What do you think, if they can make another quality Gears of war game much like three...
ABSOLUTE YES!
It's the entire franchise that grossed $1 billion.
Gears 3, while being successful, will never hit that by itself.
It's only possible for a COD game to reach $1 billion in retail sales.
make it a X720 launch title.
CwlHeddwyn
I second this, but make it quality like Gears of war 1. But even superior IMO if it's possible.

Maybe the next one is a 100 hour shooter/RPG hybrid, they can now easilly fund that and double their team
Like Halo, Fable and Forza, Gears will definatly get more, games with 3 million sales in days dont get lost

The game is doing Halo numbers when Halo is at its sixth or seventh sequal. I can't even keep track anymore.

You have no idea how much MS would gloat if Gears 3 by itself topped $1 billion...
For a game to top 1 billion, it needs to sell 15 - 20 million in max a month (like COD), to ensure maximum profit before the game has been reduced in price in retail stores.
Gears 3 only sold 3 mln...
Everyone, watch out for:
Gears 4
Gears 5
Gears 6
Coming next gen, only for the Xbox 720.

Generally, that's still a lot. Especially when it's only on its third game and is not multiplatform. Hell, it makes it part of the big three. Which is Halo, CoD and Gears.
That's the franchise, not Gear 3 alone :?millerlight89

Well, that is not bad any way you see it, it is not Halo of course, but is the closest on 360, probably 20 million sales for all three in 1-2 years

Technically, it's out selling if you consider COD at its third game. Not to mention its multi-plat. :lol:The game is doing Halo numbers when Halo is at its sixth or seventh sequal. I can't even keep track anymore.

One billion dollers was made via the franchise after the promotion for Gears of war 3. The game itself didn't do such, the numerous products relating to the game grossed such.

It's the franchise as a whole (Gears, Gears 2, Gears 3 and likely any marketing products related to the franchise).
Linky 1
"pushing the franchise into the $1 billion earning bracket. This not only marks the first time an Xbox 360-exclusive franchise has crossed this marker, but also a current generation console franchise (Gears of War was released on 360, unlike Halo, which was released on Xbox)."
Linky 2
"the Gears of War franchise joins the elite ranks of only a select few game franchises to surpass one billion dollars in lifetime sales. Taking the milestone even further, Gears now stands as the first Xbox 360 exclusive franchise introduced this console generation to eclipse the billion dollar milestone."

I'm pretty sure quite a few series have hit the $1 billion milestone. Off the top of my head, Mario, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Halo, Grand Theft Auto, Need for Speed, Tetris, Call of Duty, FIFA, Madden, The Sims and Dragon Quest are game franchises that have all touched or crossed $1 billion in collective retail revenues. Games like Grand Theft Auto, Pokemon, Final Fantasy and FIFA often manage to gross that much in days with their successive releases.[QUOTE="SHATT3R3D-GLASS"][QUOTE="Bretter2200"]

No. They may cross that figure as a whole, but not in individual instalments... Not even GTA (which drops in price as time passes buy, and this is the reason).
Guitar Hero III reached 1 billion, but sales came from DLC and other "merchandise" for that game.
WoW also hit that easily, but figure comes from subscribers.
So far, only 2 games in history, Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops, have hit $1 billion in retail sales, from copies sold at retailers, and this is possible because it sells so extremely much in such a short time, maintaining the high price and maximizing the gains in sales.
Gears of War 3 can't do this, because 3 million in a week is too weak for such achievement.

I forgot about Guitar Hero and World of Warcraft. Regardless, my initial point stands- there are multiple franchises that have crossed the billion dollar barrier. I fail to see how having sequals makes Halo a POS. Btw, Halo 4 comes out next year, Halo 6 probobly wont be until 2016-2018 era. Also, you cannot make fun of Halo for its sequals, How many Final Fantasies and Marios and Zeldas are there?Time for a new IP Epic. Just go with "From the creators of Gears"
Seriously, we are already going to have Halo 6 in the future, don't turn Gears into a POS as well.

you forget that Cod is a multiplat over at least 4 or 5 platforms per release so theres a massive userbase in compparison to 1 console exclusive, its so hillarious your playing the numbers game without using any logic whatsoever.
Lol, this is WAY inaccurate.
This is based on vgchartz and NPD and it's basically ALL sales across the 3 x 60.
Which is NOT accurate. First off the VGChartz numbers are probably wrong.
Secondly, you cannot assume a 60 dollar price point for all sales of the game, speciallly after the first 1-3 months. Sales, specials, and a normal reduciton in price woudl affect this.
So basically what theya re really saying si that the franchise has, almost certinaly not reached a billion dollars in revennue, but it's up there.

2012 - Halo 4
That's 6 core games in 11 years.

1985 - Super Mario Bros.
1988 - Super Mario Bros. 2
1988 - Super Mario Bros. 3
1990 - Super Mario World
1995 - Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
1996 - Super Mario 64
2002 - Super Mario Sunshine
2007 - Super Mario Galaxy
2010 - Super Mario Galaxy 2
That's 9 core games in 26 years.
---
1986 - The Legend of Zelda

Now which one is milking again?
Yeah, zelda and mario only have 17 games between them when you forget to include 95% of the games they've titled.
Nintendo has like 5 mario titles slated for the 3ds to release in the next year.

It did, and Nintendo actually did inform us all. Its month one sales in Japan were 5 million. Its month one sales in the rest of the world were 7 million. Anyway, this is a moot point. Pokemon sells for $40 anyway, so even at 12 million units worth of sales, it could only have grossed $480 million. Please Log In to post.
