I've decided to make a thread for people who want to actually talk about games they're playing. RuinedMachine made an excellent point in that people on here hardly discuss games any more. It's just sales and regurgitated press releases

I enjoy talking sales and analysing trends, especially when games I like are selling. But we shouldn't forget about the games themselves, after all that's the reason we're on a videogame site in the first place. Our shared interest in games. I'll start us off

Fallout 3 - Playing this at the minute. Have managed to get into it which I could enver do with oblivion. I liek the way they implement character creation intot he characters birth and childhood. Liam Neeson rock. Trying to play as a good guy who picks pockets, a gentleman thief!

Far Cry 2 - Reminds me a lot of GTA in the way you're given missions and have to travle around the map doing them, but only if you want to. Combat sucks though and so does the stupid malaria crap

I've actually been playing less recently. I bought Fallout 3 (PC) about a week ago and I haven't really made it far yet. The game's pretty great so far though.
These days I mostly play SFTurbo2HDRemix.

For Christmas I should be getting Mirror's Edge and MGS4. Can't believe I haven't even played MGS4 yet.

I've also been fighting the urge to start a new Xenogears game.

Mirros Edge is an acquired taste, but i've found it to be one od those games like GTA 4 where the press completely disagrees with what gamers are saying

I doubt I'll ever play Far Cry 2. From what everyone says about it... i just don't think it would interest me all that much. Too many other games I would rather play.

Fallout 3 I want to play quite a bit. But I told myself I should at least, AT LEAST, beat the main storyline in Oblivion once before I even turn on F3.

But games I'm playing... well I have this large stack of games ready to be played once my finals are done. But lately, I've played a little Resistance 2 online which is pretty fun.

Most of my time has been spent towards Lost Odyssey though. The game is beautiful in almost every way. After FFXII, SE could learn a thing or two from Mistwalker about making the player care for the characters. If FFXII had the story LO has, it would possibly be one of my favorite games.

I've also started on Devil May Cry which is pretty fun. I want to beat it, get through 3, then move onto 4. Should be fun. :)

And like I said, I have many games I want to play through over the break. They are: Lost Odyssey, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest VIII, ICO, DMC, Dark Cloud (maybe 2), Fable 2, Resistance 2, Oblivion, FFIV, FFXII: Revenant Wings, FFVII: Crisis Core, and FFIX. My plan is to beat ICO, DMC, Lost Odyssey and Fable 2 over the break at least. We'll see how that goes. ^_^

Prince of Persia - Just beat it, and since I'm writing a review for it, I'll keep it short. Not as good as the Sands of Time games.

Condemned 2 - Just beat this last night, again review coming, no where near as good as Condemned 1.

Banjo: Nuts and Bolts - Actually a really good game, I think about half-way done, and loving it.

Puzzle Quest - Really good game, though the AI is hard as hell.

I've got a lot of games to play during break. Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, The Orange Box, Banjo, Infinite Undiscovery, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Rainbow Six Vegas 1, and Bioshock.

Fallout 3 has been great so far, although the combat is a little iffy if you don't like using VATS all the time. Overall its a very well crafted game that does alot it sets out to do. Far Cry 2 was a royal dissapointment. GTA4 has had me hooked for a while and ive really enjoyed the game overall, im not sure why people keep calling in "overrated"

Fallout 3. I was skeptical about Fallout 3 being a good game especially seeing the E3 coverage, but Bethesda proved me wrong. I feel they did a good job on interpreting the Fallout universe, but at the same time they didn't. Overall It is a good game and it's one of my favorite games to come out this year. I played a male character who was good, and I'm thinking about starting a new game where I was as a evil female character.

I'm thinking about buying Left 4 Dead, Persona 4, Operation Darkness, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. during my holiday break and try to play much as I can before the spring semester starts.

I haven't played Farcry 2 in a while, but replying to TC on my take of the game. Farcry 2 is a decent fun game, but there are two things that I dislike about the game. One is how tedious and time consuming travel place to place can be even if you use the bus stops. Two is how the mp games you have to wait for people to join the game instead of having matchmaking system.

So I've been interested in Valkyria Chronicles but ever since I played FF Tactics I've stayed away from SJRPGs.
Yes I am one of the rare people who didn't like Tactics.

Having said that, do you guys think I would enjoy VC?

It looks like there's a consensus on Fallout 3 and Far Cry :) both you and gundamguy mentioned GTA4 was good, what does it offer to someone who isn't really interested in the story?

I haven't played games recently I hated the last game I played that I hated was Red Steel. (That was 2 years ago)

The good games were

  • No More Heroes
  • MGS Essentials Collection
  • Fatal Fury Battle Archieves Vol. 1
  • Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (My favorite Wii Game)
  • Little Big Planet (My Uncle had his PS3 at Thanksgiving)
  • NHL 09
  • Rock Band (Wii)
  • Battlelion Wars 2
  • Metal Slug Anthology
  • Super Mario Galaxy (Playing it again since I didn't finish it and just stopped playing for awhile I was stuck with only 4 Stars to go with Mario)
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Same as SMG I didn't finish and needed a break because I was Stuck)

Edit* I only listed all the games I played this year.

