Does anyone think this game looks bad? I'm still amazed by it over almost 2 years after.

Gears of War set the standard for next-gen gaming. I'm still "wow'ed" by this game till this day. I've beaten the campaign mode over 10 times alone and countless times with co-op online. Sometimes, I play just to look and stare at the amazing graphics. This coming from someone who doesnt like to play the single campaign more than once. I cant wait for Gears of War 2. And Hello! BioshockOwnz! :P :D
I love it when Devs pay extra close attention to textures and detail. If you zoom in on rocks and walls, you can see that the crevices, have cracks within cracks. It's amazing! They didnt half-ass one bit at Epic Games.
[QUOTE="wooooode"]Yes the game looks great and really showed what this gen was capable of, and now MGS4 has even surpassed it.bungie93
Gears 2 will surpass MGS4 though.
and KZ2 will whipe its ass with GeoW 2. ( in terms of graphics that is )

So you played GeoW 2 and KZ2 ?We will wait and we will see.
I still think MGS 4 looks better...

I'm sorry but Killzone 2 is not a good looking game. I'm not a MGS fan, but I'll admit that MGS4 blows KZ2 away.
Still not better than Uncharted, but Uncharted came out later so it was bound to have better graphics.
hayato_
Impressive game, but I like the overall look of GeoW more...
I have it on the PC, so graphically I blow yours away. But MGS 4 achieved a much better overall graphical quality. (thanks to the yaer/2 years depending the version) of difference. What Gears needs to do is improve the overall quality. MGS 4 has tons of effects going on with no slowdowns, Gears barely has any effects. Epic should work harder on this imo, since an action game should also have kickass effects. kenshinhimura16
Yeah, I have it on PC.
[QUOTE="ReturnOfShinobi"]Because Uncharted looks better, everything on 360 is ugly and its outdated, oh and also, the 360 has hit its peak:roll:bungie93
LOL The xbox 360 is more powerful than the PS3. If anything the PS3 has reached its peak.

I dunno, Killzone is looking good but it has very weak textures, which gears obviously doesn't. It also has a very thick layer of grey fuzz covering everything, as well as a healthy dose of motion blur. The developer often spoke of using effects to make games look better than they really are when making killzone on the PS2, but it all kinda fell apart whenever the player stopped and things stopped moving. Hopefully that wont be the case here, i'm just saying that as a developer, they seem to make things look good by covering up ugly areas with effects which can often have a negative impact on a game.

YepBut i dont see the fuss about STALKER or MGS4 graphics. The models look great, but the environments are just drab, even CoD 4 was not that great either. Halo 3 is very underated, some of the MP maps and SP levels look like some of the best out there

Thats what they did with CoD 4 as well, and i was almost never impressed by the gameYeah exactly. CoD 4 has terrible textures but excellent weapon and character models, as well as lighting.
Gears has more detail, but KZ2 in motion destroys almost anything. Again, they are using visual tricks, but nobody can deny how it looksDo people seriously think that Killzone 2 looks better than Gears2? Cows need to get their eyes checked.
bungie93
Then again, Lair looked amazing on small screen videos until you played the game and got close to things:?

Yeah i agree with you on models, but seriously, the game was otherwise pretty ordinary looking, infact downright ugly at times[QUOTE="hayato_"]Still not better than Uncharted, but Uncharted came out later so it was bound to have better graphics.

Do cows think MGS4 looks better than this? ^ Seriously? Look at the detail. MGS4 has some really awful textures and stuff. Btw, these Uncharted pics are taken off of my Sammy. I trimmed around the edges.
people really need to give Killzone 2 a break i dont care it the game sucks or not but we are talking about graphics. it might have the most advanced lighting engine to date and if you have watched the recent footage it looks like he textures are improved aswell as draw distance, and the physics are great ju watch this and see.

Killzone 2 has so much motion blur. Motion blur is actually very unrealistic in gaming. Its an effect that is only relevant in photography. Developers use it to alleviate framerate problems.

There is a big difference between good lighting and bright lighting. Good lighting is supposed to be very natural. Imo the sign of good lighting in a game is if you never really notice it, just like in real life.
It has better effects, and character models, though. Textures don't solely determine graphics. Have you completed the bike chase in MGS4?
X_CAPCOM_X
Yup, completed the game. It's cool when it goes in slow-mo and you can shoot around, but I'm still not very impressed with MGS4, visually.

Me nither, other than the models its a mediocre looking game. Assasins Creed looks better[QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"][QUOTE="X_CAPCOM_X"]It has better effects, and character models, though. Textures don't solely determine graphics. Have you completed the bike chase in MGS4?

The only reason it is the system wars "graphics king" is because there are more Cows than Lemmings and Sheep on this forum and they want to have a PS3 exclusive be the "king." The Cows run System Wars :(

games are not meant to imitate life but rather a more fantasy and what if type of look. thats why killzone has a very stylized look like Hollywood effects

It still doesn't mean it has the most impressive lighting. You have to observe the lighting within the context of a game. KZ2 has standard HDR lighting. It's nothing special.
Gears of War still looks great to this day, but Metal Gear Solid 4 at the moment takes the cake in my eyes.

I agree KZ2 is a nice looking game but come on lets be real here. Gears 2 stomps a mud hole all over KZ2.Gears of War does look very impressive, even to this day. It still looks better than most games out right now.
Seriously gears graphics are overhyped, if you take a slightly closer look at the character models you would see that they're actually not that great. They only look good from a distance. Plus the game has little physics and small environments...munu9
Which is why it looks great. It seems that the game with the smallest enviroments tend to have the better graphics. Well, games for consoles anyway.

I love the small and tight knit close quarter battles. That's why I dig stop n' pop games so much. I've had enough run n' gun for a while. I'm bloated. Also, the character models and environments are very well detailed, and look simply beautiful on my HD set, so I have no clue what you speak of, sorry.
that's because you're a fanboy. I think it's ok. I do own the game by the way. It's no where near MGS4.MotoRacer81
Sure you do...
