Another example of pathetic developers looking to cash in instead of releasing a game that is actually finished.

The online portion is nothing short of borken. Unbalanced weapons, lag, server connection issues, and matchmaking issues just to name a few problems.

Now we have to wait 3-6 months for a patch? Are you joking me?

Gears 2 is awesome, but the matchmaking IS broken. However the actual gameplay works fine, it's vastly improved from Gears 1.

do you even have Gears? Two patches were released already to improve matchmaking.

And btw you realize that your entire arguement rest on your personal interpretation of what 'balanced' weapon means?

I think this thread is the rushed pile of poo.

I'm mainly a single player gamer, so all these Gears 2 complaints don't have much relevance to my type of gamer.

but the fun factor has been thrown OUT...the shotgun is useless and broken, all people do is chainsaw and throwing nades...the gameplay feels heavy and slow, running and hitting a wall, makes you stick to to (very annoying), Sniping is broken (missed many head shots, even tho i hit them), Chainsaw is overpowered etc etc. Epic tried to hard to make things look different, for it to be a GOOD sequel, but in the end to much was changed, the stuff that originally made it fun. They didn't need to screw up the shotty, just add stopping power...but NOOOOO, they make it so dam SLOW and useless it isn't funny. Gears 1 felt quick in your face action, Gears 2 feels like a clunky meaty action...that has no fun in it. IMO.

Don't get me started on MM and lag issues...gsus.

Weapons are fine, everyone complained about the chainsaw not working last time, now it works, everyone hates. Lag? Not there fault. Connection issues ... again, not there fault. Matchmaking is poor, very poor, although it was updated like last week, it's slightly better

Lag isn't their fault? Connection issues isn't their fault? WTF? I hate people that post without actually playing the game.

The chainsaw is fine, but when you shoot someone they can still chainsaw you, unless you shoot them with the lancer. The chainsaw should lower when you shoot them with any weapon like in Gears 1. I don't have any other problems with the game.

It's definately changed, and I suppose people who loved the first one will be annoyed. It feels much better to me though, last time was either dudes run straight at you to leap around with the shotgun, or down you half a map away with a single sniper shot.... The whole medium range machine guns, cover, grenades and chainsaws from the single player seemed completely absent from multi.... Gears 2 multi is what I always wanted the first one to be, now if they'd just fix the dam matchmaking!!!

The chainsaw took skill in the first game, timing it right etc, now you just walk up to someone and chainsaw away, even if you get shot with a shotty at close range you still get the kill....its pathetic. People who complained about the first game simply sucked.

match making speeds improved. They didnt fix all the issues, but they show that Epic is actively working on MM issues.

Gears is probably the most overrated, useless franchise of this generation. The only reason anyone even gave a look at the first game was due to the graphics. The gameplay is stale, repetitive, and boring (and not to mention a rip-off of that game KillSwitch - Epic couldn't even come up with their *own* boring gameplay, they had to steal it). So while I can't stand Gears for a different reason, I agree. It is one big pile of ****.

The weapons are unbalanced. Frags have an instant detonation if they're tagged on a wall and a huge blast radius, Inks are fine, and smokes lead to too many glitches. A stunning effect like the first game had with frags would've been nice, instead of the glitched ragdoll effects that the smoke has. The Chainsaw is ridiculous. Pumping shotgun shots into someone at point-blank, but watching them chainsaw you anwyay, as well as the vortex that they added to help "make the chainsaw stronger" are ridiculously broken. Boomshot needs less ammunition to compensate for the increased damage and bigger blast radius. The shotgun is more or less balanced, needs some minor tweaks (range tweaks, host tweaks especially). The rest of the weapons just need some minor tweaks, nothing major that anyone could've really saw before release.

The lag is a huge issue that I'm hoping they resolve, XBL's P2P system is to blame for the most part. They need to switch host control to a player in the game though when the host leaves. It's really irritating to see the host disappear and the game just end, none of the stats recorded. Some glitches such as the boomshield glitch (which I use occasionally to mess with my friends/bots in private games), is entertaining but ridiculously cheap, as well as the standby-laggers who turn the game into a lagfest just so they can get cheap kills.

Lol, why...because its popular and COOL to pick on TOP games? Gears isn't just about graphics, the gameplay is some of the most addictive, intense and action packed formula created, expecially for online. The cover system is nailed and king, IMO. Maybe you should just stop and think, and realise that it's POPULAR because its simply that good and loved by many. The term overrated is something OVERUSED to bash on a game...i hate that word.

Great post. I agreed with everything you said. The Host advantage is insane in this game. The Hamerburst on host is amazingly cheap. All they had to do was give us dedicated servers, but they refused to do it even though UT3 had them. Another frustrating thing is not being able to chose the map and gametype you want to play in matchmaking. If I want to play the flashback maps in matchmaking, I have to deal with 6 gametypes when 4 of the 6 are intolerable.

I agree with you more and more. But if we would have said this stuff after launch day Lemmings would be all on your balls . Gears 2 is still fun. It's not godly fun like Gears 1 was.