Good,

L4D :) such an awesome game.

GTA4, I like it a lot, the attention to detail is really great. I'm still amazed at how the vehicle damage is implemented.

Bad,

Assasin's creed. I just want to finish the damn thing.

Can't recall the last bad game I played. Mask Of The Betrayer has been eating my time lately.

Last night in the game I went through a portal to another plane where I ended in prison, which I escaped, then to some sort of dream world, in the dream world I entered some guy's dreams, and in his dream we played a game of hells, and I was like wtf I was supposed to do in the first place, then I killed everyone and travelled back...

So it's your typical "travel to mount doom and back to get to the next room RPG". But it's getting better as the story fleshes out. Not as good as the original NWN2 tho.

Bad...GTA4 I was expecting something like Vice City and this game is like the polar opposite in every way. Plus, I really loved doing taxi missions cuz it made the game like a violent version of Crazy Taxi, but I don't think GTA4 lets you do that at all. Naruto: Broken Bond. The single player is easily the worst thing ever. The cartoon is all about kid ninjas going on assassination missions or having to escort people who are going to be assassinated. The missions in the game are nothing but, "go in the forest and collect 20 flowers". The only worthwhile thing about the game is that it has a fighting game mode thats online, but you have to unlock characters by beating the single player. I've done like 10 "find the mushroom" missions and haven't unlocked anyone so i'm probably not gonna play single player for a few weeks until i have th epatience to chug through these crappy missions to get to one where I can unlock somebody to fight as.

Good...Lost Odyssey. I'm almost done with this game but for some reason I decided to go into this super huge maze dungeon. I HATE MAZES IN JRPGS so I don't know why I decided to do this. I've leveled up insanely high, but i'm lost. I hate mazes so much that I haven't played the game for like 3 months now, even though I could exit the maze and beat the last level in like 3 hours top (2 hours would likely be spent wandering around the maze trying to get out).Fallout 3, but i'm burned out on it. I played it for like 50 hours and did a crapton of sidequests, but it seems like I did so many that i've literally killed every enemy in the game, so theres not even stuff for me to shoot anymore. I went and shot up like every possible building as I came across it, so now when I do main quests theres nobody there to shoot. The story never really hooked me so i'm not enjoying doing missions with nothing to kill.Naruto: Broken Bond. I really like the online fighting. I played the last one online for like an insane amount of time. I've only had this oen for like 3-4 weeks but i'd estimate that i've played it online for at least 40 hours already and I haven't even unlocked like half of the characters yet.

Games that I own but haven't played yet (I only play about 2 games at once): Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia & Infinite Undiscovery

Recent games I played : 1. Fallout 3 - Decent Fun game, enjoyed it for a while after which it became tedious - 8/10 2. World of Goo - Fun game, cool enjoyable concepts, only problem I see is that some levels are pretty bad - 8.5/10 3. Spectromancer - Turn Based card games, was a lot of fun, lots of interesting fight with cool conditions - 8.5/10 4. Storm of Zehir - Amazing in some aspects like use of skills, creation of your party, etc but fails in stuff like variety - 7.5/10

Did no one here enjoy Far Cry 2? I enjoyed it, though i did get distracted from it before i finished it but i do plan on going back to it, i found it to feel abit different to other fps. But thats just my opinion of course. i would be playing dead space right now but my brother stole it! So im on Motorstorm2 and abit of resistance here and there. Resistance two you all know is great, but id STRONGLY recommend the new motorstorm!

The World Ends With You - Brilliant unique game AAA

Hotel Dusk - Another Brilliant game, engaging story, interesting characters, brilliant dialog, catchy soundtrack, love the art style AAA in my eyes.

Braid – Very cool unique game, AA for me.

Left 4 Dead – Hell of a lot of fun AA maybe AAA

Castlevania SOTN – bought this on XBL recently, first time I played it and it defiantly lived up to the hype AAA.

Castle Crasher – Fun but gets a little old on your own, completely broken online what's damn poor, A to AA

Duke Nukem 3D – Great game AA.

>>>>>Bad:

The good:

Valkyria Chronicles - Just finished it last night and I loved it. The gameplay is fun, satisfying and unique, the story was heartwarming and the art direction is just beautiful. There's so much to like about this gem. Definitely my RPGOTY.

Prince Of Persia - A little on the easy side, but a wonderful, beautiful ride. A worthy successor to The Sands Of Time trilogy.

The bad:

Nothing actually. I was satisfied with all my purchases this holiday season :). It's pretty easy to wade through the crap when there are so many masterpieces.

The Good

Gears of War 2. With more online options, a more varied singleplayer/co-op campaign, and winning gameplay and graphics, this is my go-to game when playing with friends. Love the new weapons, and the story was actually surprisingly poignant.

