Gaming computers are cheaper than you think

To many people a computer is a required item to have in their house. People are going to spend at least $500 on a computer just for non gaming use. So if they skip out on getting a console then theres another $400-$500 they could spend on their pc to make it play games. That could be a $1000 gaming computer they could have compared to getting a gaming console for $500. Then theres cheaper digital games.

So yeah if people think short term and buy that $500 computer then a $1000 gaming pc may seem expensive. Looking at it long term, pc gaming is cheaper. 

Why dont most people think that way? They dont include that $1000 tv into the cost of their consoles. They forget that you should not include that $500 you would have spent on a non gaming computer anyways. 

Not everybody needs a desktop. If you include gaming laptops, then you may have a point. Though, those get rather expensive.

Console gaming is indeed far more expensive than people here would lead you to believe. The argument always depends on constructing this unrealistic scenario where you not only buy a single console and no PC at all, but you strip that console to the bare minimum. That is no online multiplayer (which doubles the base cost of a launch console over the generation), no additional peripherals, no games, etc. I can guarantee that there is not a single console gamer that fits this criteria.

The sooner that we accept the following facts, the better:

1) Gaming is an expensive hobby regardless of the platform you're playing on.

2) Consoles make gaming an even more expensive hobby. (A gaming PC is a hell of a lot less expensive than a gaming PC + Microsoft console + Sony console, which is what I've been having to maintain just to not miss out on any games.)
