Your pointless :P you also complain alot about a game that has renowned multiplayer :P
So I guess that you and the multiplayer are kind of similar hey :p cause you both suck? I think Gears has some amazing multiplayer, which is to be expected from a great developer. Sooooo your opinion is flawed bud :p But in all honesty I just like the community that plays the game and I think its a major success for the 360xnorwaks
no, just no in everyway.
The game's design in single-player is excellent, the use of cover, everything. But when you decide to take it online, the game completely changes to something it was not built for--fastpaced close combat. The majority of firefights seen online are point blank shotgun battles, which become incredibly confusing as the game was not designed for such warfare. For example, to succesfully blow ur opponent to smithereens in one shot, your shot gun practially needs to be touching your enemy's body, any further away it make take up to 3 shot gun blasts to bring him down. In such cases, many players have already proven that pistol whipping is the most effective close combat technique, as one hit stuns you, and the next brings you to your knees.
The long range combat on multiplayer is equally messy, as the single-player game mechanics becomes the flaws of the multiplayer mode. The assault rifle is proven practially worthless by the game's damage toleration system. Utilizing cover and squeezing shots off at your enemy like you are meant to is futile, as your opponent can simply hide and recover from the damage.
I could go on about lack of game modes, weapons and maps but I don't think i'll get very far with a person who considers GeOW's multiplayer "amazing."

Yeah, but playing in unranked matches eliminates your complaint about achievement whores because the multiplayer achievements are only in ranked matches. Plus more people can hop into unranked matches if your team mates decide to leave.

I could not have put that any better

Me n my crew actually took ranked matches seriously. We wanted to keep the losses on our stats to a minimum.

I was about to jump a 10 feet story building one day in ranked. One game cheaters, and another A-holes. I rather go unranked with friends and so any day. Ranked and Unranked are very differentI tell you.
No, it is not competitive, there is a level of "randomness" that is an attempt to "even" the competition out and make the game more fun. The multiplayer is fun, that is what it was designed to be. If you want to play a competitive shooter, I suggest some Call of Duty or CS 1.6 on the PC.foxhound_fox
Yeah, it used to be fun and competative but now with all the glitchers and immature kids playing its...just...crappy. Hopefully by GeOW 2 they would have the online MP fixed.
I jumped into multiplayer, hoping for a true classic. After about 10 rounds of Shotgun blasts not hitting people right next to me, people tagging me from miles away, chainsaw animations glitching and people not dying after being chainsawed, I got very fed up. I carried on playing it, but aside from one game on canals where we all banned Shotgun use, I've never enjoyed a single game of Gears online. I can happily come in the top couple of players - I'm not crap - but it's just not really fun. I can't help but get the feeling that the people I kill have had shots straight at me that missed, and in a game that wasn't completely broken online, would have beaten me. It never feels fair, whether I win, lose or draw. There are glitches all over the place, the host advantage is truly sickening, the gametype selection (even with the lame domination gametype thrown in) is stupidly paltry, voice chat is sketchy at best (plug a mic into controller 2 and you used to be able to hear the other team talking during the game) and the code in terms of shots and weapon contact is laughable at best.
And I'm sorry but ANYONE that thinks Gears has a respectable community needs to be banned from breathing.
I loved the single player, but honestly the multiplayer is not competitive. There is no reason to play unranked games because you can not go down a rank, the more you play the higher you become ranked. On top of that people go crazy if you take a weapon they want just because they are trying to get some dumb achievement. This makes Gears of War barely competitive. The levels are also pretty bland. If you compare this game to halo 2 online its clear that Gears is just not worth playing, at-least if your looking for competitionPok3master

who cares, hundreds of thousands of gamers love online MP in GeOW. One kid wont make a difference. If you don't like it, don't play it.

Shotgun blasts can be direct. You have to angle it right. Think of an isoceles triangle jutting outward. People who shoot shotguns up close and hit nothing are n00bs who took no effort to measure their line of sight. (I practiced on a wall for instance)
Those other glitches do not desecrate the entire gaming experience. They remind me of the noisy teenagers who go to movies. It happens, it happens occasionally, but it does not destroy the entire movie-going experience. If it does, you are in a bad room and need to go to another one. Glitching (like permanent Roadie Run) and annoying players only amount to less than 10% of the time. Report the glitcher to the host and he will have no trouble booting that guy.Despite your very harsh critique, I would say there is still some level of honesty on there and most people want to play a straight game.

the multiplayer is fun, but glitches, host advantage, and bullet lag have ruined my experience. every game i play has at least some lag, and annoying glitchers. the host advantage is just incredible, their shots connect so much faster, so even if you pulled the trigger first, they will still hit you faster. the multiplayer is just so short of greatness, but technical problems have severly hurt the experience.
I killed four people when I was the last guy left. I was only able to do this with hiding. So I think it does add something to multiplayer. if this were Call of Duty with no cover, it's just mindless run and charge and circle strafing (although circle strafing does happen in GoW too)
Needless to say, my heart was thumping and I was shaking when I killed all four guys hunting me. I felt like Rambo that day and my Gamertag was sung to the highest mountaintops by shrill-voiced teens.
Tell me where else can excitement and lump-in-the-throat moments like that occur on a constant basis?
Yeah, I agree with the TC.
Flaws in MP: Bad networking, lack of modes, lack of costumization, bad balance, bad online setup, no normal partying up in a TEAM game.
Sure, if you don't take it seriously it's a fun game to play, but as I found it's still nowhere near halo 2's fun multiplayer. That is, after you've gotten over the wow factor. That's also why I was disappointed in GS for giving gears of war MP GOTY. It shows that you can get everything you want with some good graphics and hype. Rainbow six MP was far better.
You say theres no point to player matches. Well obviously you'd play them to either practice your skills or to have mindless fun. I don't call that pointless..
I think people have every right to pick up the weapons for these dumb achievements you like to call... well if you put it that way, getting rank points is even more dumb and pointless. Going through the singleplayer campaign is dumb and pointless.. Errr right..

idk Ive found it pretty competitive and fun, but I play game to game not for full rankings. I do agree they have their work cut out for them when it comes to online competition for Gears of War 2.

Player matches with friends though is always fun, and never do we argue with each other or complain about hogging weapons or other things.
