[QUOTE="Robio_basic"]I know you're not really interested in the 360, but keep this in mind. There are more RPGs on it than on the Wii and PS3 combined. Plus Final Fantasy 13 will be on the 360 (at least outside of Japan).
If you're still adamant about not getting it the ultimate question for you is just how tight is money for you? The Wii is $150 cheaper than the PS3 plus you'll pay on average $10 less per new game. Many new games even come in at the $40 mark. If you're buying a lot of games over the year that adds up.
Additionally if you don't forsee yourself buying more than one game a month (12 a year or so) then there's no reason the Wii's library won't suffice. The last couple months were weak for the Wii, but over the life of the system there are plenty of good games that you'd like. On the other hand if you really think you'll be buying up games left and right, then the Wii's library make be a little too thin for you in which case the PS3 may be the better option.

Does it really matter if the 360 has a bunch of rpgs if most of them are average at best? Lost Oddysey was slightly better than average and Vesperia was very good as well as Eternal Sonata, but Sonata you can get on the PS3. The rest of the 360s rpgs were not veyr good at all. Fable 2 I dont' consider an rpg either, it's a short action game.
The PS3 has Sonata, which is very good, as well as Disagea which is good and the sleeper strategy rpg of the year Valkyria Chronciles. They also have FF13 (as does the 360) and FF13 VS which is EXCLUSIVE to the PS3.
The biggest two reasons you buy a 360 are for FPS (the 360s two biggest franchises are Halo and Gears) and Live. He has stated HE LIKES NEITHER.
The PS3's biggest franchises are Metal Gear, God of War, Uncharted, LBP and Resistance. Only one of those is an FPS.
I think he'd be happier with the PS3 even IF the 360 was on his list. PS3 exclusives are simply more up his alley since most 360 exclusives are shooters.
On top of all that his wife would probably ADORE Little Big Planet and get months and months of replayability out of it with user content.
I don't think there is even a debate. Go with PS3.
wait, are you saying mass effect is an average RPG?
most 360 exclusives are shooters? you really really need to check 360's library
Before everyone starts 'flaming' or saying 'not another one of these topics,' please hear me out.
-I am on a tight budget, and can only buy one system, and one system only for a very long time (if not indefinitely).
-Tight budget, so price of hardware and games plays a big factor.
-My choices are Wii or PS3, I am not interested in 360 at all.
-I have an HDTV, and would like to have a blue-ray player.
-I love RPGs, but have become accustomed to casual play as well.
I don't blame you about not being interested in the 360. 360 really isn't that good of a console. its junk, it only has 3 good exclusives and paying online is just a waste of money. I did own all three consoles at one time but I only have the Ps3 now because the 360 was junk and the wii is just annoying. I used to like nintendo when it was actually fun, but when the gamecube came out and the wii came out I just started hating nintendo. if you want to play oldskool nintendo games go to gameguerilla . com its a place where you can download free nes and snes games instead of wasting 12 dollars on the wii vc. The best choice is the PS3. im not a fanboy im just saying for facts. the online is free which is excellent. online should be free. ps3 will have a longer life span then the 360 would. hd dvd is already outdated. If you like RPG's then yes get the ps3 because thanks to blu ray rpg games will be longer and better. and you can play online for free. white knight cronicles is coming out in 2009 and its going to be great. ps3 does have better exclusives like mgs 4, little big planet, white knight cronicles, buzz(if you like trivia games) infamous, warhawk, motorstorm, resistance (60 players online) and much more. trust me, the wii isn't worth it unless you want to play another mario game or a zelda game. only good games for nintendo anymore. Ps3 is amazing, im buying blu ray now and I sold all of my dvds. blu rays are so much nicer and the movies have tons more features. I'm not making you buy the ps3, but by the looks of your thread the ps3 is the choice for you. I'm happy with my ps3 and I love the games for it. I use it for online searching including youtube, and I watch horror movies (blu ray) on it. I also use it for a music player:) PS3 is much more advanced then the wii and 360 put together, I know this because my cousin works with technology and he showed me everything on ps3. microsoft people even said that the ps3 was more advanced thats why developers are not used to making games on it.
-I consider myself a Final Fantasy fanboy.
-I like Mario, but not particularly interested.
-Not too interested in FPS, nor "party games."
-I would like to get my wife into gaming as well, and think that the Wii may be a great possibility.
I know different consoles are more 'fit' for certain players than others. So, based upon my situation and preferences, which would you guys pick if you were under my situation. I have no experience with these consoles other than playing Wii sports for 5 minutes, and thoroughly enjoying it (even for that 5 mintues). Thank you for hearing me out.

PS: Don't make the same mistake I did and listen to 360 fanboys because they are nothing but liars! I had the 360 twice, first time it broke down and the second time I just sold it because I wanted ps3 games! The ps3 will last longer than the wii and 360 because ps3 is more advanced!
[QUOTE="KungfuKitten"]If You have to ask this question in the anti-nintendo board then You already made up Your mind ;)Tell me about it... they just deleted the post I made giving him reasons to get a Wii. Don't fight the river, just direct it.
So get a PS3.

