I'm glad they're trying something new with this series, looking good.

Do you not see the problem with what you're saying? Yes they're trying something new 'with this series', but are they actually trying something new or just doing what they seem to be doing with every game now?
Game sure looks nice, I just wish I could get my enthusiasm for this franchise back. Not too keen on the whole dad/son thing about this game either.
You say it like it's a bad thing.
I love movie games. I dunno what's up with people on this forum and their hate for movie games.
Good narration with good gameplay is always awesome IMO and from the sales of Sony's games this gen it seems a lot of gamers love them.
How about devs work on perfecting gameplay and leave the movie part for the cinema experts?
Don't get me wrong, I'd love a game with a good story, but gameplay should be the priority, once you're sure about the gameplay you can work on the story.
After all, cinema offers a way better experience as far as narrative and story goes.
Well it's a good thing the God of War games don't lack much in the gameplay department. Combat system isn't as deep as Ninja Gaiden or DMC but they are still very fun to play to be honest. I really don't mind movie games as long as the games themselves are fun to play.
Graphics look insane, (durr it's a GoW game.)
But what gameplay they did show doesn't do anything for me. Seems they recognized that their previous battle system was a bit mediocre, but instead of addressing its issues, they threw the baby out with the bathwater.
Personally, it wasn't a matter of franchise fatigue, they just needed to tighten up their combat. Oh well.
I'm just worried that this cinematic shit is going to bombard the gameplay like almost all of Sony's third person games. God of War is a game franchise that is almost entirely about its gameplay, this looks like that is going to largely be sacrificed to tell some endearing sob story like the rest of them.
I swear Sony's movie division was merged with PlayStation.

It becomes a bad thing when it's the embodiment of almost everything you release, these independent identities that games have start to get lost and blur lines with other games and it becomes a meld of sameness.
I'm not saying you can't like that, but too much of something is never good.
I see what you mean and you're right variety is good. I think Sony's 1st party is concentrating on their strengths the same way MS' first party concentrate on social aspect of their games because that's where they excel at. As long as their games are fun I don't see too much of a problem.

Exactly, they're both focusing on different things but they're both reaching the point of becoming harmful to their communities in different ways.
I get a lot of shit for liking and being a big fan of Quantum Break, but what is? It's something completely out of the norm for Microsoft, it's different to everything else they've been doing.
My guess is Kratos will die and be replaced by some generic Nathan Drake looking 20 year old.
Pie chart studies indicate the kids can't empathize with a protagonist who looks like an angry sex offender.

Stranger yet, isn't Kratos black, yet he has an Irish looking white kid...
@ConanTheStoner: "Seems they recognized that their previous battle system was a bit mediocre"
What you're talking about? The combat in previous games were mindless fun with its face pace action.
Saying it's mediocre is an insult.
Anyway, as far as God of War PS4 goes, I'll wait until it becomes $20 or less.
I think the 1st trailer looked better in terms of pure image quality.
This one had bad moments like the rowing and the crappy grass and orange juice blood.
Gameplay looks like a souls game but no stamina and closer camera.
I'll still play it but it doesn't look like an epic that I expected from GoW.
Too early to give it final judgement ofc.

lol, maybe the kid's adopted? :P
@KBFloYd: "and kratos is white now? "
Wasn't he always white?
Anyway, speaking of voice actor, not digging this new guy. I know it's supposed to be a older Kratos but something seems off.
i'm talking about his race.....his skin is like micheal jackson disease. but i mean his facial and body features where of a black man.
now he is a white guy with a black voice actor.

The Last of Kratos: God's End?

I liked Quantum Break, not bad, not bad at all.

Who they? Sony? Yes the over the shoulder melee combat is nothing new, it's new for the series though and I'm sure they can make it more interesting than it was in Horizon for example.
@gordonfreeman: Kratos isn't black, he's Greek. Spartan to be exact. I dunno where you got the idea he was black from.

I agree with the dude you react on. movie video games are the worst. If i want to see a movie i will watch a movie. If i want to play a game i play a game.
Every single game i play i skip every dialogue and cutscene instantly. Zero patient to wait for b grade story's. This is also the reason why witcher 3 didn't click with me at all. Way way way to much talking.
This is why i like zelda botw, just play play play.
@gordonfreeman: It's probably a shitty design choice from his PS2 origins. He's not black though, he's always been a Spartan Greek.

Why cant he be both?

When Stoner or Champ say it cows dont have much to say.
But if an Xbox fan says it 20 page thread full of vitriol.

Because they know they can't go head to head with these two :D
I have mixed feelings. On the one hand I'm really impressed that Sony took such a bold move with an established franchise. One thing is changing story or main characters but a whole gameplay change? That's pretty risky. But then again that's why Sony's first party is so good, they take risks and have the talent to make it through. On the other hand I really liked the traditional GOW so I'm not sure how this change will fair, the combat seems ok although a bit stiff for my liking and the kids seems to get in the way. Hopefully it turns out great though.
They still have almost a year to polish the gameplay. I wouldnt count it out yet.

Well, you kinda said it yourself. It's a post history thing.
When Champ and I post our opinions on games, it's not coming from some platform loyal place. It's just cut and dry how we feel about a game, no silly agendas about it. People who have been around here a while know that. A dude like Quadknight isn't going to come at me with his collection of "butthurt" and "delicious tears" gifs, because he knows I'm not on that petty shit.
PC may be my favorite platform, but I don't hype all the garbage that these hermits place on a pedestal. Sony had my favorite console library for 3 gens running (maybe 4 now), doesn't mean I apologize for their mediocre 1st party games. Nintendo makes my favorite 1st party games, but when they put out something lame, or do all of their typical stupid Nintendo things, I'm not about to go to bat for them.
But when you have an Xbox fan shitting on a Playstation game (or vice versa) and that's pretty much all they ever do, just magically they happen to dislike or hate games on the opposite platform, EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. well yeah, that invites all the fanboy nonsense.
Anyways, it's not fool full proof, you'll still catch dudes like Azatis or Putaspongeon calling me a butthurt lem when I have something not-so-nice to say about Sony lol.
@gordonfreeman: The voice actor is black the character however is white or Greek to be specific. He actually looks like the actor from prison break and his body reminds me of an MMA fighter named GSP who are both white.

Which guy from prison break?
@gordonfreeman: The older brother. He was rumored to play him in the movie till it got scrapped.
Dominic Purcell is the actors name.
