And reviewers rate games according to their own generation, not accross generations. So that score does not compare to any next gen games. It only compares to other PS2 games and games from last gen.

Considering your logic (which I don't disagree with). GoW 2 has more standards to live up to since the PS2 is 7 years old with hundreds of more games and dozens of other great games in the same genre (including a AAA predecessor) . Wrong. Read Gamespot's "read about our ratings system." Every game is reviewed according to the console it is on. Imagine if a game came out on gameboy colour and got a 9.7 - by your logic that makes it better than gears of war. Of course not. That's nonsense. It just means that on it's respective platform, it does good things to push the hardware, and it's a great game in that genre for that particular system. Lol, wow. You just reiterated what I said exactly. Perhaps you misinterpreted it...I said that God or War 2 has alot of standards to live up to on PS2 considering the consoles age and the hundreds of other great games that are on the system. Not only is it related to other great games, but also God of War (1). I said GoW 2 has more standards to live up (VS. Gears on 360) to because of the age and extensive library that the PS2 has.No, he didn't reiterated what you said at all. You are saying that the standards are high because the ps2 has been out longer and there have been so many games released. He is saying (and is supported by the GS rules statement) that it's a bad comparison because 360 games are based on more of a strict criteria than ps2 games. A 10/10 in graphics on the ps2 is not the same as a 10/10 in graphics on the 360, and reviewers have to expect 360 games to look better because of the updated hardware.
-Lot's of games were released for the gamecube, and madden 06 scored a 8.1, does that mean that madden 06 on the gamecube is superior to the 2007 versions on the 360/ps3? By your logic, since many more games were relesaed on the gamecube over the 360/ps3, the gamecube game was judged on higher standards and therefore is the best game? Doesn't make sense to me.
I'm not just talking about MORE games. I'm talking about more AAA/ AA games. Especially the genre standards that each system has. I'm not going into whether which will be/ is a better game because they are totally different. But considering that GoW was received by critics with AAA scores world wide...I think it's very impressive for GoW 2 to be doing so well. It could have turned out to be "another hack-n-slash we've come to expect" but that's not the case. The game is awesome.Even still, by talking about "more AAA/AA games", you haven't changed the concept at all. Gcube has more AAA/AA games than the 360, is madden 06 on gcube still better than madden 07 on the 360/ps3? nope. Standards increase with each next generation.
your individual opinion on GOW2 makes sense, it's when others start comparing it to 360's gears of war and saying that somehow lemmings got owned because GOW2 outscored all of the 360's library (keep in mind, all of the ps3's library as well) that things get stupid.
