"both the GeForce 8800 GTX and GeForce 8800 GT were playable up to 2560x1600 NoAA/16XAF with maximum in-game settings"

"The GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB handled 1920x1200 NoAA/16X AF very well but tended to struggle as far as framerates go at 2560x1600. It seems the extra stream processors and texture capability the 8800 GT has made a big difference in this game, allowing 2560x1600 to be very playable"

Lame. 8800 GTS 320 MB can only run medium textures. That's not good.

WHat is the point of comparing the game to the 360 version? The PC is scalable hence you get better graphics depending on how much you are willing to spend on cpu, gpu and memory.

It seems the extra stream processors and texture capability the 8800 GT has made a big difference in this game, allowing 2560x1600 to be very playable. The Radeon HD 2900 XT also played well at 1920x1200, but you do have to keep that Texture Quality setting at "Medium."

WhySoCry

Fixed and linkified. They were only talking about DX9.

"The only video card in DX10 mode that had enough performance to enable 4X AA (DX10 On/Antialiasing) at 1600x1200 was the GeForce 8800 GTX...

The GeForce 8800 GT performed well in this game, but it just didn't have what it takes to enable 4X AA in Gears of War at 1600x1200. Though without AA, as you can see, performance is very high beating the 640 MB GeForce 8800 GTS. If you really want AA you can drop the resolution to 1280x1024 and then enable DX10 "On/Antialiasing" for 4X AA. The GeForce 8800 GT also allowed smooth gameplay at 1920x1200 without AA, in DX10. At 2560x1600 in DX10 mode though he GeForce 8800 GT did struggle at the highest game settings. If you lower some of the in-game settings, such as Texture Quality, Shadows and Post Processing then it would be playable at 2560x1600 with DX10 "On."

Wow, DX10 is truly amazing...

DX10 On = No Advantage

We are not sure exactly what turning on DX10 does, but we do know it causes a large performance drop on every video card. In our testing we found absolutely no image quality differences by turning this to "On." The only benefit was being able to use "On/Antialiasing" for 4X AA, but you need a very fast video card to use that setting. If you have a GeForce 8800 GTX/Ultra level video card you can enjoy that setting. But on the GeForce 8800 GT/GTS and Radeon HD 2900 XT you will have to sacrifice other in-game options or resolutions in order to use 4X AA. It is rather a shame because we noticed that 4X AA does improve the visual quality of this game in a noticeable way.

The game has to be programmed for DX10 for it to truly take advantage of the it. Apparently Gears is not very DX10 optimized.

Unreal III was not created for DX10. The engine started development sometime in 2003 I believe. Epic is jst trying to add it in and not doing a very good job at it.

You are right. It's just a tacked on DX10 functions and I don't see any difference. Crysis is the only true DX10 game. There is no performance loss in DX10 mode as a result.

DX10 provides no visual quality boost and is only useful for Anti-Aliasing. Unless you're freaking out because you hate jaggies, then dont worry about DX10. We are still in the first generation of DX10 so we have no idea what to do with it, but since its getting big in the gaming industry, developers are just willing to throw it in so that they make themselves look good, all while knowing we're just going to get mad later. And if any of you guys even say that the 360 version can compare to the PC version, turn off your PC, throw your 360 out the window, turn your PC back on and tell us how relieved you feel once you realized you were a console loving dickhead...

I was blown away with the GOW graphics on my 360, so the PC graphics on highest settings must be insane
