Now comparison of these two games regarding their franchises would be wrong. Simply because Halo has been out for years and Gears of war recently came out last year. In franchise terms you can't compare a game that's been out since 2001 to a game that came out in 2006. The comparison is on a smaller level, ergo, the multiplayer.

I wanted to discuss the multiplayer because people have their own opinions about which is better in multiplayer. The ranked matches on both games are different. In Gears of war you can pick the map you want to play on. In Halo, it's random unless you veto it(which can only be used once)and end up sometimes with an even worse map. In gears of war if you're the host, you pick the map and you get host advantage over the others. In halo if you're the host you just pick the map/game. In gears of war, if you're not the host you get a lag which makes you shoot a second slower. In halo, there is no host advantage so there's no lag(Except for the occasional lag which rarely happens.) In gears you can have up to 8 players. In halo you can have up to 8 players in matchmaking and up to 16 in custom. In gears of war, there is no customization, only the ability to pick from several characters. In halo, there is customization where you can create how your character looks. In gears of war you have around 7 weapons and 2 different frags. In halo you have around 20 weapons, 4 frags, equipment and vehicles. In halo you can jump, in Gears you can roll and take cover. In halo you have crosshairs, in Gears you don't (unless you aim). The sniping in these two games are also different

So you see, these two games are very different in terms of multiplayer. Which multiplayer do you like better?

If I had to make a choice. I'd say Warhawk's 32player servers are better. Maps are huge as well.

I like halo better. There's no host advantage so noobs have no excuse when they get owned. There's more/better weapons. You can drive. There's no lag. There's customization. And the sniping is better. Halo is simply superior to gears in every way

I like Halo better in every way, except I wish it used servers so I could actually choose the map/game type that I want to play, rather than being limited to choosing from a few general categories and hoping to get the one I want

Same here. I perfer the tactical aspect aswell. Itactually take skill to kill someone in GeoW. In Halo 3, it really doesn't take skill to kill someone. I found myself at times just meleeing and sneaking up behind people to get most of my kills whichdidn't require any skill.I enjoyed Gears of War mutiplayer more than I did Hao 3. I also like the sniping better in Gears of War than I do Halo 3.

I like halo 3 better in every aspect. Especially because of (what you didn't mention) being able to join with a party to battle another party. I wonder why epic didn't put that in. That's insane.

Halo 3 is better by a landslide. Gears of War's game modes all feel the same and the ranked matches are pointless. Halo 3 has the content to keep me going.

Halo has a better multiplayer mode. What really bugs me is when you die in Gears of War. When you die, you're dead and you have to wait until the round is over. In Halo 3, you come back to life. It also isn' fun that gear's gameplay is slower than Halo's. Gears is more boring than Halo.

So shooting someone in the foot with a sniper and putting them down takes skill? And those luck of the draw shotgun dances take skill as well?

Gears has no tactical aspects. Just get out your shotgun and run to the center.

Gears of War is a good example of a game that required more tactics than skill while reverse that for halo 3.

I prefer infantry combat in Gears but I like the vehicles in Halo more. I'm just comparing the basic gameplay cause Halo dominates the other stuff like cusomization.

halo will always be the closest console shooter can get to pc shooters, in both single player and multiplayer.

i would say halo because the quality of the halo series mp has stood the test of time whereas gears online is almost dead

Gears of War is unbalanced, glitchy, laggy, has a poor interface, annoying game types and not enough players at once.

I played it a lot and had fun, but its not beause its good, more because chainsawing people and listening to them call you a noob for using the thing never gets old.

Halo 3 is a much better game and requires skill.

im going to say i like gears execution better hten anything on the halo 3's multiplayer but halo3's multiplayer is better then warzone, annex, and assasination (the mp in halo 3 is better then gears itself besides execution) also i like halo 3's campaign alot more then gear's campaign and i have to say halo3 >>>gears of war and ultimately halo 3 multiplayer >gears multiplayer (even though i like execution i hate the host advantage but i love playing it)

Gears of War multiplayer isn't really anything special and has it's share of problems, but that didn't stop me and my friend to play it for 10 months. Halo 3 has vastly superior online- customization, no-to little lag, more weapons, more modes, forge, custom game options, etc.

