Getting New System - Advice?

Ok, I am planning on getting a new system soon. I want to get an Xbox 360 or a PS3. I play mostly Sports games and some of the not so violent RPGs. I plan on getting Nba 2K8 or College Hoops 2K8 when I buy my system. Other than Basketball, sometime in the future I will get an NCAA Football game, a Baseball game, maybe tennis. Also, games that I play are: games based off movies (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, X-Men, Fantastic 4) I like the Need for Speed games too. And I like to play some RPG's (Final Fantasy Tactics & Pokemon on Gameboy). Eternal Sonata looks like it might be fun. Maybe Blue Dragon as well. Any other games like these coming out soon? I'm NOT into shooting or violent killing games.

Which System would probably be best for me, and why? I don't play online. Is blueray that much better? Which system freezes less and are either disks better (play when scratched)? Also, are the Xbox 360's fixed for good,there have been articles saying so(ring of death)?

I plan to get the $350 Xbox 360 - 20 GB HD(This one comes w/ Ultimate Alliance & Forza 2 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16868105006)or the $399 PS3 (No BC). I don't play online, but I want to be able to download the rosters updates(players names) for College Hoops and NCAA football and other sports games. (I use Action replay for my xbox). What is the best way to get rosters (besides buying a new memory card or mailing it off, for the new systems)? Any extra/special things I need to buy?

I generally say go off and research it & decide on your own, but strangely Iwon't andactually give youmy answer. The reasonwhy is thatthe type of gaming you play (sports for example) is quite strongly 360-related. It seems if you play mainly those types of games and so, I think 360 is generally the best choice for it. But this is your choice and I say look up at the linesups, make sure what you want and decide on your own (with some optional aid on my thoughts). Anyways, happy gaming.

Get the PS3, it's not all about the killing in sprays of blood from severed arteries thing. It HAS that, but it's not really its focus. The PS3 tend to focus on cinematic experiences.

umm.. well if you want a system right NOW the 360 is your best bet by a wide wide margin for rpgs/platformers/quirky games:

overlord(rent this one though, its not up to par with the rest, kinda my surprise game for this year, wasn't expecting it to be good)

wow basically... which system appeals to casuals more?

ok i thought id say 360 at first in terms of games.. but in terms of how you dont play online or how you require a reliable system id say get a ps3 (youd be more likely to play online too since you wouldnt have to pay for it)

but really, you make me die a little on the inside

that you play 90% games based on existing licenses

ofcourse the taste in rpgs is appreciated... but theres just something wrong about people who play mostly sports, racers and movie based games.. not you in particular i suppose

but just the people who dont play games that are based on games and originality , not some other medium

i dont mean to sound rude, you're not on the top of the terror alert system

when you get worse you push adolescense prefering mostly violent or war type games no matter how terrible in order to persue a macho image.. these people are why i dont want to be associated with gamers sometimes..

You have to remember that most of the top rated games on the 360 are First or third person shooters. With the PS3 you'll get some of the top RPGs though there are quite a lot of new RPGs coming out on the 360. Mass Effect, Infinite Undiscovery, etc...

You also have to be aware how many of the exclusive developers have switched to multiple consoles as well.

when the R&C review came out they went over the edge. Metroid Prime 3 flopped, Twilight Princess flopped, and now R&C flopped. 3 strikes your out. also they gave tony hawk's pro skater 3 a 10.

Blue Dragon is a RPG fans dream and eternal sonata is good played the demo and i love the combat even though rpg's are usually not up my alley you could seem happy with both sysytems

while the PS3 is only really offering the multiplats above, and white knight story, then FXIII in 2009 so you might have to wait awhile.

Since this is a new thing. These 360's would most likely have the GPU's fixed (so they shouldn't overheat)? I don't want to have to send away my xbox away. So I want to be pretty sure that the problem is fixed, if I get a 360.

Also, with this package, if I get a 360, is there anything else I really need for playing Xbox 360?

Casual playing and party console = Wii
