I think most people are aware that Steam is usually only better with regards to their sale prices.

So how about comparing the new prices? Like how you get a new game with Steam. And then steam has sales that blow gamestop out of the water.

Gamestop are pretty expensive, however, Steam isn't all that great outside of their sales. Yes, there are a few cheaper games, but they can probably be found cheaper elsewhere.

I don't think it's very fair to compare the price of used games to downloads. Valve doesn't really set the price for these games, it's the publishers. As if they're going to make the download cheaper. Regardless, the prices when steam has sales beat the crap out of Gamestop. And soon enough games like GTA Vice City wont even be sold at Gamestop.

James161324

They actually did for PC on their DD service, but that is besides the point.

In regards to the OP: Either you are grasping for straws, or you just have no idea why people buy games on Steam.

PS:Can you buy Singularity at Gamestop for $10?

lundy86_4

And that's why you buy during sales. There are sales every week, and it's not that hard to find a game worth buying on Steam. Gamestop, on the other hand, only has a real sale once in a while, and even then, most of them suck compared to how much you can save elsewhere. The big sales are the only ones that get my attention.

Gamestop's better deals on average gives you more choice in when and what you want to get. With steam I'm forced to buy whatever is currently on sale.

So, you go from criticizing my post to "And that's why you buy during sales"? Interesting.

Sales have even gone daily on Steam (which is ****ing great), but like I said, they aren't great outside of them. The reason boils down to mostly publishers having a huge say over the pricing. It's not strictly Valve's fault. However, you can certainly find many older games for dirt cheap (like pretty much all places, brick and mortar included).

It's fine if you expect to play a handful of new titles per month, but I don't see any point to subscribe if you're looking for MP/older games.

No matter how you look at it Game stop will always suck, compared to Steam, compared to your local indie-game store, even compared to places like Best Buy and Target.

Might be true in the states, but PC games here (when bought off of Steam) are normally $50 cheaper than the console/retail versions. Regardless of whether or not they are used or new.

It is fair because I can go out and buy a used copy of a console game while I can't with PC games. [

Let me rephrase that. Complaining that downloadable games are more expensive than used copies makes about as much sense as complaining about new copies being more expensive than used.

It's a given that used will be cheaper. It's unreasonable to expect new to be cheaper.

Gamestop hardly has sales, and almost never are they better than those of other retailers, which themselves can't match Steam's sales most of the time. Also, Steam tends to have more games on sale than Gamestop. I could go check the flyers right now and see that most, if not all, retailers beat Gamestop's prices -- but that's not saying much, as most of Gamestop's advertised games are at regular price.

Explain? Gamestop has a ton of deals, add in the powerup card and it's hard to beat for used games. New games are the same price regardless.

Are those used prices? Steam doesn't give me USED games, and their deals absolutely stomp those into the ground. I don't have to leave the house and it's downloaded in no time. Gamestop is a smelly cesspool of filth.

Overall gamestop can end up being alot cheaper just depends how you use the two services.