Well I think it's really a question of which sucks the least. And there I'd definitely say Halo3. Halo3 online has huge glaring flaws but at least you can have some amazing games custom games going with a group of friends. Matchmaking is pathetic though. Gears was just junk all around... I really don't get how people played that for more than a week. I guess it's just whatever the latest XBL shooter is the lemmings flock to it..... even if there's been better PC games for decades.

Halo 3 is a more polished, balanced, and enjoyable multiplayer experience compared to Gears of War. The game is also more accessible to new players and the default weapon kicks ass. Host Advantage in Halo 3 is present but its very minute since its easy to take down a player in a number of ways and the Host has to be a very very good player for the advantage to make any effect.

However, in shotgun duels you may be able to identify the host but not in sword duels (due to the balance). In other words, the game is more balanced this time around.

Gears takes team work, halo takes luck/knowing the tricks.

Most pick halo cause it's easy, how many people you know that like taking time to master a game, they all want it now, and halo 3 can give it to them in less than a week.

With gears of war, you need a good team that uses there mic to win most of the matches, which annoys people when they get put against a good team and they get the noobs.

They both have their flaws, but both can be fun, i'd say gears of war takes alittle bit more to master than halo, just cause you need to learn the right way of hip firing the shotgun, with halo mostly knowing the melee and a few other simple tricks that take less than a week to learn. If halo 3 was fast shooter i'd say that would take more skill, but halo 3 is a very slow shooter, meaning if someone is shooting you, you're dead 9 out of 10 times, but thats what makes it easy, unlike UT which is a fast shooter, meaning it takes skills to kill someone, not someone who is walking very slow all you have to do is hold the trigger down and shoot, cause he moves so slow that he will die most of the time.

I loved Gears of War, it's tactical intricacies and ambush hide and seek gameplay online with several friends for 5 months or so but...

Halo 3 thoroughly kicks the crap out of it in every way shape and form.

Halo 3 does take team work. When I play alone with 3 other random players, I have a 50 - 50 chance of winning. When I play with my friends against 4 other players, I have a 90 percent chance of winning (even against much higher ranks..... a testament to the balance in this game).

Don't know what "tricks" you are referring to since there are easy counter measures to everything in Halo 3 (except maybe the sniper rifle). If someone is shooting you, you are not always dead and this is where the shield kicks in since you can run and hide and lobby grenades. Happened to me many times. Oh, and theres also equipment, use the bubble shield.

For me I much prefer Halo 3's multiplayer, Gears had afew problems such as host advantage, and weapon balancing. The grenade tag annoyed me to. Halo has so many more multiplayer features, modes etc it is just the better multiplayer experience.

Having said that I much preferred Gears's single player campaign. I only hope they make GeoW2 a few chapters longer 7-8 instead of 5.

both are great, but Halo 3's multiplayer is much, much better. Gears of war consists of 4 game types (3 of which are eerily similar to each other), while Halo has a wide assortment of em'.

i agree with that.  i didn't really like gears until i got a group of friends together to play it online and you actually planned out your attack or basically you just had more people playing at your own skill level.  it does take more skill and it certainly means more when you lead your team to get the win.
but as far as which one i like better, halo 3 hands down.  gears does take a lot more work to get good at it but that's also because of its sole glaring flaw, the game mode is a train wreck for newbies.  how bad does it suck for someone new to try mulitplayer out for the first time and keeps getting killed, and has to wait until the match is over before they can respawn.  i'm shocked they haven't added any sort of free-for-all or slayer to gears - that's what kills it entirely.  i love a great group match, but having to wait until you get to play again, only to be the first one killed in your next match is by far and away the most frusterating thing people have to deal with it. halo is easier, yes - but it does give players the luxary of respawning and working on their game to improve again and again, which is why it'll have a much longer, enjoyable, and larger community than gears will have.
having said all that, i'm betting gears 2 will bring on the extra modes that make it more worthwhile.  but i can't wait for COD4, which i'm hearing great things about.Â