I think the PS3 is your best bet based on your criteria(you have an HD TV, Final Fantasy fanboy etc...). You will be dissapointed in the Wii especially as new games get more advanced and the Wii graphics stay stuck in the late ninties. If you had kids then I might recommend Wii, but your wife will probably have just as much fun with the PS3 as you(Eyetoy games, LBP etc.).
It really depends on how you prioritize the criteria you wanted filled.
A word of warning: this IS, as a previous poster has noted, the Wii hate Wii board at the moment, and, despite what they may tell you, the Wii does have good games.
Also: look at the posters and judge their credibility and how they relate to you. These people are not like you; they love online gaming and not a day goes by without a hundred threads arguing over whether Live or PSN is better. They don't necessarily have the same tastes you have.
Also: ignore the idiots. I believe one of the first to reply told you not to get a Wii beause you wopuld be embarassed by all the kiddy games (such as Mario, I believe he said) in front of your friends. These are insecure fools and should not be trusted (unless you too are an insecure fool).
A Wii will help your wife get into gaming; I personally play a lot of Wii Sports with my dad and we have a lot of fun. It also has a lot of RPGs ( a new Tales game coming soon) and, of course, the Virtual Console provides a lot of old school RPGs - Breath of Fire 2 for example. (Note: the VC requires the Wii to be connected to the internet but an extra charge is not levied over time; you just pay once for the game and can re-downlaod it for free if you delete it. If you have wireless broadband in your house, congrats, you're sorted. Otherwise you buy a bojangle thing for the PC to connect the Wii). It also has one of the best Mario games made, IMO. Backwards compatability, which also means you can play the excellent Tales of Symphonia for GC on the Wii (my favourite game ever)
However, at the moment I consider the PS3 to have a slightly better library overall; it also has FF (but I don't think it has PS2 backwards combatability). It also has better hardware than the Wii (though you don't appear to be the sort of person who particularly cares about that) which means better graphics (though I think the Wii's are fine).
Hope this helps. Just a note: I've always owned a Nintendo console since the N64, and I've never looked back. However, I may be biased, so take that into account when you read my post. I tried to keep it all facts though.
Thank you guys for giving me some helpful insights. And I had no idea this forum thread was a Wii hate board, so I will try and sort through obvious bias.
My whole purpose of asking this question was to decide whether to get a PS3 or Wii with the help of people that may play/like games similar to me. In seeing some replies, I am leaning more towards a PS3, although I am still indecisive at the moment. I do appreciate all your help, so please keep the replies coming!
people that are saying 360 need a reality check.
#1 he said hes not into online gaming......and 360 is terribly lacking in features if you dont have gold.
#2 he said hes on a tight budget, but wants blu-ray.....how would it make sense to buy a 360 and still be left out in the cold on blu-ray?
#3 PS3 & 360 have essentially the same games.
.....beyond that, get the PS3. I own all 3 and the Wii is the only one I dont look at. I love my 360 and PS3 equally. While PS3 doesnt have alot of games geared towards your wife, PlayStation Home could in the future be her very addiction. Hi-Def Gaming, Blu_Ray, Upscaled DVD, Endless multimedia features, and free online which is never a bad thing..especially for a tight budget. (Dont bring up the Wii's online fanboys, its nonexistant.)
Get a PS3.
The Wii isn't worth its price.
RuinedMachine
Maybe to a fanboy it isn't but if RE4, Brawl, Galaxy, MP3, Zelda, Zach and Wiki, Super paper Mario, Okami, No More Heroes, Mario Kart and others aren't good enough games for you then what exactly are? The Wii is definetely worth the $250.
Although personally you should probably stick with the PS3, but out of curiosity why aren't you interested in the Xbox which is cheaper (like you said you have a low budget) and most of the good games that the PS3 has but more. Unless I suppose if you really want Blu-ray.
My sister just bought me a wii. OMG that thing is fun. I almost died playing that boxing game. I would give that game a rating of 1 cause its too damn demanding. I have a 360 and a gaming pc. Anyway, mario cart is fun. THats all i have atm, wii sports and mario cart. ima pick up zelda and mario over teh weekned maybe. Go for teh wii bro. PS3 is good for blue ray movie.. boringgg!!! i hate watching movies.
Seriously, based on his criteria the 360 is a better fit than the PS3 in everything except bluray....however the 100-200 dollars saved can take care of that. IMO his based on his choices he should get the 360, then the PS3, then the Wii.people that are saying 360 need a reality check.
#1 he said hes not into online gaming......and 360 is terribly lacking in features if you dont have gold. If he's not into online gaming it doesn't really matter now does it, the PS3 doesn't have any more single player features than the 360 in fact, the 360 stilll supports many the PS3 doesn't(ie universal custom soundtrack support, etc)
#2 he said hes on a tight budget, but wants blu-ray.....how would it make sense to buy a 360 and still be left out in the cold on blu-ray? He can get a 360 AND a stand alone bluray player for the price of a PS3...are you forgetting you can get a 360 model for 200 dollars less than the PS3?
#3 PS3 & 360 have essentially the same games. Which is a good reason to NOT spend 200 bucks EXTRA on the PS3.
.....beyond that, get the PS3. I own all 3 and the Wii is the only one I dont look at. I love my 360 and PS3 equally.
