Sorry if old, but I didn't see it.

The story:

Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment has its sights set on a galaxy far, far away. Speaking to Rock Paper Shotgun, CEO Feargus Urquhart said the studio has pitched LucasArts on a new Star Wars role-playing game.

"I would say it's within the top three pitches weve ever come up with, he said.

The game would be set between the events of films Episode III and Episode IV. "We think that time frame is super interesting. It's the fall of the Republic, the extermination of the Jedi; it's Obi-Wan going off and making sure Luke is OK. You have the Sith, but you have the extermination of all Force users except for very, very few," he said.

Urquhart said he pitched LucasArts on the idea prior to Disney's acquisition of the Star Wars brand in October. He noted that the transition "changes things," but that won't keep Obsidian from pushing the game with new owner Disney.

He said when Obsidian pitched the game to LucasArts, the studio received a positive call back later that very day. Since Disney's takeover of Star Wars, though, Obsidian has yet to speak with the House of Mouse about getting the project off the ground.

"We havent [talked with Disney yet]. Were kind of waiting for the smoke to clear," he said. "But thats one of my next big things to do. To kind of go over there and [get the ball rolling again]."

If Disney does greenlight Obsidian's new Star Wars RPG, it will not be the first time the two companies have worked together. Obsidian spent a year making a Snow White prequel called "Dwarves" before changes at Disney led to the game's cancellation.

Obsidian is no stranger to the Star Wars brand. The studio developed 2004 role-playing game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II--The Sith Lords, taking over the reins from original developer BioWare. The developer is currently working on South Park: The Stick of Truth and Project Eternity.

Was gonna make this thread, but started playing GTAIV instead. So psyched.

Hope this gets the go ahead. Though, I wouldn't be surprised, as Disney have Episodes VII, VIII, and IX planned, as well as other Star Wars movies which won't be in the main series.

Disney seem to be planning a fair amount in the Star Wars franchise, so I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

The only games that have been good from Obsidian are ones where they make a sequel and have all the game assets handed to them.

I think they see the potential in the IP, and this would sell. No reason not to do it, really.

Yeah, but how much of that will involve venturing in the vg market with a fairly large project like this though,it´s not like they have a very strong tradition in the market, especially in recent years, though I guess having the SW license now could change things a bit. Not ruling it out yet but I kinda sorta really doubt it lol.

I thought they were making a Kickstarter game? Do they have multiple teams or is that just a small project?

I don't think they'd do any in-house development after 1313 (unless it does really well), but they said they were interested in outsourcing the IP, and Obsidian is a good fit.

Multiple teams. Plus Stick of Truth is done, and this is just them pitching the idea. Development hasn't started and wouldn't for a while even if it was approved tomorrow.

I agree. It's very much an established franchise. Even in the RPG market.

I'm not sure if Disney owned or OK'd Star Wars 1313, but the Star Wars franchise is pretty well proven in the video game market. It is true though, that recent years have lacked an significant Star Wars titles, barring the shipwreck of TOR.

Like I say, it's definitely not worth ruling out, but I certainly understand where you're coming from. That being said, if Disney don't OK this, i'm going to burn them to the ground.

Sure 'nough.

The only reasons I can't see it being approved is that Disney doesn't feel like spending the money on something that's not a sure-fire hit or they just don't like the pitch, though LucasArts was very receptive of it before, so signs are good.

In staying on topic with the thread, I don't know what to think of this.  I didn't like Fallout New Vegas all that much, and the atrocious combat from KotoR #1, the Bioware one, turned me off completely off the 2nd KotoR.

I suppose it's only 5 bucks on Steam...

What else has Obsidian done?  Only recent titles I've heard about from them have been stinkers.

Great game. If you didn't finish the first, also finish that. Number 1 has, by far, the best twist in videogames... Ever. Number 2 has an excellent story.

I've heard great things.  But the majority of the game is played out through combat scenarios, I imagine.  And said combat is so frustratingly dull, as well as odd, that I will never reach said plot twist.

I simply hate dice rolls.  If my lightsaber connects with the opposing Jedi to the face and misses 7/10 times, I call bullsh!t.  So I suppose you could just say I suck at these games.  /sadface

Disney seem to be planning a fair amount in the Star Wars franchise, so I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

Plus Disney said they would outsource some games related to Star Wars, so it is quite possible that if a studio really wants to develop a Star Wars game, Disney would let them do it.

Given that it was very nearly superior to the game it was a sequel to? Yeah, I'd say so.

dont summon him -________-

He was destined to come in here as soon as I typed the title.

Well, I suppose we could always hope he's asleep or doing some creepy Biodrone stuff, and by the time he's done, this thread is dead and abandoned, but unstained by his presence! :P

Given that it was very nearly superior to the game it was a sequel to? Yeah, I'd say so.PannicAtack

That's debatable (the high points may have been better, but the amount of content that failed to make it into the game really hurt the overall game flow and story), and it was sure as hell buggier than the original. The point being that considering how quickly Obsidian fans are willing to shift blame for all the developers' failings to publisher interference, the fact Obsidian is talking about shacking up with LucasArts again kinda raises some questions (to say the least).

Kotor 1 does have one of the most memorable plot twists I've ever seen in a video game, yeah.PannicAtack

I honestly can't think of anything, in this gen, that matched that twist.

For sure.

To be fair,I´m mostly just trying to play it safe and avoid getting hyped for something that may never happen. :P
