What is with this boards obsession with graphics? throw some purty lights in your face, great animations, and pretty colors and you people hail something as the second coming. You would think at some point the graphics king threads would get dull. You would think at some point it would become painfully obvious that no matter how talented the console developer they won't put up a game on consoles that can match Crysis on a technical level. You would think at some point people would care about you know -gameplay -maybe the story and hope to god the story isn't a poorly written piece of crap -pacing/level design/bossfights/value of content But nope somehow someway the most meaningless title on the face of the planet "Console Graphics Princess" is argued consistantly here.
because ever since Gears of war dropped with Amazing graphics that complimented the already amazing gameplay and story Sony fans have waited ( and i mean WAITED ) For something, Anything to catch up to it.
UC2 was a good game with excellent visuals that despite being the same game youve played a zillion times ( Pick ANY tomb raider and youve already played UC2 ) and the Cows and idiot pop press media ate it up.
i call it the Avatar syndrome.
Avatar made a billion bucks and was lauded only because it was pretty, despite having ZERO substance.
there are litterally a thousand games out there that wipe the floor with UC2's weak ass story and gameplay ( RDR, GTA4, ME2, FABLE 2 we could go on forever ) but like Avatar and donkey kong country and the even worse Clash of the titans 2010, all people these days know is graphics and CGI and cant see crap when its right in front of them.
Who cares if UC2 had good facial animation if the main characters were bland and uninteresting, ( who would you rather be Drake or John Marsten? ).
gaming has devolved into a graphics pissing contest and noone even talks about gameplay anymore.
UC2 winning GOTY in 2009 instead of the FAR SUPERIOR batman AA should be evidence enough that mass Koolaide drinking was done in 2009.
i still fire up Batman AA every once and a while, MW2 and SCC.
UC2 is in my closet collecting dust, as do ALL games that deliver Zilch in the gameplay dept.
good luck convincing cows otherwise. UC2 has become thier Holy Grail.
