Perhaps the 3DS really will make it out the door by November. I'm impressed by Nintendo's quick turnaround.
I can't believe they released the XL for such a high price point with full knowledge that they'd release a successor console that essentially made it outdated the exact same year. Oh well, the final revelation is only 12 days away. Expecting a $250 price point even more if true because the DS price cut has only just gone into effect this month. Another DS price cut in 2 months would be way too soon.
But if it is $200, then I think XL owners got screwed.

Well Nintendo did release the Gameboy Advance Micro a year after the DS at around the same price.
They know how much its going to sell and manufacture the right amount.
Well, I guess they've learned from their mistakes now and won't re-release old hardware after making a new system... but still, I think it was a bit of a different scenario. the DS was $149, Micro was $99. Most people by then were more interested in buying a backwards compatible DS, so of course Micro bombed... something that rarely happens to Nintendo handhelds. The XL, on the other hand, was released for $189 earlier this year. Will Nintendo really put out a 3DS this November for $199? In my opinion that would be a real kick in the chops to XL owners, but that's just my opinion. I'm not even one of them. XL owners made the choice to get the system and will ultimately have to get the next one if they want to keep receiving software for their handheld. Nintendo's banking on them doing it again, I'm sure.
It's not the fact that Ninty is replacing the DS that irks me, because upgrades and new systems are a good thing. It's the fact that Ninty charged so much for the XL only to immediately make the system basically outdated. But! I'm speaking ahead of myself. This rumor might be false and the 3DS might not even launch this year.
