Anyway, as I recall they decided not to port Gears 2 because Gears 1 on the PC didn't perform well enough to make it worth it. vashkey

It didn't perform well because they did a lazy job at porting it and they did not fix any of the problems with the game.

They basically just put it out and left it as it was.

The problem lies with the point of view that pirates are viable consumers. It's difficult to show that 1 downloaded version is equal to 1 lost sale.

Piracy is definately a problem, though it is often scrutinized incorrectly.

Looks to be 50/50 for Gears 3, but Gears 2 looks to be never.

actually they never released the sales numbers for the pc version... they released it on pc as part of a deal with Microsoft..they wanted to convert pc gamers to the 360..

Microsoft to keep staggering PC and Xbox 360 releases

Microsoft Game Studios has said it will keep staggering PC and Xbox 360 releases so that desktop users have a reason to keep buying console titles.

Which is not to say the PC masterplan is any less important, argued MGS Europe business boss Peter Zetterberg - but given the platform choice in somewhere like Germany, then Xbox 360 sales would fall by the roadside.

"I would say that 90 per cent of the games that are pitched to us are on console. We're strongly perceived as a console publisher because we're the first-party publisher even though the Windows operating system is equally important to us," Zetterberg told GamesIndustry.biz.

"But in Germany for example, we want more gamers to buy our Xbox 360. If we launch a game that is on 360 and PC simultaneously, we basically shoot ourselves in the foot by allowing the German market to choose to play the PC version - because they are more likely to buy that than spend their money on the Xbox 360.

"If we launched a Halo game on PC and 360 in Germany simultaneously, 80 per cent of sales would be on the PC," he added.

Zetterberg also hinted that the future lies not just in projects with huge budgets, but in titles based around a free-to-play or browser-based model.

"We need to not only do the big budget, big production value, global titles like Gears of War, but we also need to go with titles like World of Goo or Crayon Physics. Those are games that are made with an almost anarchistic approach to a business model," said Zetterberg.

basically the thing with pc gaming is you can't create create an awesome SP campaign game and a weak multiplayer portion. I bet there are already torret files of starcraft 2 available but why will it be selling 10 million copies + all by the end of the year? Because the multiplayer portion which you NEED an original copy for is what characterizes the game. Gears had an awesome SP campaign but the multiplayer was extremely WEAKSAUCE. Why would people want to buy something like that online?

What better way to compete with steam is release gears of war 3 on pc also. This time announce that you are putting it out on pc. You guys have the best of both markets and you are losing ground to steam because you are so worried about your xbox 360. What is going to happen when you lose almost all of it. Steam is almost like you are to ps3 in the gaming market although on p.c. You are the top software company in the world and make tones on money do something useful with it. I don't think it would happen. I don't think it would be a clever thing to do, at least not with Gears 2. Gears 2 has little appeal to the PC market, it is an old game, has outdated graphics, a sequel to one of the worst ports ever released... it would be a dumb thing to do. I'd love to have Gears 3 in PC but if they do that they'll throw away the last great exclusive the Xbox has; everybody i know is jumping ship and buying a PS3 due to the feeling Xbox has no more games.

How do you get two-thirds of the Gears of War game?

Man, if both Alan Wake and Gears of War 3 came to the PC then that'd basically seal the deal for me to build a gaming PC. They're basically the only games that are keeping me from leaving the Xbox 360.

I agree. This is the most overrated new IP this gen IMO. That said, it is lame that the first one came to PC then the second one did not.

Sold my 360 so it would be cool if Gears 3 came to PC. But I can honestly live without it. I'm more concerned with Alan Wake 2 (if it's being made). I'd rather that come to PC.
