Gears might actually Hurt MS in the Long run..

So I must say, that im still wanting more graphically awesome games. Honestly I think microsoft might have actually hurt themselves by releasing Gears of war.  Because think about it.. Gears of war truely looks next gen and looks absolutly amazing but the only problem is.. Its the only 360 game that truely looks amazing.  I mean look at the reactions for the recent Halo 3 vids, you hear a lot of people saying "Halo 3 looks ok but definitly not as good as gears" lets face it, Gears has spoiled us gamers in the graphics department and we expect all games to be on par with it. But unfortunatly MS just cant afford for all games to look just as good. So when is the next game that will really shine and truely look next gen?!

I mean from now on when a game is released, the first game people will compare it to graphically is gears.. Lately all ive heard is "such and such game looks ok.. but definitly not as good as gears" I mean Gears has raised the standard on how games should look and if more games come out looking like polished xbox games (forza and halo comes to mind) then gamers might find themselves more disappointed

well think about it like real life.. In real life, people might say "but looks dont matter i just want a nice guy/girl" but in the long run, looks do matter and people want someone thats physically attractive. No different with games 

How does Gears being a trilogy hurt MS? Halo is still going to sell like crazy, and there are plenty of other great looking games for people who obsess over graphics. Vyse_The_Daring

Oh financially it wont hurt MS, i didnt mean financially. But i mean for other games not living up to those quality grahpics, I mean when I played the Forza demo I started to laugh actually lol i mean it might be a good game with depth but the grahpics where a joke. Now the only game i can say that impresses me as much as gears was the Area 51 demo, that was tight

I dont hate MS, just upset by them charging for too much crap lately.. Gears maps, halo maps etc. and besides everyone is hating on the PS3, someone has to point out Microsofts flaws

Halo 3 has better textures than Gears actually but the not so compressed wide open area's and bad rock textures sorta undermind them in a sense.  Everything but the rock textures so far are better than gears of war textures so if they can fix the rocks then the game will look a lot better imo.

Obviously Halo 3 has a long way to go, but I think we can expect something which looks technically more impressive then Gears of War. Halo's crisp, vibrant art styl3 (damn Gamespot's forbidden errors) also sets it at a disadvantage, as realism is typically more impressive then what Halo has to offer. Technically the textures are currently more impressive across the board though.

You know what I mean, a game can be successful without being mainstream.  What I ment is a game like Gears that is hyped to high heaven and everyone buys it and many just cause its so hyped.

The only reason why Sony has charged for anything is because they don't have a large enough base to do so in the first place. Once their base increase, so will the pay as you go approach quickly becomes adopted (home will add into that as well as game devs selling more maps via the PSN overtime.

The other reason why is simple, they don't have any games worth buying anything for in the first place. So enjoy your freedom with the ps3, it won't last long as the 1Q of 2008 should see Sony hit 10M, and that's when you will be charged and charged and charged.

But remember, you don't have to buy anything if you don't want to so get over it!

Umm Watch the vids on gametrailers in HD. Halo 3 looks fine.

Also Halo had to compete with great graphics like NG and DOA. Riddick and Splinter Cell. Didn't hurt it one bit I'd say.

Halo 3 is in its Beta stage people, Gears is complete. This is stupid. And BTW, Gear's multiplayer sucks, so it will NEVER be greater than Halo. Im sorry

What? Did you watch any of the videos of the beta? The lighting and textures are what make the Beta stand out. And the water of course. Dont know about the animations, but they definitely improved the rag-doll

You dont know that, its diffrent for every developer.  There is still atleast 5-6 months left till release so they have plenty of time to change many things in the game.

Visually, the demo is everything that it should be, considering the quality seen in the announcement teaser from E3 2006. While the game is technically in pre-Alpha with presumably a year left in development, the single-player footage looks incredible, so much so that it might make some people say "Gears of Huh?"

Exactly! Thats why Epic are such great devs, hell I would go as far as to say the Multiplayer in Gears looks a tad better than the Single Player in my opinion
