God of War: Ascension - Multiplayer Confirmed

God of War: Ascension has online and offline multiplayer battles for up to eight players. There are a variety of multiplayer modes, customisable avatar warriors, armour and weapon types to unlock. Eurogamer's Johnny Minkley saw it in action for a God of War: Ascension preview, published today.

Multiplayer "combines the brutal gameplay and large-scale battles that God of War is known for to create a competitive experience like never before", Sony said. According to game director Todd Pappy it's a "fresh twist" on competitive gaming.

I trust Santa Monica to do this right, they're veterans in the industry. It'll probably be like the challenge room in the Batman Arkham games.

If the SP is good too then it is fine, though I am skeptical of things right now and not super happy as of yet. I feel they could have taken a different approach to adding to the series and giving it more lasting appeal.

While I never saw PvP working for the series, this sounds awesome. It reminds me of horde mode or Mass Effect 3's multiplayer, but EPIC!!!

Jason McDonald(Combat designer): "Based on that selection you'll be able to gain magical abilities, items, different things you get from these unique gods that influence your style of play. In other games it would be considered your classes,"

And worried if it will affect SP awesomeness? well here is what they had to say:

"We didn't want to sacrifice single-player for multiplayer, neither did we want to tack [the latter] on, We're definitely going full force with both."

Kinda iffy, but I like that there are a few gods you can choose to be an ally for and they're like classes. I would instantly go with Hades.:D

On topic: If it's done right, this is gonna be fun. Of course I don't really like God Of War but still....

Why does it have to be a prequel and why do we need MP? There has already been two prequels, and the game really should have ended with number three unless Kratos is going after Jesus. I'll play it, but will I feel good about it? No! It's just something I'll have to do.

You better be able to choose gender because I want to make mine a Goddess of War under Poseidon powers :D This can go wrong in so many ways but Sony Santa Monica are wizards with their tech know-how. I really want it to work. Could be another UC2 situation with stellar story experience and fun MP.

Second of all, the game could be amazing, I am just a tad skeptical. I will have to see more before I judge. I guess it isn't much different than going from Uncharted 1 to 2, when they made the SP experience better, while adding MP and such.

If it's done in any way similar to Mass Effect 3's multiplayer than I'm all for it. I'm not interested in fighting against other players who will spam attacks at you.

Gamers complained that Playstation All-Stars(PSAS) was not like Power Stone and now Sony listened. GOW will have 4v4 brawling action with a variety of tools and powers.

Yeah I was hoping they would open it up and make it longer. I'll reserve judgement but as long as the story is good with plenty of variety in gameplay, and around 8-10 hours of play time then Im happy. Also the game really needs to add that sense of adventure that was abundant in GOW2.
