Gears of War: Merits for GOTY 2006

I recently bought Gears of War, PC. I've tried playing it with the K/Mouse and with the 360 controller.

I've come to the conclusion that it isn't a very good game. I actually feel it was worse than Unreal 2. I do not think it should of made GOTY in 2006. It should of been called Gears of Bore.

Please tell me why I'm wrong and what it brought to gaming in 2006 and hence its accolades as Game of the Year for Gamespot.

Quite frankly, I don't see anything great in this game. Enlighten me.

Can't enlighten you if you have already played and don't like it. This isn't faith we're dealing with.

It's way overrated. The multiplayer and single player both suck.

It's only good in co-op and it's not just good it's fanatstic. Try and find someone to play with

No it wasn't it failed to do what other rpgs of the day do like sidequests (eventhough the story is a step up from the other games)

its not an rpg, the main game was long enough, so side wuests werent a thing of length enhancers.

Also the side quests that are there are huge man, huge.

Nintendo promised a 50 hour single player but I beat it in far less. And the side quests like fishing, poes, the chicken thing, and the marble game at the fishing place weren't all that exciting.

Did you get the rupee armor?

All the golden bugs?

All the poes?

Personally I beat TP in 40 hours, without getting all the heart pieces, wallet upgrades, etc.

Oh cmon!! Cutting locusts with chainsaw is awesome fun atleast to me and the cover system did make things a lot more interesting with blindfiring and all I thought its a well deserving game apart from its length.
