If I recall, it took the 360 a year to get its first legitamate, exclusive AAA.   

A lot of people have been quoted as saying 'give the PS3 a year' before calling it a failure. Well, in a few days its going to be 6 months. What will change or happen to the PS3 in the next 6 months to save this sinking ship? Final Fantasy and Metal Gear arent here until 2008. I see the PS3 losing more and more steam everyday with absolutely nothing in the near future to make me justify buying one. In November, when its a full year, will people say 'give it two years?'Carmilla31

1- last gen PS2 game out before x-box and GC and was able to lay out its ground work betetr. This year 360 came out first and Wii at same time.

2- The price is double of last gen. Heck the price difference between the PS3 and the Wii is more then how much PS2 even cost.

3- PS2 had a lot more big name exclusives. It is not the same this gen. GTA was HUGE for the PS2 and now it is being released on 360 on same day.The other big name for PS 2 was Final Fantasy. Well they have already said that it is not exclusive.

4-PS2 by far had the most games. This gen they do not as of right now. 360 has most games.

5-PS2 did far better in Japan. They are almost in 360 area as far as sales there but unlike 360 they are not doing that great in the other areas also.

6- They are already doing layoffs in the gaming dept. in Japan,Europe, and the USA.

There are even more reasons why this gen is not the same for PS.

PS3 is selling considerably slower than PS2. It was beating it very early on but that has long since changed.

True in some respect,but it isn't selling slower by a significantly large number(I dont think Ps2 was at 15-20 million at this stage back then),the Ps2 suffered from supply shortages hence Sony were able to benefit from the first law of demand and supply for a short period. What I find ironic is,Devs were complaining about Ps2 being difficult to develop for then as they are now.Very similar consoles these are.Dualshockin

Going by NPD in NA PS2 had sold 1.6 million in irs first 5 months compared to PS3 1.2 . The issue comes though  that the  PS2 rate of sales was much higher at this point in its lifespan. As to the similarities I think you can find similarities between all consoles if you look hard enough. 

Still it is far too early to draw any conslusions about the long term prospects of the console. Particularly when it is yet to see the release of so many of its flagship games. Or even its first instock Xmas.

I doubt it. The only way that will happen is if Sony drops the price to $500 before the holidays. Otherwise, I don't see them selling 4 million units between now and 12/31/07. Sale sof the PS3 have been dropping every month and most of the must have exclusive games have been pushed back to 2008. I didn't plan on getting a PS3 until 2008 anyways, but after seeing what's coming out in the next 6 months, my decision makes even more sense.

MGS4 and FFXIII won't be out until next year. Heaven Sword is the only game in the next 6 months worth getting. When is "Uncharted" coming out. Let's see, Gamestop has it's release date at 11/1/07. Ok. 2 good games, as long as Uncharted doesn't get pushed back until next year.

The PS3 engine is just only starting to rev. People need to quit putting it down so much.

What could happen in within 6 months .....

- Sony and the ps3 rock at E3 and TGS. Big game announcements and great showings from the upcoming games.

- A nice string of exclusive games -  Lair , Warhawk , Heavenly Sword , Ratchet and Clank Future , and LittleBigPlanet. When you throw in Resistance and Motorstorm with those that looks like a good opening year exclusive wise.Ninja Gaiden Sigma is also really cool for cow-nation. 

- A $100 price drop  

- Big multiplats releases that not only make playstation fans happy but they will also help push hardware and make the system great. I am talking about GTA IV and DMC4 in particular among some others. People who buy are going to be very happy with the content on the system this year no doubt.
