You both got too be kidding me, the reason why they have host advantage is because the connection focuses only the host. DUH!!! Everyone should at least expect that, even though M$ hasn't admit it on public yet. Why do you think they added the splatter blood on the hosts screen everytime he or she get shot. Just host a game and see what I am talking about.
If theres only going to be 8 players, then you don't need dedicated servers if your getting more than 256k upstream/downstream unnetworked. My connection blows and I experience lag, but its so minor that it doesn't interupt or take away from the games enjoyment.Pro_wrestler
You miss the point of a dedicated server. You can host 64 player listen server if you have the computing power and broadband to do it if you will, but you will be the one with the biggest advantage. Of course the dedicated server uses less resources, but aside of that, it transmits packages equally between players, even if you host it on your neighbour computer.
0 ping on a dedicated server is not the same as 0 ping on a listen server. The host advantage on listen servers is just what is the overkill. Even if you have a player sitting next to you with 0 ping to your listen server he's going to be in disadvatage compared to you with the listen server. All the **** that the server does in listen mode is calculated around the client of the listen server, so he serves him first and serves only as good as the client runs (people connect with different pings and your CPU just can't handle the calculations needed for this while in client mode, so everyones packets get messed up, except yours, as you're the host, aside of that all the hardware issues you have while trying to push the frams to the limit has an impact on the listen serve), while the dedicated server, as said, serves everyone equally.
Ping advantage and disadvatage is history anyways now, at least in Europe. Games with good netcode play just as fine on 15, 30 or 60 pings - take Quake 3 (CPMA) as an example. Ofcourse if you have packetloss on some trace hops it's crap to play, but it has nothing to do with the game code, but with your bad connection to the server.
Listen servers should be abolished by now, they are crap and root of all evil.

they also released a free map like a month ago.
People, the Battlefield series is made by DICE!!!! NOT EA![QUOTE="GatoFeo"][QUOTE="Deihmos"][QUOTE="death1505921"]Never had a problem playing without dedicated servers. Just make sure your connection doesnt suck ass.Deihmos

I can host a dedicated sever from my home connection and play on another PC and I will have the lowest ping so wouldn't I have an advantage? Once everyone has a good connection the game will be fine and I played a few gears matches and I never had a problem killing the host.
Most people rent their servers from server farms and I don't know if many people will be willing to pay for 8 player servers. Epic did say they might it it later but I doubt they will.
Ignore the ping for a second, it's not all in the ping as I stated above. If you host a dedicated servers on your PC and run a client atop of it, you will still get served by the server the same way as someone who connects from some different place. Sure you will have a lower ping, but the server wont prioritize packets for you or for him, but serve both equally.
Atop of that, dedicated servers aren't ment to be run for 15 minutes a day by some random user. They are put on a server machine and run there 24/7, most of them don't even require you to have the original game bought, but you just download the server files and you're set. Usually the most popular servers are run by ISPs anyway, as they have the resources and bandwidth to host many game servers, same for speical dedicated server offering sites. But you can also find a lot of servers on some random company machines which work equally well.
But to set up a dedicated server on you home machine is nonsence aslong as you don't have one separate PC that only runs server things and a big enough badwidth to still be able to do your normal everyday downloading/browsing/playing on your other PC.
OK tell me this.Oh wow...
As a 360 owner I feel screwed, and now the snotty hermits who thought they had the best version, they're screwed now. Hmm, didn't expect this from Epic.

Prove to me the 360 version is superiour to the PC one.
Thus proving console fanboys know better than hermits.
If not, well the jokes on you

I think he was implying they will be more or less the same, not that one or the other is superior...Oh wow...

Hermits are screwed despite the fact they still get the version with extra content, better graphics, mod support and free online?
Their screwed because they share a disadvantage with the 360 version? Bottom line is, nobody is really screwed, Lemmings lose advantages to enjoy it earlier, Hermits gain advantages to get it later. This sort of shoddy display from Epic isn't something that should be used in fanboy politics, it should be something we all complain about.

Anything and everything is used as fanboy politics, nothing is spared. Particulally anything pertaining to a top-tier title like Gears.

'But were screwed now' :|
First off what's this segregation between console and PC?
Any smart PC owner would know better than to assume there would be dedicated server support especially when Microsoft is shipping it with Windows LIVE. I installed, and beat the PC version of Gears of War, and it was a very good experience. However, the multiplayer is non existant.
PC gaming is where FPS started. Heck put that aside, Gears of War isn't even a FPS. It's in a third person perspective the whole game, but they did an excellent job at making the game mechanics work from third person. Gears of War was initially created for PC but was grabbed by MS and turned into a console game. In my personal opinion? Pushing new release FPS or third person games to console is screwing the whole world of gaming. The joy of FPS games? Was to customize your gaming experience.
The multiplayer experience is ruined without dedicated servers. The least they could do in this situation is make finding games easier. The best solution is to revamp the MULTIPLAYER platformof Gears of War for X360 and PC. Allowing for dedicated servers, nullifying **** about latency. At that point it's connectivity related.
Don't get me wrong if I was a business Man? Microsoft has done everything right. How else do you get people to buy your console? Create a MP system that will almost be useless on anything other than your console. Gears of War is like a Flagship for them, it's a money maker and they know it.
Okay Console gaming. I love consoles, they push the gaming community forward, even more so now. However the graphics technology and the pure processing power are further progressed by the PC community. It's the foundation for the TRUE gaming experience. I've owned almost every console released, and they were not ever originally intended to play these kind of titles.
To close, hopefully MS and EPIC will open their eyes and actually say okay lets put out a dedicated server system. There currently is no MP community for Gears on PC, most likely if MS and epic wait much longer there never will be.
Later,
BiggM
