It is expensive. I honestly can't afford to keep up with it anymore, so I'm going to try to only buy 2-4 games per year but it's going to be tough. I have other needs that I need to take care of, gaming can be put on hold. Also Canadian prices are annoying, everything is cheaper in the states then it is here in Canada land.HaziqonfireYes if they are $60 new in USA and $80 new in Canada, and 60USD=64CAD games are overpriced in canada.
You also get the most value from it, IMO.
You don't need to own every console, seriously. I have a 360, and DS. Wii came free with my cell phone contract.
Sure you can buy a DVD player, new movies are £10 still. For 2 hours that's pretty crappy value, depending on how much you play your video games.
you dont need that pc , ,im sorry, not any more ,, maybe back in 98-2004 , the golden age of pc gaming
but nowmost of the stuff pc gets is ported to or from console ,
and the 2 handheld thing is out ragios youdont need them maybe 1
also , one main console for your 3rd party and 1 for first typically the wii and whos ever you chose next
i own all 3 but i did not buy them all at once thats another question
are you buyign them all at once .

Yes, you DO need a pc. Starcraft II, Diablo 3, World of Warcraft and Crysis alone are worth getting a pc.
yep
i've spent close to $4000 on games alone since the beginning of 2007

So you spend around 100$ / month on gaming, it's not much, relatively speaking.
PC doesn't cost $500. It cost probably $1000 - 2000 if you want a decent PC :|NerubianWeaverI have a quad core Q6600, an 8800gt, 4gb's of Ram and a pc power and cooling 650W PSU that i build 2,5 years ago for $900 it still plays games like Bad company 2, Borderlands Resident evil 5 and in fact vast majority of games at 1440x900 on my 19" monitor at high settings with better Fps than consoles and usually with 2 or 4xAA and parts are becoming cheaper each year ( you can build something better nowdays with $600-700)

Pc gaming its much more accesible nowdays ( sure not as much as consoles but anyone who wants to get into pc gaming can easily do it )

Actually even prebuilts are cheaper then the projected price you just said.. I saw a $900 laptop at Bestbuy for instance that basically had every component to play eveyr game out there including Crysis at high to max setttings..

I'm planning to order a prebuilt too in Best but. It will cost me almost $1300 though :DWell you honeslty shouldn't order a prebuilt from bestbuy desktop.. There are better deals other places. The only reason why I mentioned this is because it was a freaking beast..

Ridiculously powerful for a laptop at that price.. Has a GTX 360m in it..
To be able to play all games this gen you'd need
That doesn't include such platforms as the iphone either. PLUS you have all the hidden costs (Online, controllers, etc.) Compared to the other forms of entertainment gaming is EXPENSIVE. I can buy a $30 DVD player and be able to watch EVERY movie that comes out or spend $30 a month on cable TV and still only spend $1800 in five years. I dunno i was just adding up all i've spent on gaming over the years and it easily is well over 10x what i've spent on any otherform of entertainment and i don't even buy that many games really!
you don't need all systems. and if your only home entertainment is gaming, you can live without a TV, buy a full HD monitor instead and save lots of $$$. you can still watch some DVD/bluray movies on your HD monitor with a PC or a console. then only buy games that are worth the money or that you really want, and wait for price drops if they are single player games. i got civilization 4 complete edition a while ago for something like $10, it's hundreds of hours worth of replay value with mods. if you're a fan you could probably spend 100 hours on the fall from heaven 2 mod alone. i don't know another hobby that can offer that much for the same price. you can buy any book and enjoy it, you can buy any DVD player and enjoy every movie, you can buy any TV and subscribe to a cable, dish service and enjoy every channel but to enjoy every game out there you have to buy every platform out there. Seems kinda ridiculous when you think about it.2000? Either you have way too much free time or you are one hell of a collector.Gaming is indeed an expensive hobby, I've easily spent over £2000 on my PS3 alone in two years, mainly because games are expensive, but I can't stop buying them.

Well when I paid for my PS3 it cost me £400 with a game and since then I've bought around 40 games, a ton of PSN games and a ton of accessories. Bear in mind that the accessories are expensive and games are usually around £40. The problem is that I actually don't have enough time to play them since I've got so many unfinished games, doesn't stop me from buying more though. Also, I am somewhat of a collector since I have never sold a game and love looking at all of my old ones.
Good luck playing The Witcher, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Stalker(Pripyat, Clear Sky, and SoC), Cryostasis, Company of Heroes, Starcraft 2, Dawn of War 2, World in Conflict, Killing Floor, Gothic 1/2/3, Penumbra, Shattered Horizon, Torchlight, Empire: Total War, Sims 3, and many other games on your consoles. Why do consolites spout crap like this?you dont need that pc , ,im sorry, not any more ,, maybe back in 98-2004 , the golden age of pc gaming
but nowmost of the stuff pc gets is ported to or from console ,

Gaming is the cheapest form of entertainment.
Except if you play soccer with a tin can out of the trash.

Awesome post. I agree. I know what I need. And I need the PC more then any of the consoles.
Honestly, GAMING IS RIDICULOUSLY CHEAP. Anyone who says otherwise is poor. Hell, I'm only 15 and I can play games all year around easily.dkjestrup
It sure is cheap when mom and dad support you. Wish I was 15. Enjoy the naivety! You can't ever get it back.
