they haven't had a single GaaS game that was cancelled *and* in full production besides Concord.

I have no doubt that Factions 2 was nearing completion of the production of the game. And they had the game already in testing.

https://www.naughtydog.com/blog/an_update_on_the_last_of_us_online

The multiplayer team has been in pre-production with this game since we were working on The Last of Us Part II – crafting an experience we felt was unique and had tremendous potential. As the multiplayer team iterated on their concept for The Last of Us Online during this time, their vision crystalized, the gameplay got more refined and satisfying, and we were enthusiastic about the direction in which we were headed.

In ramping up to full production, the massive scope of our ambition became clear. To release and support The Last of Us Online we’d have to put all our studio resources behind supporting post launch content for years to come, severely impacting development on future single-player games. So, we had two paths in front of us: become a solely live service games studio or continue to focus on single-player narrative games that have defined Naughty Dog’s heritage.

It never entered full production and was still years away.

It was already stated it was in development for over 4 years. And back in 2019, they confirmed that their scope of the multiplayer was too big to release with the game but that it was coming when it was ready. In fact, many of us that bought TLOU2 anticipating the game included Factions 2 are still upset to this day.

How does this change my statement?

The game was never in full production and the bulk of a game's budget is always spent in full production.

Was it still expensive?

Sure. But, it would have been hella more expensive if it went into full production.

they need to go back to ps3 days. online games like warhawk and resistance.

no live service or payed skins. simple game that comes with everything day one.

these company's stop with this we need another fortnite type game.

very disappointed with sony right now.

days gone 2 please. another resistance please.

please another warhawk and twisted metal please. go back to tradition sony ip's

You don't make non-live service multiplayer games. That really doesn't exist anymore.

and that is what is wrong with online games today. I have spent about a grand over the years on fortnite skins and battle pass for my children. waste of money to the point I told them no more skins.

I loved uncharted 2 and warhawk back then. but today I don't play online at all. I don't want to pay for battle pass over and over again.

It doesn't really exist anymore because it's not feasible. You can't spend $200M+ making a game and then 10s if not 100s of millions of additional dollars supporting it without asking for additional spend from the userbase.

$70 games are having enough of a hard time covering that $200M budget to begin with.

then they add dlc like warhawk did. new maps or new vehicles ect.

I wouldn't mind paying battle pass every 6 mouths or so. not every month.

but customizing your character should be free. fortnite lmao nike shoes 1000 v-bucks is insane lol

You know, Sony can make the games they want.

If they want a piece of the live service pie so bad, they could try and make Concord 2. Rivals is doing well so there's a chance Concord 2 will earn them millions in recurring revenue.

Meanwhile the game I do want from them (Days Gone 2) will never be made.

In closing I'm replaying Chains of Olympus right now and they'll never take those old games away from me.

@R4gn4r0k: They abandoned Concord faster than folks were able to play and hate the game. I would have at least made it free to play and give it a 6 month run. But that game died in a week.

Good. There are WAY too many live services games at this point imo.

Lost time is probably more significant then lost money. May as well start working on PS6 games now. 😅

I had no idea sony was even working on a live GOW. How would that even work? Infamous would make a better GAAS title than GOW, because you could have different powers. Starhawk's another one they could have used.

This is fantastic news. Sony might be on the road to finding their identity again.

When in 2030? I mean most Sony games take 5yrs, and with all these 2024 cancelations means these devs need to start all over again at the concept stage, so yeah 2030 it is, so when the PS7 is in production 🤭

Bluepoint is too talented to have been wasted on this stupid project, and something we already knew failed on the PS3.

Are you sure about that? maybe you should go check what games these guys have actually made on their own, it might shock you that have made 1 game on their own of their own choice and that was back in 2006 when the studio first opened and it's basically an indie game.

So not a single game of their choice in 19yrs, too talented? more like not talented enough that no one will trust them enough to fund an idea that they might have on their own and now stuck making other Sony's studios games.

That's a good thing as Days Gone has the most walking/riding talking segments of ANY video game. The segment where you transition to the 3rd map takes the controller away from you for over 2hrs, it's the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen in a video game.

How anyone can want a game where it disrespects your time is beyond me🤷‍♀️

@last_lap: isn't a sequel a time to make improvements?

Give me Ryse and The Order sequels so they can improve on what worked and get rid of elements that didn't.

wot

What has that got anything to do with Bluepoint being "talented" or "wasted"?

Blue Point was formed to perverse games, and repackage for a wider audience. They clearly succeed in this. Even before Shadow of the Collossus. Bluepoint is on par with Nightdive Studios in this area.

Whether you like ports and remakes is a whole different conversation in-on itself. & if you like originality and new IPs? support developers like Media Molecule (which make very interesting games no one buys). The market is large enough to have remaster specialists or sequel pumpers and devs creating something new, difference is majority purchase the former and not the latter.

Remakes and remasters is Bluepoints go-to. Why they got thrown into a terrible GoW Live Service game is something only Jim 'the bitch' Ryan would think is a great idea.

I still can’t believe that this is what they put Bluepoint to work on. What an absolute waste. 🤦‍♂️

Goodness...

Glad it's canceled. That would have been a disaster worse than Concord. Also glad these live service games are getting canned. What a stupid move!

@R4gn4r0k: Or being a Sony studio they double down on what they did in the first game and make even more walking/talking segments amd cutscenes, we both know it's the Sony way.

@RSM-HQ: Wot indeed.

You called them too talented and yet they only remaster others games, that doesn't make you talented, it makes you a tribute act.

Let's wait and see if/when Bluepoint is allowed by their mummy Sony to create something of their own doing before we call them talented sheesh.
