God of War is now the 3rd largest game on YouTube

Why would I use Twitch? It's not really for single-player games. Plus, those sweet hits GoW is getting on YT are PLENTY active. Nearly a billion hits... since March?! Oh my GOD! Twitch serves a different function than YT. YT is more for archiving game strategies, "look at how cool this is" moments, observing certain sections of gameplay, thoughts and comments of the game etc. All those hits add up and show the game as being a cultural gaming zeitgeist right now. Numbers that are supposed to be reserved for big social games.

As far as the viewing numbers for games on competing consoles? Sony pulled a Thanos on them. No wonder Microsoft wants to give away Sony consoles with Mixer. Because Microsoft games just don't make the cut, having only a mere fraction of the popularity of Sony games.

@Pedro: Ranks #8 in total hours watched on Twitch... Still good for a SP game. YouTube does seem to make more sense though, since I bought the game day one, and have watched several help videos on it. I haven't once watched it on Twitch. Twitch is my go to spot to watch MP games like PUBG(not anymore), Fortnite, and a few hours of SoT.

Okay, man. All those SP games ruling the top Twitch charts right now. /s Don't be angry at GoW's success. You should be happy for a game like that for helping push the industry to do better overall, and that SP games will sell well when done right.

This is a huge ammunition to show to the investors in the industry better than "kill x zombies" "spent x hours". I'm not saying they investors/publishers are the smartest but I think the raw YT/Twitch numbers have more impact in board meetings than "kill x/spent x" other than concurrent userbase of a game. Not close to as drool worthy as $ sunk by preying on the whale and dolphin gamers though.

For all the random metrics MS likes to brag about, they don't hold water because Sony would ace most of them. They made games like Sea of Thieves with high-profile viewership in mind and it gets trounced by Sony's SP games. Sad. Damn, beat SP games like Zelda too. Showing while Nintendo games can put up great sales numbers, they're still too esoteric for most gaming audiences who are too old to play them (i.e. people who don't still live with their parents).

well movies games like Gears of War 4 and Halo 5 didn't get this much attention. But then again, that expected to happen when it comes to flopptastic movie games such as those 2.

GoW is good game, but its also very linear game, and does not have any genuine secrets or alternative ways to play. So the amount of diversity on the GoW vids is minimal. All walkthru vids, for example, are identical.

So, for that reason I really dont get why people are watching those vids so much. I mean once you see one GoW vid, you've seen them all.

Makes sense it's more interesting then most games to watch on youtube as it's more a story driven game and works well for playthroughs / lets plays on your own pace. While fortnite and league and stuff like that work a lot more better on twitch.

Which also explains there twitch viewer count being non existent ( 101 place currently ) for god of war at this point.

Try playing video games you might just like it!

I mean it makes sense, the replay value is crazy, it's unpredictable, and very easy to make funny videos of. I have one and the edits on it are hilarious haha. But that's besides the point, It's popular becasue from a marketing standpoint it allows for a ton of micro-transactions and like I said, it's a new experience everytime you play.
