Google is developing a console

Way too early to say whether this will be a competitor for the Big Three (Four?) but Google is certainly a force to be reckoned with if they go that route.

A lot of talk about it having a streaming gaming service, but little about the hardware itself or whether it will be capable of playing stand alone local titles, yet. More to come!

No! I literally will not support this console. The new competitor would have to come with it. The best gen was 7 because EVERYONE got a sizable piece of the pie. Though now it's leaning more towards Sony, and now it's looking like the Sony and Nintendo show. Even Microsoft is flopping in this economy. I highly doubt Google would do well, but who knows.

I love the idea of game streaming, but they have to fix provider speeds first, no way I could play games with the connection Comcast gives me. It's only going to get more ridiculous without net neutrality.

@PSP107: You asked about PSNOW/Gamepass in a reply to "Streaming? Ew." when you can't really compare the two. PsNow basically sucks due to latency issues (imo), and with MS announcing all new exclusives will go straight to Gamepass, the selection is better too .... but yes, it's digital.

Why streaming?

Every streaming gaming console that has released so far has failed.

People keep trying because it's gonna happen sooner or later.

MS is flopping on the Xbox. Even the Switch is about to overtake it. lol. Though they are doing great in the Windows division.

Never said Sony and Nintendo were flopping.

Streaming is the future of all consoles and very likely to even have a space in PC gaming as well. Google is getting in early, they'll absorb the losses for a few years while they get established and then they'll be a real threat to Xbox Live and PSN because all three will be marking their territory in the future "games as a service" market by then.

Because they came in too early, besides PSN is just a new name for Onlive (GaiKai).

I once thought that streaming would never work because of latency issues but given the progress of higher internet speeds and availability to them over the last few years. It's only a matter of time before the casual market (by far the largest section of the console consumer base) has easy access to the bandwidth needed, which will increase the user base to a point where it is financially viable to support properly.

Always remember to primary console argument, "it's easy" and that is why it is the future for consoles.

From my view point as a PC gamer, "screw streaming I want the hardware in my house".

Hell no. Google is true cancer of gaming. It's bad enough Google let's any scam company put games and apps on their store and let's malicious code in the ads redirect browsers to the Play store. And, not that I've played into that fury over "microtransaction this" and "microtransaction that", but most that free to play bullshit they have monetizes in the way most the gaming community treats as an affront to the gaming community.

The lord said that digital only IS the future. You're witnessing a blessing right before your eyes.

Streaming is the future of console gaming. As console hardware becomes comparatively weaker each generation compared to PC, it doesn't make sense to release dedicated console hardware anymore. Manufacturing a decent console is just too expensive. The only way to come out with a financially competitive offering is to cut corners, but then you get potatoes like the PS4 and X1.

I don't think I could ever bring myself to support a Google gaming console knowing how they treat their content creators on YouTube, how they spy on their users, how they censor information, how they treat their own staff, and many more corrupt things. Even if this console happened to have some of the best exclusives out there. Lol I could actually imagine them demonitizing game developers whos games aren't "ad friendly".

And with that one word, I instantly have zero interest in this.

The console itself is flopping and Sony and just now Nintendo are clearly dominating. Even the Xbox is having trouble. I highly doubt Google is going to do that well unless they have a cheap console or something.

Everything from better onlines subscription services, backwards compat, more powerful hardware with XBX and list goes on and on.

Moreover, as a console only player I get to play most of the PC games sooner rather than later. We got Elite Dangerous years before you, we get to play pubg now rather than later, we get better mod support with fallout 4 and skyrim, tommorrow i get to play Starpoint Gemini Warlords, I'll be playing State of Decay 2 and Sea of thieves very soon. Before PC extremist chime in, yes i know, your the master race and you guys set the bar /cheers. However, if your in my shoes and prefers to game on consoles for whatever reason, the the XB family is the way to go and its a healthy and growing community.

I've owned and sold every generation of PS consoles from 1 to 4. The 1st and 2nd gens were great. However, XB came in and stole the show. The 3rd and 4th gen of PS were nothing more than Sony trying to be more like MS. As far as it goes PS is like imitation crab meat to XB being the real deal king crab legs. Sure, you can make some really good imitation crab salad with it but its not better than 2 pounds of the real deal with butter and lemon.

Gamegle - soon followed by Gamazon or whatever. I guess its inevitable that some kind of streaming service will arrive, I just don't think it'll have the appeal that traditional gaming devices have for many (at least not for a fair while). Saying that it could be good for retro gaming maybe, I think, perhaps, etc.

I don't want to stream games, damn it.

Thing is, I'm mostly a Nintendo fan. The PS4 is just my secondary console. It was cheaper and Sony usually has the exclusives I like (Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy being big ones). To be honest, I was shocked they announced FFXV for the Xbox One. Seems like a waste of resources. I also liked Bloodborne, Don't Starve: Together, and Knack which weren't on the Xbox One. I also played Dynasty Warriors and The Witcher 3. My brothers are getting the best out of it though since they're Sony fans.

You might have a point for the Xbox, but their games don't appeal to me. It's a lot of multiplats I can get on the PS4 with NO exclusives that I like. I at least like a few PS4 exclusives for it to be a secondary console.

@luxuryheart: How can you be objective with sales if you dont even know what xbox sales are, since they dont release them? You claim it's "flopping," there are many indications that its not. However, without sales numbers its hard to come to the conclusion that it is. As for Nintendo, they are simply in a league of their own and really are not a direct competitor to XB like PS4. I may get one someday just Zelda, but nothing else appeals.

You know by cows logic the greatest gaming platform of all time should be an android phone. It has the most exclusives. Although, I can see how you're inclined to think XB is flopping. You are posting within the releam of the pioneers of the XB hate club. You know it's something like this: if your a fan of CNN your probably anti-Trump or if your a fan of Fox you probably pro-Trump. I could go on point by point with even more facts as to why XB is top dog in the console world but its clear the truth would fall on deaf ears at best or simply be casting pearls before the swinge at worst. Gaming through streaming? No thanks. I can't find any good use for it except during international flights on many airlines.
