Good AI to me is when I've played a game for countless hours and an enemy can still manage to do something I don't expect.

People probably won't agree with my definition but that's what impresses me.

Bad AI is when all of their reactions to situations are completely predictable to the point it breaks immersion.

That's why Halo: Reach has both really good AI (enemies), and really bad AI (friendlies).

Bad AI = Call of Duty. Solution? Throw tons of them at you.

Good AI = FEAR. Even 2-3 of them can suppress and flank you.

Gears and Uncharted 2 have decent AI that never feels cheap and keeps the pacing going.

Halo CE still has some of the best AI of all time. I think it's mainly due to the different races of aliens that gives it so much variety.

Wasdie

Am I crazy, or did in Halo CE with elite, the minor ranked blue elites usually rushed ahead to try to kill you, where the crimson armoured elites usually stayed back behind the grunts/jackals? They mentioned this in the novel, but I seem to remember this vaguely in the game.

But yeah, with grunts, if you kill the elite leading the pack, they'll run away. That was mindblowing at the time, I think.

Good AI = Intelligence and not just loads of hp or numbers or endless spawning. Bad AI = the above.

Games I typically compare to demonstrate good and bad AI are God of War and Kingdom Hearts II. God of War's AI demands you actually utilize all your abilities and fine-tune your techniques before being able to kill off baddies, while KHII has abilities you'll never need to learn because you can literally press the "win button" on your controller and watch the credits roll.

As far as Uncharted goes, I disagree that it has bad AI, I think it's AI level is well-balanced. Many of the enemies don't really vary their moves, but when set against you as a unit, there is a steep challenge at times.

The "win button"? Kingdom Hearts 2 is no walk in the park. Have you played against Shephiroth in it?

Sephiroth was WAY easier in 2 than 1.

Even if you thought he was, he was still very hard in 2.

I think The Sims 3 probably has the best AI of any game I've ever played. It gets everything right, from survival needs to the being a good person:being an ass for no reason ratio.

Beside a couple boss fights, KH2 is a walk in the park. KH1 was harder, and thankfully Birth by Sleep doesn't rely as much on the button mashing.

[QUOTE="Michael0134567"] The A.I. in Gears of War is horrible lol :P.Punjabiking101

Gears 2 had good AI.

now Gears 1's AI was pretty bad. they'd bum rush and stand out of cover a lot. Gears 1 is still the better game as a whole, though.

It's terrible, all they do is stand there twirling their smokes.

Yeah, that's pretty much what they do.It's so painful to watch them. They also love to shoot at walls.

LOL U2 has good A.I.s, they arent dumb, they will find you and kill you. But the are retarded on easy setting, they will back up and do circles around you while shooting at the air when you are like 5ft away from themJ-WOW
i thought the campaign A.I was a bit predictable..however online coop missions the A.I were deadly good imo..especially those ninja guys who try and strangle u.

[QUOTE="moose_knuckler"]To each his own, I guess. Playing on vet. was a bit more than your description of it.Wasdie

Playing on vet they just shoot more accurately and throw more grenades at your feet.

It's not even that. They're exactly the same on all difficulties, you just die quicker.