Fallout 3. I like Oblivion more, but Bethesda is still the RPG king imo. Loved everything except the ending.

Fable 2. Legues better than the 1st game, I really have enjoyed this RPG-Lite with it's charm and smooth controls. Like Euro-Zelda in some ways.

Call of Duty 5. The singleplayer is OK, but I think Co-Op saves it. Multiplayer is extraordinary.

Mediocre

Far Cry 2 isn't linear but damn it if I wish it were. Fighting guys that have respawned at a place you were just at a second ago sucks.

Resistance 2. Ho-hom singleplayer. Big, but somehow lonely multiplayer that can't hold a candle to COD5.

Dead Space. It had some neat ideas, but ultimately left me feeling unsatisfied. No matter what you hear, it's really not that scary.

Little Big Planet. I guess I don't really enjoy making Platformer levels in my spare time. Maybe because I don't like platformers in general. Cute, but I've probably played this the least of the bunch thanks to the limited gameplay options.

Great thread.

Right now I'm loving Far Cry 2.

I have not played any bad games the past year....well I'll just put a game that I like that everyone else hates...Prizefighter. Im a total fan of boxing, and I enjoy the heck out of the game.

You can read my review of it if you'd like. Ummmm, how does it match up? Well...it depends on how much realism you like in your games. To give you an example...I loved APF08 more than Madden 08. Just because of the realism. Fight Night is more arcade and Prizefighter is more sim IMO. The bugs in the game are just overall HORRIBLE and make the game a lemon online. The other night while playing one of my friends, I beat the heck out of him...and we both agreed that I whipped him....well, I lost the fight by points. SMH. While they didnt give him every round...we both thought I won. I guess I wasnt landing the cleaner shots. IDK. Anywhoo...its worth it now..its only 19.00. I bought it for 60.00 I still like it.

For 19.00 I'll give it a run. Hell, Don King's ridiculous vocabulary is worth $10 by itself.

Well I try to make it a point to play good games and only good games so this is a bit one sided.

Fallout 3 just got a trophy and bug patch and i played it last night and wow it was everything I'd hoped for I actually like Oblivion and it was easy for me to jump into this and I really wanted to have more time in the vault to see what happens there. And I hope that there are some consequences for my actions that develop later on. I am the mean ***** who uses guns and steals :)

Bioshock- Just finished a survivor no VC run and almost got platium status, (stupid historian) and throughly enjoyed the game again then when I played it last year. Great game and i get another play though for that last trophy.

Quantum of Solace- 007 FPS that isnt goldeneye and be fun? I like the mix of FPS and cover system its like CoD meets Rainbow six vegas. And surprisingly I am enjoying the MP more so then CoD WaW. Funny how that works out,

CoD WaW: I love competitive coop, and find myself not able to play any other campaign if XP isnt coming out of enemies I shoot. Lotta fun but SP and MP is meh.

Dead Space- Great horror/action, playing on hard makes everything so tense and those damn blackskinned necromorphs are extremely scary on hard mode as they take so much damage and deal so much damage. Great game and I can't wait to finish it and go through it again.

I haven't played any "bad" games from this year - but these bothered me this year from a gameplay standpoint - GTA IV , Mercenaries 2 , PoP.

Is it worth getting prince of persia, I heard it basically plays itself
the last game i finished was dead or alive 2 for the dreamcast.... don't know how that game got a AAA here, it was pretty "meh" to mest1ka
boob physics man boob physics

Can't recall the last bad game I played. Mask Of The Betrayer has been eating my time lately.

Last night in the game I went through a portal to another plane where I ended in prison, which I escaped, then to some sort of dream world, in the dream world I entered some guy's dreams, and in his dream we played a game of hells, and I was like wtf I was supposed to do in the first place, then I killed everyone and travelled back...

So it's your typical "travel to mount doom and back to get to the next room RPG". But it's getting better as the story fleshes out. Not as good as the original NWN2 tho.

I was enjoying NG2 until I bought Fallout 3 and I was obsessed with that game, then L4D came along and that's all I played for a few weeks. Recently went back to finish up HL:EP2 but got sidetracked when I got the sudden urge to pop GTA4 back in after about 3 months of not playing it. Now I am more into it then I was to begin with. Once I finish that I will get back into NG2 and Fallout 3 again, but I can see that derailed by potentially getting Gears2 or Dead Space for xmas.

I also played SIlent Hill and Fable 2, I liked SH but I got stuck on one part and it's too damn frustrating and F2 just about put me to sleep, I'll give it another couple hours though.

With PoP , I am having the same problem a lot of people are having because I keep pressing buttons when I don't need to with the platforming ... so I can't get a real flow going with the traversal. Most said they get used to it , but I haven't adapted very well so maybe I am the problem. And I am not much of a collect-a-thon type of gamer , collecting light seeds just to progress are like torture to me.
