cut it.
Score: 6

....my...god....there goes their credibility...

And they gave Far Cry 2 an 8......But at least they gave Resistance 2 a decent score.

ahhh, more affirmation that my thoughts re: the beta are shared by others.

can't wait until the reviews hit and some cows around here get their humble pie.
